I’m on my way to Jackie’s apartment. For some reason my car just started drifting there. I can’t stop thinking about her and how my fortune is rising because this angelic creature has entered my life once again. I’ve always had a thing for her, like she could be the one girl who opens my eyes to monogamy. I could be with her forever and never look back. Sure, my life’s been interesting. I’ve had different girlfriends and all that, but Jackie is a true catch. And, she’s on top of her game right now. The timing seems to be right, so maybe this could happen; we’ll fall in love and that'll be it. At least, that’s what I’ve determined should happen. And I’m definitely going to get my way with her. I have to. In fact, I’d like to have my way with her tonight. Yeah, I just got this point of wanting to settle down right here, talking to you. But like when you find your perfect naughty angel, like Jackie is for me, even an alpha bad boy who fucks everything with a pussy that looks his way ... totally starts looking for just the one.

As I pull up to her building, I realize the lights in her apartment are on and that’s just the thing I need. I want to surprise her. I want to see the look on her face when she sees me. Tonight my goal is to make her realize that we can have something special. I’m not just a hunky piece of meat. I have feelings and true emotion for her. I could give her everything and adore her the way she deserves. Yeah, tonight I’ve got to start locking things down otherwise she’ll slip away and there’s just only one girl like Jackie.

As the elevator opens to her apartment, I do not see what I was expecting. In fact, I’m surprised by what I see. There’s another guy there. Fuck. Maybe I should’ve called first . . . But, now that I’m here I’ve gotta win this thing over. I should’ve known Jackie would have other prospects. I’m definitely not the only guy who sees how exquisite she is. But does he see past her great body, and into the depth of her soul like I do? That I don’t know. And, if he’s just some player who’s gonna hurt her, then I have to find out, and I have to be the one that takes her to the finish line.

The fact that he’s here will not deter me. Maybe it’s a good thing so I can see if he’s up to no good, or if he’s an honest dude.

I’m here to see Jackie and to blow off some steam and that is what I'll do. I don’t care if there’s another guy here. He’s probably got nothing on me anyways. I’ve known Jackie forever. And, I know she’s got a weakness for me.

"Hey, I just wanted to stop and see you."

"Hi, um yeah. Come on in. Xavier this is Marcus. Marcus this is Xavier."

"Hey man," I say.

"Hi." He looks slightly annoyed that I seem to have interrupted something, but then he gets up to shake my hand and asks Jackie if she minds that he make us some drinks.

"Of course not Marcus, that would be great. What do you think? Martinis? Wine? Beer?"

"I’ll have a martini if you’re making them. Dry, no olives. Thanks."

"Sure thing."

We are standing around the little bar she has set up in her place. It’s nice . . . All modern and stuff. There are mirrors everywhere, reflecting our faces in their surface, making me see the awkwardness of this situation. Hopefully I haven’t intruded too much. But I do plan on staying. He can leave. But I will stay. After knowing what Jackie and I have, this is a guarantee.

I sit at the all-white, metal barstool and Jackie joins me. It’s nice just being here, next to her. Coming over, I just wanted to see her. That alone, I knew, would help me de-stress. I’ve missed her. Jackie looks so hot tonight in her strapless, black cocktail dress. She always looks good, but beyond that she is . . . stunning. And now that I’ve got her within my reach, I am never letting go. She is a prize too precious to lose. I will do anything to stay with her.

"So," I say somewhat jokingly. "How do you guys know each other?" I’ve got to size up this situation, and this guy, Marcus, is probably doing the same to me.

"We work together," Jackie says. She looks at Marcus and I’m wondering how deep their connection goes.

"Marcus, just so you know, Xavier is the enemy." She laughs now, that bright, charming laugh. "He’s part of the opposing counsel on the Damian Cain case."

"Oh, a prosecuting attorney," Marcus says with ease. "Well, I apologize in advance . . . for winning." His eyes darken on me and I can tell he’s also talking about Jackie, but she handles it well.

"Come on guys! Let’s have fun, together!"

I smile and Marcus hands me my martini. I look at him and we both acknowledge what’s about to happen here. It doesn’t seem like he’s going anywhere, so I guess this is going to be it . . . All of us together, one big happy family. I smirk to think of it.

"You know, Jackie and I have known each other since college?" I say to him, trying to stir the pot.

"Hmmm, is that right?" He acts unaffected. "Well, I’m her newest recruit. And, that means we are together all day. Working on this case has just made us pull the longest hours. Hasn’t it Jackie? Don’t we just pull the longest hours?"

Jackie can see that there’s some competition here, but we’re just sizing each other up, as guys do. Trying to see who will be on top, I guess you could say. But the way he said that makes me realize there is definitely something going on between them. It’s something she’s had with me as well, so I guess I’m either going to have to beat him or join him in our pursuit of Jackie. I’m not concerned as long as I can have her. All that matters is having Jackie. Whatever obstacles there are, I will just have to hurdle them.

"Come on guys. Let’s all get along," she says calmly to us. "Are we just gonna stand around here all night talking, or will it become more . . . interesting?"

What’s most interesting of all, you know already because you’re probably switching to reading this with one hand. Yeah, maybe sharing wouldn’t be such a bad thing at all. We’re all adults here...
