Resisting Temptation (Into You Book 2) by Sheena Binkley (21)

Troy

After the impromptu party at the store, I needed to go home and get ready for my date with Reece. I rushed to my house so I could find something to wear and to think of how Reece would react to this surprise that I have in store for her.

Once I found an outfit, consisting of a gray Polo and light blue shorts, gelled my hair so it wouldn’t be in my face so much, checked my beard again to see if I didn’t have to shave, and got ready to leave.

I was getting a little nervous as I left my house. I don’t know why, I guess it was the idea that I was actually going on a date. I hadn’t been on an actual date in years, so this was sort of new for me. I guess Reece is really bringing out the guy that I was years ago.

As I pulled up to Vanessa and Mark’s house, I was really nervous. I had to shake off whatever I was feeling as I got out of my car and went to the door.

I rang the doorbell as I took deep breaths. The door slowly opened as Vanessa answered

“Hey, Vanessa.”

“Troy,”

“Before you say anything…”

“What is there for me to say? I already said if you hurt her I’ll come after you. I can’t stop her from going out with you, I just thought she had better sense to know what type of person you are.”

“Vanessa, stop.”

I looked inside to see Mark coming downstairs with Samantha. I waved as Mark nodded.

“You can at least invite the man in. Reece is still getting ready,”

“I don’t want to,”

“Vanessa,”

“Fine. Come in.”

I nodded as I walked in, realizing that this was the first time I have been in Vanessa and Mark’s house. I normally would meet Mark at either the store or at the restaurant, never at their home. I guess Vanessa never wanted me here. The only reason why I was here now was because Reece had to go back home to change. Since she didn’t know where we were going, I had no choice but to come to their home.

“Just know this is the first and last time you’ll be here,” Vanessa barked.

“What is your issue, V? Stop making the man nervous,” Mark said.

“He should be. I can’t believe Reece is falling for your shit,” she mumbled as she headed to the kitchen. She took Samantha from Mark before walking in.

Mark stared at his wife and shook his head.“Sorry about that, man. Vanessa’s been sort of bitchy since she found out you two were going out.”

“It’s cool. She’s just looking out for her cousin,”

“She thinks you’re going to hurt her; which I have to wonder, what is your agenda with Reece? Are you doing this so she will sleep with you?”

“Is that what everyone’s thinking?”

“Yeah,” Mark replied.

I sighed as I looked toward the stairs to see Reece walking down. She looked beautiful, dressed in a dark blue dress with gold sandals. Her hair was loose around her face and she had a sweet smile on her lips.

“Hey, I didn’t know you were here.” She said as she walked over to me.

Vanessa walked back into the living room shaking her head and holding Samantha. “I still don’t approve of this,”

“Nessa, I’m grown. Just let me be,”

“Don’t come crying to me when he hurts you, because you know he will.”

“Okay, that is our que to leave. Good night, and don’t wait up.” Reece said as she grabbed my hand and pulled me to the door.

“You better wear prot…” Vanessa blurted out, but Mark gave her a look that read “stop it”.

We walked outside and I had to lean against my car. Vanessa has always been a bit bossy, but that was brutal.

“I’m so sorry for my cousin. She can be a bit of a witch sometimes, but she’s only looking out for me.”

“I get that, but that was brutal in there.”

Reece smiled. “Just know not to mess with me so you don’t have to experience the wrath of Vanessa.”

“I experience that almost everyday at work,”

She chuckled as I put her hands into mines. “Are you ready for our date?”

“Of course. I’ve been looking forward to it since you told me.”

“Good, because I think you’ll enjoy it. But we better go because the sun is about to set.”

When I opened the passenger side of my car, Reece gave me a curious look. Once I got her in, I went to the driver’s side, hoping we could get to our destination before the sun actually set.
