Electric Chaos (Controlled Chaos Book 1) by Robin R Edwards (1)

Chapter 5

Katy

I wipe the tears from my face. I don’t know why I keep doing this to myself. I know I can’t have him, and yet every time I see him with another girl I want to claw their eyes out. I have dated other guys, but none compare to him and I can’t bring myself to stop comparing each one to Kellan. Which dooms my relationship before it ever gets going.

I know I need to break it off with Colt, but I can’t bring myself to admit failure. I really wanted it to work with him. Yes, my heart belongs to someone else, but I really did try to make it work. I had hoped deep down that I could love someone else just as much, however I’m beginning to believe I can’t.

The next day I receive a text from Colt, apologizing for standing me up. I don’t

answer back. I know that might seem childish of me, but what kind of boyfriend doesn’t bother to cal and cancel a date instead of standing you up? Not a very good one. That’s what kind!

I am finishing up with my last client when the doorbell chimes. Without pulling my head up from pinning the last bit of her dress I say, “sorry but we’re closed.”

When I don’t get a response answer or hear the chime, I stick my last pin in and turn around. Colt is standing about two feet away and he’s just staring at me.

I don’t say anything to him but turn back to my client. “Your dress wil be ready in two days. I wil give you a cal as soon as it’s done. Be very careful when you go to change so you don’t stick yourself with one of the pins.”

When my client has disappeared into one of the dressing rooms, I usher Colt toward my office. Once inside, I turn to him. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m sorry about last night.

Something came up and I didn’t even think to call and let you know.”

Raising a brow at his words, I say, “are you freaking serious right now? You didn’t think to call and let your girlfriend know that something came up and you couldn’t make our date. Not to mention I called and texted you.” I pul in a breath, then continue, “I think you need to leave.”

When I turn to open the office door, Colt grabs my arm. “Wait! There is something else.”

Turning back around to face him, I say,

“What?”

He drops down to one knee in front of me and pul s out a ring box. I look from him to the ring and back to him.

“Katy, this is what came up last night.

The jeweler called when I was on my way to your house. Katy, will you marry me?”

I don’t answer him right away. What the hel ? Can I marry this man? Can I spend the rest of my life with this man? I mean, I do have feelings for this man. I don’t love him and, yet I could possibly grow to love him.

I look from him to the ring back to him before licking my dry lips, and squeak out,

“yes.”

I watch as he slides the ring on my finger but I can’t help but think what in the hel did I just do?

It has been a month since I agreed to marry Colt. I stil haven’t told Kel an yet. I don’t know how to tel him. He is going to be so pissed that I said yes. He has been on tour and I just didn’t want to tell him over the phone or by text. The band is coming in today to pick up some more of their outfits.

They have a photoshoot tomorrow and want the clothes for that.

I can’t get the feeling out of my stomach that I am making a huge mistake. Every time I think about it, I get sick to my

stomach. Usual y I listen to my gut, but I am pushing it aside, since I think a lot of it has to do with me tel ing Kel an. I honestly don’t know how he is going to react to the news but I do know it won’t be good.

When the back-door swings open, I nearly jump out of my skin. My shop is closed today since it is Sunday, but I let Kellan know the back door was open.

Getting myself together, I go to greet the guys.

“Hey, Katy.” They all say at the same time.

“Hey guys.”

When Kel an reaches me, I lean in and give him a hug. I breathe in deep, taking in the smell of him and soaking up his warmth.

When I pul away, and look into his eyes, when he raises a brow at me, I know he can tell something is up.

“You guys go ahead. I’l catch up in a minute.” He says before taking my hand and leading me back into my office.

“Spil .”

I start to pace, “listen, I know you are going to be pissed but I really need to tell you that…” I take a deep breath, telling myself to pull up my big girl panties, and just spit it out, “I…um…Colt asked me to marry him and I said yes.”

I stop and look at him. Holy shit! I can’t believe I just blurted that out at him like that. I had this plan in my head and it sure wasn’t blurting it out.

There is nothing but silence, I can’t even hear him breathing.
