Chapter 20
Katy
The guys have been home for a week now. I’m lying in bed and Kel an is wrapped around me. When a soft kiss lands on my neck, I know he’s awake.
“Babe, I need to ask you something?”
“Ok.”
“The award show is two weeks away, and I want you to go with me.”
I turn and look at him.
“What?”
“I want you to go with me.”
“I don’t have anything to wear, and I don’t know how to act.”
“You can make your dress and just be yourself.”
“Ok,” I whisper.
When I get to my shop, I go straight to my office. I pull out my sketch pad and begin to sketch out dresses.
When I hear a commotion, I look at the clock. I have been in here for over three hours. I stand and go to see what the issue is.
There’s a dark-haired woman yel ing at Monica. I walk over, “I’m sorry, I’m Katy, I own this shop. What seems to be the problem?”
The woman lets out a huff, “You don’t know me, but I know you. I am going to give you a little piece of advice, Kellan is mine. He always has been and always wil be. Once he is done with you, he wil come back to me and oh, he wil get tired of you, just like all the others.”
I just stare at this woman. I don’t know who she is, but I can tel you she wil not run me off. I have known Kel an a hel of a lot
longer than she has, and I know him better than she ever will.
“Look, thanks for the advice but I don’t need it. My relationship with Kel an is none of your or anyone else’s business.
Now, I am going to ask you to leave my store and not come back, unless you are purchasing something.”
She looks around my shop then states,
“thanks but no thanks. This store carries nothing I need or want. I don’t wear trash.”
Then she turns and walks out.
I want to scream at her, slap and punch her.
My store does not carry trash. I wil not let someone like that, get me upset and do something stupid.
I turn and catch everyone in the shop staring at me. My face heats, but I straighten my back and walk back to my office.
When I step inside, my phone is
ringing, Hearing the ringtone I have set for Kellan, I grab it, and answer, “Hey”
“Hey babe, what’s wrong?”
“How do you know something is
wrong?”
“I can hear it in your tone, when you said Hey.”
“It’s nothing really, just an unhappy customer, and let’s just say, she made sure everyone in my shop knew she was
unhappy.”
“So, you ready for the awards show?”
I look down at my sketch pad, and just shake my head. I have several ideas for a dress, but one real y stands out at me. So, I think I will go with that one.
I tell him about my dress design, he assures me that I wil look great in whatever I decide to wear.
When we hang up, I can’t help it, I get on my laptop and search any and al photos of Controlled Chaos. I have to see if I can find any pictures of Kellan and that girl. While it’s searching, I go back to designing my dress.
A little while later, there’s a knock on my door, looking up from my sketches I answer, “come in.”
Monica is standing there. “Hey, someone is here to see you. Do you want me to send them back here or you want to come up front?”
“Just send them back here.” I have already had one show out in the open today, I don’t want another one.
I close my sketch book and when the door opens, Colt is standing there.
“Hey Katy, can we talk?”
“There is nothing to talk about.”
“I want to explain and apologize.”
“You already tried that, remember.
You can’t explain what is plain to see. I get it, you where cheating on me and that’s that. I am done with this relationship. I should have broken it off way before I did.
I’m sorry I let it continue when I knew it wasn’t working.”
“Please don’t say that. We can make this work.”
“Look, Colt. This is done. It was done a long time ago. We are not getting back together, not now not ever. Now, it’s just best you leave.”
I watch as Colt turns and leaves. I really hope he just leaves me alone and moves on with whoever he was cheating on me with.
I grab my sketch pad, the material I want to use and head home.
I look at myself in the mirror, tonight is the awards show. I apply my lipstick, then step back. I’m wearing a long silver dress, it’s cut low in the front, coming to a point, just above my navel. It has sequins all over
it, so it sparkles whichever way I move. I mean, I had to have some girly in it somewhere. I love the feel of the silk material on my skin. My hair has a matching clip in it, pulling one side back away from my face, while the rest hangs in curls down my back. I had a diamond necklace, earrings and bracelet before taking a deep breath, and opening the door.
Kellan is standing in the bedroom, fixing his tie. When his eyes meet mine in the mirror, he swings around and stares at me.
“Holy shit babe, you look amazing.”
My smile spreads across my face. When I reach him, he kisses my head.
“You ready?”
“I guess.”
The guys look a little on edge. Not only are they performing tonight but they are nominated for two different awards. I know
they will do great, and if they win the awards, that wil make their year.
The highlight of the night was when Controlled Chaos won one of the awards. I have no idea which one, which sounds awful but I can’t help it. They were so excited and so much was happening that my mind couldn’t keep up.
When my phone vibrates, I pul it from my clutch. It’s Colt. I haven’t spoken to him since that day in my shop, but he continues to send me flowers and call. I silence my phone and replace it in my clutch.
The next week flies by. I am so busy at work that I don’t have a lot of spare time.
I’m glad that the crap with that woman, didn’t mess with my business. I’m in my office working on sketches for a client when Carol pokes her head in.
“Hey Katy, sorry to bother you but you have someone here to see you.”
I nod, then walking into the front of my shop. I stop when I see Colt standing there.
He has his hands in the pockets of his slacks. He looks the same, not a strand of blonde hair out of place, his shirt is perfectly tailored and pressed. I don’t know why I ever thought a marriage between us would work.
“What do you want?”
“You haven’t been answering my
calls.”
“Really.” I say sarcastically. “We broke up. I have nothing left to say to you.”
I turn to walk away. When he grabs my arm.
I jerk it away. “Don’t touch me.”
“Katy. Please. Can we talk?”
“I told you, I don’t want to hear it. Now, leave my shop and leave me alone.”
“So, you’re with him now?” He sneers the word him.
“That is none of your business.”
He hands me a magazine that has a picture of me and Kel an on the front. It’s from the night of the awards.
“I always knew you had a thing for him.” He laughs, “should have known I couldn’t compete with him.”
My anger is rising. “If that no good, low life son of a bitch is the person you want to be with, what does that make you? He is nothing but a piece of shit. I can’t believe you actually want someone like that, when you could have someone like me. He wil toss you to the curb when some other hot piece of ass shows interest.”
And that’s it, I snap.
“You son of a bitch!” I get right in his face. “I don’t give a damn about what you say about me but don’t you ever talk about Kellan like that. He has and always wil be more important to me than you could ever imagine to be and he is more of a man than you could ever be. Why would I want someone like him when I could have
someone like you?” I can’t help the sarcasm coming from me now. “You think you are better than him? From where I stand, you are worse than him. He doesn’t hide who he is and you do. However, you’re not very good at that either because you actually got caught cheating. Did you forget that? Now, you need to get the hell out of my shop and don’t come back.”
Without another word, I turn on my heel and go back to my office. My anger is boiling over and I can’t seem to get it under control. Who the hell does he think he is? I really want to punch him in the face or throat, it doesn’t matter, I would be happy with either, or both. When my office door opens, I whirl around. Kel an is standing there. I march over to him, fist my hand in his shirt and pull him to me. I kiss him, long and hard.
