Shattered Hearts (Dragon Skulls Book 3) by Rose Briner (16)

Chapter Fifteen

Tigger

Some might think my favorite Summer outfits are the ones where she’s practically naked, leaving nothing to the imagination, but they’d be wrong.

My favorite is the leather number she has on tonight and the way it hugs her in all the right places.  Her nipple rings barely visible under the material.  But I see them.  I’ve had them between my lips, tugged on her sweet nipples.

   Great, now I’m hard.

Earlier when I asked her if she wanted to go out sometime, it was a spur of the moment decision.  I never intended to be so forward with her, but I can’t help it, she drives me absolutely crazy, and her attire wasn’t helping the situation.

As surprised as I was when I asked her out, it was nothing compared to the shock I experienced when she accepted.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t regret asking her, she just caught me off-guard when she agreed.

Honestly, as a man, I don’t think I’m good enough for her.  Its one thing that I allow her to see the darker side of me at night, it’s quite another to let her see the man I am as a person.

Sex I can do, no problem.  But relationships?  I don’t have the best track record.

I’ve dated women on and off over the years, but I gave up completely a year ago.

That was the day Kara chose to be with Dean instead of me.  I gave Kara everything I had to give.  I’ve told her things I’ve never told another woman.  I invited her into my bed with open arms and even offered her a place by my side.  She rejected me, and it tore me apart from the inside out.  It changed who I am as a person.  I don’t share parts of myself with anyone anymore, and I’ve been told more times than I can count that I’m an asshole and a heartless bastard.

Makes things so much easier for me.  I can’t afford to let anyone get too close to me.  I almost told Kara my big secret, one I’ve never told another soul.  A secret that Drag discovered on his own.

That has been my only salvation, my one saving grace, that my closely guarded secret stays that way and buried.  Imagine what would’ve happened to me if I had told her and she felt obligated to tell her old man, my friend, and Sergeant at Arms.  I might not be alive today if that had happened.

Now I have to be even more cautious.  Especially now since I’m not the only one with secrets.

Pulling up to the club tonight, I was ready for my Summer fix, but my fucking phone vibrating in my pocket ruined it for me.

She was ready for me, I could see it and feel it in the way she melted into my arms.  She’d missed me just as much as I’ve missed her, and the sad thing is I’ve been right across the hall from her the entire time, and she didn’t even know it.

So many times I almost knocked on her door and begged her to let me inside.  I damn near lost it and almost banged it down when she sent Ryan to tell me she couldn’t come to see me for a few days.  I knew the reason why, Ryan didn’t need to tell me, but I hated that she had to send her friend down to see me.  I hated seeing the judgment in the redhead’s eyes.  She’s judging me, I know her and Natalie think I’m not good enough for their friend.  Believe me, I want to be enough for her, but I know I’ll ever be enough for a woman like Summer.  So for now, I’ll just enjoy the ride.  When she finds out who I am, she’s going to kick me to the curb.

I was seconds away from feeling that sweet pussy of hers again when my fucking damn phone vibrating in my pocket ruined everything.  No one texts me unless it’s an emergency, all my brothers knew where I was going tonight, and Kara is in charge at the club.  I almost crushed my phone in my hand when I saw Kara’s name on the display telling me I had to come to The Dragon right away.  That must mean something bad happened.  As much as I wanted to finish with Summer before heading back to the hell hole, I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist having Summer more than once tonight.  With how hot and ready she was and how fucking horny I’ve been over the past two weeks, once wouldn’t have been enough for either of us.

I had to leave her behind, alone and horny to go back to a clubhouse packed full of my waiting brothers.  I know most of them won’t touch her, but there are still a few who don’t know I’ve staked my claim and might try to take advantage of her vulnerability.

The only consolation was giving her my cell number before I took off.  I just hope she doesn’t call or text me when she’s standing near me, or I might have a hard time explaining the coincidence of my phone going off at the same time she’s texting me with her phone.

Pulling up to The Dragon, everything appears to be quiet.  There’s still plenty of cars in the parking lot, the bouncers are still firmly planted in their designated spots, and there’s no one running and screaming from the inside of the club.

Everything looks fine until I pull around to the side of the club and spot the bikes parked in the garage.  There isn’t one or two there, but a bunch, meaning all the senior members are here right now.  This can’t be good.

I quickly park and dismount, punching in my code to unlock the side entrance door to the club.  I have a look around and don’t see anything out of the ordinary.  One of the girls is up on stage preparing to remove her tiny bikini, and there are girls all around giving lap dances.  I look over towards the bar and don’t see any of my brothers there, and immediately I know they are all in the back office.

I curse when I look around once more and don’t find them out here.  I step around the approaching strippers and stomp towards my back office.  I don’t bother knocking when I reach the door and slam it open against the wall.

