Electric Chaos (Controlled Chaos Book 1) by Robin R Edwards (11)

Chapter 22

Kellan

I am stepping foot inside my house for the first time in over a month. I have never wanted to be home as much as I do right now. I look down at the time, I have about an hour before Katy shows up. It’s been over three weeks since I last saw her, and since we are only home for a week, I want to spend as much of my time with her as I can.

I have just finished getting dressed when there is a knock on my door. When I pull it open, it’s not Katy, it’s Maddox. He looks horrible, defeated and maybe drunk.

“What’s up?” I look him up and down. “Are you drunk?”

“No.”

“You’re lying.”

“No, I’m not.”

“Then your high.”

“Nope.” He pops the p.

I frown at him. “Come in.”

He walks to the couch, and flops

down. I don’t have time to ask him again what’s wrong because the door opens. We both turn and see Katy.

“Hey guys, what’s going on?”

I hold my arm out to her. She steps into my side, leaning up on tip toe to place a kiss on my lips. Sliding her lips toward my ear, she whispers, “what’s real y going on?”

“I don’t know, he just got here.”

She slowly walks over to Maddox and takes a seat on the couch beside him. She takes his hand in hers, and asks, “Mad, what’s going on?”

He takes a breath, then answers, “Suzanne is threating to take Axel from me. She said,”

he makes air quotes, “I’m bad for him.”

I watch as Maddox puts his hand into his pocket and pulls out a pil , pops it into his mouth and swal ows, before I can even say hel no.

Suzanne does this at least once a month to Maddox. If he doesn’t do what she wants, then she threatens to take Axel. Axel is the only thing that keeps Maddox somewhat sane.

Katy gets this look on her face, it’s one between, pissed and frustrated. I know she is about to lay into Maddox and I want to stop her and let you go at the same time.

“Mad, I love you, so I am going to tell you this, it might piss you off, but it needs to be said. Popping pil s isn’t going to change her mind, or help the situation any.”

He turns toward her, “Neither is the other drugs you do or the drinking. If you want Axel, then you need to get clean and stay that way.”

“You want me to stop everything?”

“What’s more important, Axel or the drugs? You don’t have to stop drinking but cut back on it and you must stop the drugs.

We can help you, if you want.”

She looks to me.

“Maddox, listen. We have been

friends damn near our whole life. I have been watching you do this to yourself for the last several years. It’s gotten bad since Ryker died.” I walk over and sit down on his other side. “I know it was harder on you when he died, but you have to stop the drugs. If you don’t, you’re going to end up just like Ryker and leave Axel without a dad.

I know that’s not what you want.”

I watch as Maddox stands, “I’l think about it” is all he says before he turns and heads toward the door. Turning back toward me, he says, “don’t let her go,” then he is gone.

The next day, me and Katy do some shopping. We grab al kinds of food, games and a bunch of shit we don’t need.

We make a stop at Katy’s house on the way back to my place. I am standing in her living room, watching her fly around her house.

“Babe, what are you doing?”

“Looking for something.”

“Wel , I get that, but what? I’l help you.”

“No, you won’t.”

There’s a knock on her door. “Babe, want me to get that?”

“No, I got it.” She says as she runs to the door. I step up behind her as she opens it.

Laughing she says, “Can I help you?”

However as soon as she sees the woman standing there, all laughter leaves her, and I know she knows who this woman is.

“How did you find out where I live?”

“It’s not as hard as you might think.

Hey Kel an.” The woman says in what I think is supposed to be a sexy voice.

“Um…Do I know you?”

The flash of anger in her eyes, tel s me I should know who she is, but for the life of me I have no idea who she is.

“Yeah, you know me. We spent the

night together when you were in Vegas.”

The woman takes a deep breath, then hands me a paper.

I’m still trying to place her but I take the paper and look down at it. “What is this?”

“It’s a pregnancy test from the doctor and I’m pregnant and you’re the father.”

I hear Katy draw in a breath.

