Chapter Five

Blair had done her best to be polite toward Larry throughout their dinner at Hacienda Del Sol, but his increasing sexual innuendos were making it harder and harder for her to remember that this was a man who her father looked at as a friend.

As they made their way out to the parking lot she had hoped he’d allow for a simple hug and thank you, but she could see by the look in his eyes that he wanted so much more.

The rumble of a familiar motorcycle engine distracted them both as she turned to see Chance pulling into the lot and skidding to a halt in front of where they stood.

“Chance?”

“Hey, kid. What the hell are you doing here?”

“Get on the bike, Blair.”

“What? Why?”

She wasn’t really sure why she was questioning him. Anything would be better than having to spend another minute with Larry. Still there was an unease in his eyes that she didn’t like.

“Get. On. The. Bike.”

When she didn’t move toward him he shouted at her, “Now!”

“Now wait just a minute, Chance. I don’t know what all this is about, but –.”

“Leave it alone, Larry. Back off.” He turned his attention back to Blair. “For the last God damn time, woman… Get on the damn bike!”

Startled by his behavior she did as he asked. She’d known Chance her whole life and he had never raised his voice to her except for the one time when she was twelve and she’d shaved his head when he’d fallen asleep after a week-long game of who count out prank the other.

She wrapped her hands around his waist, trying to ignore how good it felt to be snuggled up against him as he drove them away from the restaurant.

So many times had she dreamed of the day that he would come for her and take her away on his bike. Not for a friendly drive, but for some passionate tryst that neither of them could ignore.

Her thoughts only deepened her confusion. She had no idea what had angered him so, but she was sure that she shouldn’t be feeling the things that she was, especially not after sharing the night that she just had with Alex.

It had felt so good to be with him. He was gentle, strong, sweet and caring. Their night had been wonderful, but still she couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like with Chance. In so many ways she’d felt like he was the one that would be perfect for her.

The yin to her yang.

The sun to her moon.

The rainbow to her storm.

There was a roughness to Chance though that despite their many years of growing up together she’d never managed to break through. He was hard on the outside. Like an impenetrable fortress that he refused to let anyone in.

They drove for a long while before he finally pulled off the road into a small diner and motel business that sat in the middle of nowhere.

He didn’t say a word when he hopped off of the bike and went in to get a room. His increasing quietness was beginning to worry her, so when he returned outside and motioned for her to follow him she couldn’t stand the silence a moment longer.

“Chance? Is my dad –.”

For a brief moment his expression softened. “Your dad is fine. Just… come with me.”

“Chance, you know I’d go anywhere with you. But what’s the matter?”

“Please, Blair.”

“No. Not until you tell me what’s wrong. You drove into that parking lot like you were ready to kill someone.”

“We need to talk, and I really need a shower.”

She let out a sigh of defeat and went with him. When it came to Chance she never stood a chance in their arguments.

For ten minutes she paced the small motel room while she waited for him to finish showering. She had no idea what was happening, but Alex had texted her twice wanting to know where she was and if she was okay. She was touched by his concern and his sweetness, but her worry still went to Chance. She’d never seem him like that before. And it worried her to think what had caused such anger in him.

The water shut off and she suddenly became fidgety, though she wasn’t sure why. She nervously tucked her cell phone back in her pocket and took a few calming breaths.

The bathroom door opened and Chance stood there in the doorway. A torn and faded white towel was wrapped around his waist, showing her that same hard and tanned chest that she’d spent so many nights picturing.

He was never one to wear shorts, so seeing his long muscular legs was a bonus she hadn’t expected. His dark hair speckled all over his body, working its way down his chest to form an inviting arrow below the towel.

“Feel better?” she asked.

“No.”

His words were still tainted with anger.

“Chance what is it? What’s wrong?”

“You tell me.” He leaned against the door frame and crossed his arms.

“Look, this little guessing game is fun and all. But you’re clearly upset about something, and if you don’t tell me what it is, how will I be able to apologize for it?”

“Apologize you say… now that’s interesting.” He came in the room and walked around the bed to where she sat. “I wasn’t aware that little Miss Bossy Alexander apologized for anything.”

She loved Chance, and there wasn’t a thing in this world she wouldn’t do for him. But enough was enough and she was growing tired of his rudeness and the games.

“You know I don’t like it when you call me that.”

“Yeah well… I don’t like it when you do a lot of things either.”

She shook her head and stood up. “Whatever. Look, Chance… I don’t know what your problem is, but I don’t deserve –.”

“You fucked Alex!”

His words came out so sharp, so abruptly, that if they’d been his hand they would’ve left a deep and painful mark.

She was stunned.

“Cat got your tongue?”

“How did…”

“I know? How did I know?” he stepped closer to her until they stood mere inches apart. “I fucking saw you! That’s how!”

She still had no idea what to say.

What could she say?

What did he want her to say?

Then suddenly it hit her all the times she had been rejected by him, and she wondered why he was so angry about it. “Why are you acting like this?”

“Don’t go turning this around on me. You’re the one who –.”

“No, Chance! Why? You’ve been giving me the brush off for years now. I’ve done everything I could to get close to you, and you –.”

“You don’t think we’re close?”

“You know what I mean! And don’t change the subject. What right do you have being mad at me about Alex? You have shown me zero interest, despite my many attempts to get your attention.”

“Nuh uh. No!” he shook his head. “You don’t get to twist this around. I was trying to be your friend. The guy you grew up with.”

“You think I wanted you as a friend? All those times I tried to…” exasperated she threw her hands up in the air. “You know what, never mind. Apparently this is Chance’s world and there’s some sort of rule book that I’m not privy to.”

“You’re a fine one to talk. You’re the most spoiled one in our clan.” He shouted in argument.

“Funny. For being so spoiled I seem to have an awful hard time getting what I want.”

She turned and made her way for the door when she felt his hands grab her and spin her around. She screamed in shock as he pressed her body against the back of the door and covered her mouth with his, silencing any argument she may have had. His hard body loomed heavily against hers as he slid his tongue in her mouth.

A heat flared from her pussy and shot out to every nerve ending in her body. The amount of times she had imagined that very moment paled in comparison to what she was feeling.

His hands roamed up along the sides of her hips. His large fingers wrapping around her waist he pulled their two bodies even closer than they already were.

Liquid fire poured from her body as wetness seeped onto her panties.

A brief flash of Alex crossed her mind and she had a moment of regret.

It was all so crazy she couldn’t help but wonder if it was the world’s longest dream.

Chance slid his tongue down and along the side of her neck, biting gently on the tender flesh between that and her shoulder.

It was her weak spot and Chance was her weakness.

The combination of the two left for a complicated and insane ride she wasn’t sure she should take, but knew she wouldn’t be able to get off of.

She looked up into his eyes. Normally dark and filled with endless possibilities, this time they offered her something she’d never seen before.

Passion.

“Chance…” she whispered his name before biting on her bottom lip.

“Fuck. Get undressed, Blair. I’ve got to see you.”

Staring into his eyes, she did exactly as he told her to. Hurrying to rid her legs of her jeans, she quickly pushed them down her thighs and waited almost nervously as she kicked them off the rest of the way. Her shirt came next, then her bra and panties. And all the while he didn’t say a word, but stare at her.

“Chance…”

“Shh… don’t say anything.”

He took her hand and led her to the bed. He’d been so quiet and gentle for a moment that she hadn’t been prepared when he pushed her down on the bed.

He covered her with his large body and brought his mouth down to hers again, only this time, he nibbled gently on her bottom lip. The continued contradiction between being rough and gentle was wreaking havoc on her senses.

It was all so much, so fast.

And it was all… with Chance.
