Resisting Temptation (Into You Book 2) by Sheena Binkley (36)

Reece

Since I have been with Troy, all I can say is that my life has been unpredictable. From our unexpected escapades to just us hanging out, he has made me become more in tune with myself personally and sexually. Definitely sexually. That man knows my body so well, which has me wanting him every second. That’s why I couldn’t turn him down in the office, because I wanted him too. That, and because it was spontaneous.

Of course I had to quickly clean up so Nena wouldn’t feel awkward since she knew what was going on. She just told me she wouldn’t be eating in there again.

As the week progressed, so has the planning for the community event on Saturday. Everything was going smoothly, including the weather, it was going to be sunny and a bit humid. But that would bring out more business, which was going to be perfect. Since I had Crystal taking my place with running the register, all I had to do was oversee the event as well and take pictures to showcase on our website, social media pages, and to submit to news outlets. I couldn’t believe I got to book a segment for the local news station, so this was a pretty big deal.

The situation with Troy being offered the ownership position with the Dallas store was still up in the air since Vanessa and Mark wanted to run it by him after the event was held. The two felt it was best so they could see how the event would go and how Troy would handle the pressures of it. I knew Troy would do an excellent job, so that wouldn’t be a problem.

It was the day of the event and I was a bit nervous. I didn’t know how today was going to go, so I was trying to keep everything together.

I looked around at the facility, everything being set-up at its proper location when I turned around to see Kari staring at me. I glanced at her, wondering what she was doing there as she approached me.

“So, you’re the one who planned all this? I have to admit, it looks great so far.”

“If you’re here to cause trouble…”

“I’m not. I just wanted to talk to you about Troy.”

I immediately put my guard up as I came closer to her. This girl hasn’t been to this car wash in weeks, so why is she here now?

“Troy is doing just fine.”

“I know he is, because of you.”

“What is your angle right now, because I’m not in the mood for it.”

“There’s no angle, Reece. Did Troy tell you that he ran into my cousin and I a few weeks ago?”

I shook my head. “No, he didn’t.”

Kari smiled. “I knew then that he had changed. He was happier and more  focused. He seemed like a better person, and I hate to admit it, but you have that effect on him. I know he was in a bad place after what happened between my cousin and him, so I’m glad that he’s able to find love again.”

I folded my arms across my chest; I was listening to her talk but nothing she said moved me. She has an agenda, because there’s no way she would be freely talking to me. But she is right about one thing: Troy has changed and became more driven. As for the love part, we never expressed that we loved each other. I didn’t know how he would feel if I said it to him, that’s why I haven’t. But I was not going to give her the satisfaction in knowing that we haven’t.

“He has helped me as well, so it’s mutual.”

“I just wished that he was like this beforehand. I probably would have had my job back,” she said and chuckled.

“Trust me, you still wouldn’t have.”

She gave me a heated glance while I smirked. Fake ass.

“But can you please get to the point of this conversation? I really have a lot to do before the event starts.”

Kari cleared her throat and rolled her eyes. “That was all I wanted to say. I figured since I was in the area and saw you here, I just wanted to tell you that.”

“Okay, well thank you for that, but I really need to finish getting everything prepared. If you do plan on staying, then I hope you enjoy the event.” I said.

I was about to walk off when something she said made me stop in my tracks.

“There is one other thing I wanted to point out. That maybe you shouldn’t be freely talking about your misdeeds in a public place. You never know who may be listening.”

I slowly turned around as she gave a smirk of her own.

“What are you talking about?”

“I think you know, Reece. I don’t have to tell you; but if you don’t know, then you will later today.”

She walked past me while still having that smirk on her face. I watched her go to her car, realizing how immature that girl is.

I was about to go to the door when Jamarcus and Pamela were standing by the vacuum area.

“Is everything okay, Reece?” Pamela asked.

“I guess y’all saw that.”

“Of course. We know that girl is up to no good.” Pamela said.

“Why was she here anyway?” Jamarcus asked.

“I don’t know. I just hope she doesn’t cause any trouble today.”

“If she does, then I’ll be glad to escort her off the premises.” Jamarcus said.

“You and me both. I could never stand that girl,” Pamela said.

I smiled. “Thanks you two, but that probably won’t even be necessary.”

I hope…

Instead of going inside, I went to the back. I stared at the rock centerpiece when a realization hit me.

Did she hear about the conversation I had with Vanessa?

I looked around, wondering if she did, then how the hell did she hear it?

I prayed that she didn’t hear about the Dallas store. If she did, she would definitely use that to her advantage.

I sat down on the centerpiece, hoping that this day didn’t go the route that I was thinking.