Oh hel no. This woman is not going to blame me for her unborn child. I wil have every DNA test done to prove I am not the father of this baby.

I watch the woman turn and leave with a smile on her face. I look down at Katy. She is sheet white. “Babe.”

I take a hold of her arm and lead her to the couch, “Katy, listen to me, I will fix this.”

I jump when she yells, “that bitch!”

She stands and starts pacing. “How dare her follow me to my house and then tell us that you’re the father of her unborn kid. She does know that women do this to people every day and their proved to be liars.”

She stops pacing right in front of me, pointing to the door, she says, “Do you know that woman?”

“Listen, I’m not going to lie to you.

When I was drinking a lot, I did sleep with a lot of women. I used protection just like I told you, but I honestly can’t remember all the women, so I could have slept with her.”

“Look, that same woman came into

my shop about a month ago, and said that

you were hers and that you would come back to her when you are done with me.”

“What the hel !” This woman came

into Katy’s shop and she didn’t tell me.

“Katy, why didn’t you tel me about that?”

“I told you about her coming in, I just told you she was an unhappy customer, not that she was yelling about you.”

I think about that for a minute and I am pretty sure that she never told me about some woman coming into her shop telling her I was hers and I would leave her.

However, I do remember her saying something about an unhappy customer.

“Ok, so in the morning I will contact my attorney and get her on this issue.”

“Good. That’s probably the best thing you could do.”

I straighten and look at her, “Katy, this isn’t going to mess up our relationship, is it?”

She walks over to me and climbs into my lap. “Look, I love you and have for a long

time. You told me that people wil make up stuff all the time and that I should talk to you about it first. Well, I talked to you and if she is telling the truth and the baby is yours, I will be upset but I will still be here to help you take care of the baby. If it’s not yours then I will kick her ass all the way to Texas.”

I can’t help it, I start to laugh. I place a kiss on the top of her head, then grab my phone.

Moving Katy to the side, I hit the number to my buddy Bradley.

“Hey, I need you to do me a favor.” I say when he answers the phone.

“Yeah, what’s that?”

“Some woman showed up today and

said I was the father to her unborn baby. I need to you find out everything you can about this woman. I don’t know her name, but I can give you a description of what she looks like and she was at Katy’s shop, so she may have video of her.”

“Ok, how do you know she is

pregnant and how extensive do you need this report?”

“She gave me a paper from her

doctor, and anything you can find on her, oh and while you’re at that, search a Colt Jameson for me too.”

“Ok, look on that paper and see if it has her name on it?”

I grab the paper from the couch, and look at it, it has her last name on it. “It only has her last name on it.”

“Ok, what is it?”

“It says Brown.”

“Does it have the doctors name or the office name on it?”

“It says Dr. Mason at Mason’s

OBGYN.”

“Alright, I’ll be in touch.”

Katy grabs her stuff and we head back to my house. She’s quiet on the ride over and I want to know what’s going on in her head.

“Katy, you want to talk about it?”

“What’s there to talk about. This bitch is trying to take the one thing, other than you that I have wanted for forever, away from me. The fact that I wanted to be the one to have your babies and now she may be the first, that just…I have no words for how that makes me feel.”

Wel , I real y don’t have anything to say about that, so I just stay quiet. When we reach my house, I grab her bag and we go inside.

Once inside, Katy goes straight to my room to lay down. I know she went in there to cry and release some stress, now that her mad has worn off.

A little while later, I knock lightly on the door. When there’s no answer, I open it.

Katy is laying on my bed asleep. She looks good; right in my bed. She looks like a child,

with her hand under her cheek, and her hair spread out over the pil ow. The closer I get to her, I can see that her eyes are puffy, her nose is red and I know I was right. She had been crying.

I climb in behind her and pull her to me. I feel her bodies tension ease, just a little. Then it’s as if her body knows mine, once she snug against me, I feel the rest of her tension slowly disappear. I kiss her head and whisper, “I’ve got you babe, it’s going to be ok.” I want her to trust me enough as her other half, not just her best friend. I wish I could make this al go away but I can’t, not just yet.