What I find there, has all anger I felt about having to leave Summer behind in the club dying away.  Crouched in the corner of the room on the sofa is one of the girls and Kara is kneeling in front of her on the floor.  The girl has tears streaming down her face, and the dress she’s wearing is dangling in shreds from her body.  Kara turns her head and the concern I see there when her eyes meet mine confirms that something serious has happened.

I start to take a step in their direction, but Dean’s hand on my chest stops me.

“We don’t want to scare the girl, let’s step outside and chat,” he motions for the others to follow us and we all head back outside to where our bikes are parked.

“What the hell is going on?” I ask Dean when no one bothers to speak up.  I lean back against my bike in frustration.

“The girl claims someone tried to rape her.  She said she went outside to have a cigarette break and someone on a green Harley pulled up beside her and asked if she wanted a ride,” Dean steps away from us and runs his hand through his hair.  I know what he’s thinking, he thinks that could’ve been Kara that was attacked.

“She thought he was one of us,” Drag continues when Dean doesn’t elaborate.  “She didn’t hesitate when she walked up beside him, and he dismounted and tried to rape her.  When she screamed, and the bouncers started shouting, he took off,” Drag looks over at Dean in concern before turning back to face me and sighing deeply.

“Did she get a good look at him?”  Drag and Dean look over at Thunder before they look back over at me, all three of them wearing the same concerned expression.  “Well?  What the fuck?  How can I do anything if you guys won’t share what you know with me.”

“She said he had green eyes and sandy blonde hair.  Looked to be in his early thirties.  She said he was very handsome.  She mistook him for Horse,” Thunder crosses his arms over his chest and raises an eyebrow.

“I only know one biker who looks like Horse,” I straighten and crack my neck, anger filling me once more.  There’s only one person who we all know that looks like Horse, someone we haven’t seen in a while, a dangerous fucker who almost tore this entire club apart.  “Tell me this is a fucking joke.”

“I wish it were, brother,” Drag nods solemnly.  “ I truly wish it was a joke, but all the signs are pointing towards him.”

“If Lefty is back in town, we could have a real problem on our hands.  I’m going to pray this is just a coincidence and just some out of town fucker who was looking for some free pussy outside our strip club.  Besides, that’s not possible, Lefty has been in prison since ” I don’t continue after that.  Dean turns in my direction, and the murderous glint in his eyes has me eyeing him in concern.  If looks could kill, Lefty would be dead already.

“We’re not sure, but we can’t take that risk, if he was released from prison early or managed to escape and came straight here, he’s out for revenge, and all the women are in danger, but Kara more than anyone.  She’s the one who sold him out, after all, we can’t forget that.  The sooner we find out if that’s him, the better,” Thunder does not look pleased at all.  Anything that threatens our family, everyone takes seriously.  Lefty already got to Kara once, we can’t allow him to get his hands on any of our women again.

“Let’s go talk to the girl so she can confirm for sure if it was him or not.  I think I have a picture of him around here somewhere,” I pull my phone out and start to scroll through the photos.

“She won’t talk to us or let any of us examine her.  We need a medical professional to do it, and Mike is still out of town,” I can hear the question in Drag’s voice, and that has me looking up in his direction, my finger hesitating over my phone.

“You can’t be serious,” no one says anything or contradicts me, and even before I say it, I know that is exactly who they are referring to.  “You can’t expect me to agree to have her come here.  No way, over my dead body,” I shake my head no, but I know I’ve already been outvoted when the others refuse to look in my direction.

“The vote was unanimous, even if you vote no, the decision has already been made.  Should we call her or are you going to do it?” Drag wants to laugh, I can see it on his face.  If this weren’t such a serious matter, he would be laughing.

“You guys call her, I can’t. I gave her my number, and if I call her, I can’t promise she’ll come here when she finds out I’m the same man that was with her in the club tonight,” I shove my phone back in my pocket, all thoughts of locating a photo of Lefty now gone from my mind.  Now I have to worry about having Summer here at the club.

What if she decides she wants to learn how to strip?

What if she decides she would rather do that than be a nurse?

What if she asks me for a job as one of the strippers here in the club?

Fuck, I might die of a heart attack if she asks me that.

“Relax, everything will be fine,” Dean pats me on the back as we all make our way back inside.

“Easy for you to say, you’re married to Kara, and she has no desire to take her clothes off in public anymore, who knows what Summer might decide she wants to do,” I blow out a breath when we make it to the side door.

“Church tomorrow, at nine, everyone be there on time,” Drag announces before pushing the door open to the club and stepping inside.

I look behind me one last time to find Thunder with his phone glued to his ear and a smirk firmly planted on his face.  Leave it to Thunder to find humor in a situation like this.  Even in the face of possible complications for the club, he still finds time to give me a hard time.

God, this is going to be one hell of a long night.
