Five Months Later

“Chris?” I called out as I walked into the house.

“Yeah?” he asked a bit panicked as he jumped up from the couch.

I’d left work early and had wanted to surprise him with something. He had the day off and though he didn’t know it yet, I worked it out for him to have the next three off as well.

“Pack some clothes,” I said with a smile to set him at ease. I didn’t want him to think that he needed to pack a bag because for some reason we needed to flee. I mean, come on, with the club that wasn’t out of the realm of possibilities.

“What?”

“We’re going somewhere, for the weekend.”

“Really?” His eyes lit up with excitement and I pulled him into me then kissed him.

He swayed the tiniest bit when I pulled away and I seriously couldn’t get enough of how I affected him. It made me feel so many things, but mostly it made me feel like a damn god. Yeah, just a simple thing like knowing my kiss, my touch, my breath on the back of his neck could make him weak brought the Neanderthal out in me. And that didn’t go one way. He affected me just the same.

“Yep,” I said keeping it simple.

The hard part was coming and I just had to go about it the right way.

See, though Chris hadn’t ever come right out and said it, I knew he wasn’t a bike person. No, he was the opposite actually. I had a feeling that he might be terrified of being on one. Which kind of sucked because I really wanted to go for a ride with his arms wrapped around me. But I hadn’t pushed it because there was always this small bite behind his words when he talked about motorcycles and such.

However, that shit was about to change. We were going on a trip and he was going to ride on the back of my bike. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. I wasn’t going to let him freak out and ruin this. I hoped. I mean, I didn’t really have an actual plan as for how to coax him onto the back of my bike. I just sort of…hoped he wouldn’t put up much of a fight.

I did have one card to play. It was something I was going to tell him anyway but if I used it strategically then it could help me win.

“Okay,” he said heading for the stairs. “Just need to get gas before we head out of town. I didn’t feel like stopping last night.”

“We don’t need to get gas,” I said then waited for it.

His body froze and his spine went ramrod straight.

“And why not?” he asked slowly turning to face me again.

“Because we’re taking my bike,” I said with a proud smile.

“No,” he said drawing out the O in shock and protest.

“Yes.” I nodded enthusiastically hoping to set him at ease.

“Um, no.”

I took wide steps until I had my arms around him again.

“We’re going to see Ingram and Chry.” There, that should have done the job.

“Okay, then we’ll take my car.”

“Chris,” I said softly. “Trust me.” I wasn’t asking. And maybe I wasn’t even demanding. It was more that I was reminding him that he did and that he needed to hold onto that.

“Fine,” he said but it felt far from fine. “Let’s go.” He started walking toward the back door, leaving me standing there scratching my head as to what was going on.

He was out the door and down the stairs before I snapped to it and followed him out and down the beach.

Oh shit.

I had a pretty good idea of where this was going to go.

“Pants off,” he demanded as he stripped out of his shirt and flip-flops, leaving him in his loose lounge shorts.

“Dude, there are too many people around,” I said looking at the half-crowded beach.

“Your boxer-briefs cover more than what that guy’s wearing, you’ll be fine. Now. Strip.”

I turned in the direction he was looking to see an old man wearing something that covered about as much as a pair of tighty-whities would.

“I’m not going in there.”

“Then I’m not getting on the back of your bike.”

Fuck! I should have seen how this would have backfired on me.

“I’m right here with you,” he whispered, his hand sliding into mine.

I blew out a long breath, squeezed his hand, then stripped down.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this,” I said but I could see how it was only fair.

We walked out slowly, the water covering my feet, then my ankles. Then further still, until my hips were getting hit by the incoming waves. Finally, I was out far enough that I felt like I had to close my eyes.

“Hold your breath,” Chris said cutting through my panic.

Without thinking, I did as he instructed. Then he was pulling me under, his body wrapping around mine. I held on tight and definitely couldn’t say that I liked it, not even a little. But a part of me knew that I was safe, that Chris wouldn’t ever let anything happen to me.

Just as quickly as we had ducked under, we shot up to the surface.

“Okay,” he said smiling at me then gave me a quick kiss. “Let’s go.”

So we did. We showered, packed up my bike, then he climbed on only shaking slightly.

“Hold on tight, baby,” I said then took off.

I loved it. Having him behind me was like one of the best things in the world. It only took him a third of the drive to relax. I knew this wasn’t going to become a regular thing, but that was alright. I’d take what I could get, especially when it came to him.