I wake to the feeling that someone is watching me. I open my eyes and meet Katy’s. She’s smiling. “What?”

“You’re so beautiful.” She runs her hand down my cheek.

Catching her hand, I bring it to my lips, “No, babe. You’re the beautiful one.”

She bends and kisses me. I suck on her lip, then nip it. When she pulls back, I can see the passion in her eyes.

“Feeling better this morning?”

“A little.”

“I want to talk to you about

something.”

“Ok, I’m listening.”

I sit up in the bed and prop my back against the head board.

“Do you think Colt might be behind this woman?”

Katy just blinks at me. “Well, I didn’t think about that. What would he get out of having some woman come in and say she is pregnant?”

“Wel for one, he might think you would leave me, if I got someone else pregnant.”

I watch as different emotions cross her face.

“If he is, I’m going to kil him.” She states.

“You can’t kil him. You wouldn’t do wel in jail.”

She chuckles, “your probably right.”

She is so damn beautiful. I don’t know how I got so damn lucky. Placing my hand behind her head, I pull her down to me.

Now, she is laying on top of me, and we are face to face.

“Kel an.”

“Yeah, babe.”

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”

The next few days we spend our time either in bed or watching television. I haven’t heard anything from my friend Bradley.

I’m getting ready to go back out on tour and don’t really want to leave Katy. I stil haven’t told her about Bradley and I need to before I leave.

I send her a text and ask her to meet me at my house, when she is done at work. While

I wait, I work on my song that’s for her. I can’t seem to get the lyrics right, but the melody is perfect.

When she final y arrives, it’s nearly nine. I softly kiss her cheek. She frowns at me.

“What’s going on, Kel an?”

“I need to tel you something.”

“Ok.” She says warily.

“When that woman showed up at

your house, you told me that she had showed up at your shop as well, right?”

“Yeah.”

“OK. Wel I started to think that maybe Colt was involved in this somehow.

So, I called my friend Bradley, who is in the private investigation field and asked him to run a check on Ms. Brown and Colt.”

“How did you get her name? Neither time she confronted me did she give me her name.”

“Her last name was on the paperwork she gave me.”

“Oh, ok.”

The look of relief that crosses her face confuses me. I’m not sure why she looks relieved or what she thought I was going to say, but now I want to know.

“Katy.”

“Huh.”

“What did you think I was going to say?”

Now, she looks ashamed and embarrassed.

“I… wel I….” I stare at her, she is looking down at the floor.

“Ok, anyway I say this, it’s going to come out bad.” She finally looks at me. “The way you said, you needed to tel me something and then you only kissed me on my cheek when I got here, I took it as something bad and assumed the worse. I thought you were going to say you were

breaking up with me until al this crap was over or maybe you cheated on me, or that I’m not what you wanted after al .

I feel like she slapped me. Never did I think she would assume that. I told her how much I love her. Taking her hand, I bring her to the couch.

“Katy, listen to me. I love you. I don’t want anyone but you, haven’t for a long time. When I tell you that, I mean it. Now, that I have you, I’m not letting you go. Do you understand that?”

She places her hand on my cheek. “Kel an, I understand that, and I love you too. I don’t like thinking stuff like that, but I know you get lonely when you’re on tour and there are plenty of wil ing girls for you to pick from. It’s still hard for me to believe you want me.”

“Those girls do nothing for me. Do you know why?” I ask her. She shakes her head no. “Because there not you.”

A tear slides down her cheek. She leans in and kisses me. Leaving her forehead pressed to mine. When she pulls back, I look down at her, “I am so sorry.”

“Babe, I get why you would jump to that conclusion, but I want you to trust me, ok?”

She nods her head yes. This time, I lean in and kiss her.

“Have you heard anything from your friend?”

“Unfortunately, not, but I will let you know when I do.”

“Ok.”
