Chapter Seven

Bree

He made love to me for the rest of the day and all night.

Never speaking, just feeling.

It felt like our years apart through us to the den of emotion where we were helpless.

I felt the constant need for him to touch me, to be near me, inside me.

When morning broke and the first rays of the sun peaked through the sky I watched in awe, feeling a calmness I’d never experienced.

I said never because when I was here before I couldn’t relax like this with Drew for fear that my father would catch us, or find out somehow, like he had that we were seeing each other.

We’d also never had sex the way we did last night.

The difference between teenagers losing themselves to each other and us as adults was completely astounding.

His hand smoothed over the flat of my stomach and I smiled, turning to face him.

He pressed his lips to mine and started kissing me. When I felt him take hold of my breasts so he could caress my nipples I pulled back.

If we continued like that we’d never leave this bed. And I desperately wanted to hear him talk.

“I’ve been here all night, and since yesterday afternoon. You haven’t said a word to me. Drew please, let me hear your voice. I haven’t in so long.”

Those sea-green eyes gazed up at me, pain in them. He ran his hands through his mass of blonde spiky hair and over the side of his beard.

“Too many things to say Bree, too painful,” he replied holding my gaze.

His words couldn’t have been truer, but just hearing him filled me with joy. That deep, baritone voice that I thought was sexy as hell was still just as effective.

“I’m sorry. I just wanted to hear you.”

“I know, I like hearing you too. It’s just weird because…” he looked away from me and gazed ahead.

“Because of what?”

“Time, is out of sync with me. I feel things I can’t just say because I haven’t seen you in ten years.” He shuffled to sit and I sat up too, pulling the covers over my breasts.

I knew what he meant, it still intrigued me though and I wanted to know what things he felt. Could he have felt the same way I did?

“You can say anything to me. I haven’t changed.”

“You have.” He nodded and reached for me to pull me closer so that I could snuggle against him. “You’re more beautiful than when I last saw you.” He said against my hair.

“Thank you, you’re more handsome.” I breathed. “And I didn’t fail to notice that you’re completely hot.”

I ran my eyes over the thick, solid mass of muscle that went right up his arm, and I didn’t bother to hide the desire that brimmed in my eyes when I looked up into his face.

A slow, easy, super sexy smile lifted the corners of his sensual mouth that set off the nest of butterflies in my stomach.

“Let’s go back to playing,” he said cupping my left breast. He pulled the sheet down and ran his fingers lightly over the diamond hard pebbled nipple.

It was easy to get zapped into the amazing feelings that rushed over my body as he touched me but I wanted, needed answers.

He couldn’t have forgotten me. I refused to believe that.

Especially after last night, and now.

I pulled away before I could be lured away into the temptation of him, and returned the sheets over my chest to cover me. He frowned.

“That’s not fair, I haven’t touched you in ten years.” He lay back on to the stack of pillows and stared at me.

My eyes found a scar just ender his hip where the sheet stopped. I saw it last night briefly and wondered how he’d gotten it.

“I was shot, that’s why I’m here. I’m medically discharged. The bullet took off a piece of the bone so I may limp sometimes, or be in serious pain depending on what I’m doing.” He said smiling.

“What? Are you okay?”

“As you saw last night, I’m fine.” The smile turned up a notch.

“Drew that’s not funny. You’re telling me you got shot and sounds like you were nearly paralyzed.”

“I’m okay, you want to talk well… I have no good stories to tell. That’s why I said nothing.”

“Didn’t you want to join the Navy?” I still hated the idea but I wouldn’t have wanted him to leave just because I felt that way.

“I did baby, and I loved it, but the choice to continue to serve was taken away from me. Now I’m back here. Exactly where I started.”

“But it’s home,” I offered.

“Our house that I live in by myself? Tending to your rose garden and surrounding myself with things to remind me of the girl that was…” he frowned again and looked away sighing with frustration.

The question on my mind was obviously what happened. But I didn’t know how to ask him that.

From my conversation with Lily yesterday I got the impression that there was more at work here than what I knew. Each second that passed with Drew was confirmation of it. I just didn’t want to ruin how I felt right now and this connection we had.

“What do you feel?” I asked.

He shook his head. “No… I won’t say it. The last time I said it to you, you were taken away from me and I never saw you for ten years.”

He told me he loved me. He said, “I love you, always remember that.”

“No one’s going to take me away from you.”

“You are leaving tomorrow,” he pointed out.

“Lily told you that?” I wondered when Lilly would have seen him to tell him that.

“She did.”

“Drew, something is going on and I wish I knew what it was. I have to ask you this, but I didn’t want to because you look really hurt.”

“Ask me baby.”

“What happened? I waited for you.” I tried to keep the quiver out of my voice.

“It’s a sad story really about a guy and a girl who loved each other and people did everything they could to keep them apart.”

“People?”

“People baby.”

Well the only people who could have kept us apart was my father and

I straightened up and narrowed my eyes as the answer came to me.

Lily?

“Aunt Lily, no she wouldn’t. She would never. I…” She wouldn’t have hurt me that way. I trusted her.

“Can you do me a favor?”

“Of course, anything.” I would do whatever he wanted me to do.

“Spend the day with me. Then go see Lily, but don’t blame her too much. She only did what she thought was right at the time.”

“Tell me what it is.” I had to know.

“We’ll talk after. Come back to me and we’ll talk after.”

“But you know what happened and won’t tell me,” I insisted.

He sat forward and cupped my face. “Beautiful Bree it spring. It’s a gorgeous day. I’m going to make love to you all day and then I want to see you in that rose garden. We’ll walk by the lake and just enjoy each other. Think of it as a spring fling. For today, please can you give me that?”

I gazed deeply into his eyes and smiled at the plan. “I can’t have a fling with you. We aren’t short term.”

“No?” He gave me that cocky smile I loved. “How about we see what happens when tomorrow comes. Miss National Geographic magazine photographer.”

“You know.”

“I do. You know what else?”

“What?”

“It’s time to play.”

I agreed with that completely.

I allowed the sheets to slip away from my breasts and leaned in for the kiss he gave me.
