Resisting Temptation (Into You Book 2) by Sheena Binkley (44)

Troy

During the flight to Dallas, all I could think about was whether Reece would talk to me. I was anxious to see her, but I was a little hesitant to. I know I should had done my best to talk to her before she left, but my pride got in the way; now, I feel like kicking myself.

If she doesn’t talk to me, then I let the one good thing slip away from me, and I can only blame myself for it.

Once Jamarcus and I got to DFW, we had to jump into the rental car that Vanessa got for us and speed to Suds Dallas. I don’t know if either her or Mark are there, but I would have to personally thank them for this. Vanessa was the one that was against Reece and I being together, so it was great to know that she was rooting for us to get back together.

As we got to the car wash, Jamarcus went to find Reece while I went inside so she wouldn’t see me. I met up with Vanessa and Mark, who had Samantha with them; they were in the lobby with Nuicka and Cedric.

“I didn’t think you would get here.” Mark said before he gave me a brotherly hug.

“I didn’t think you two provided a way for me to get here. I can’t thank you two enough for this.”

Vanessa smiled. “I know I had some issues with you being with Reece, but I seen a different side of you with her. She brought out a side of you that I didn’t know existed. You made my cousin happy too, so you’re good for each other.”

I smiled. “Thanks, Vanessa.”

“No problem,”

As I hugged Nuicka and Cedric, the anxiety I had earlier was coming back, so I had to take slow, deep breaths. I was never this nervous to talk to a woman; but Reece wasn’t just some woman, she was the love of my life.

“What are you going to do to win her back?” Mark asked.

I smiled. “I have a few tricks up my sleeve. But first, I need to know where the office is.”

Once Mark led me to the office, I put my plan into action. I figured everything out during the plane ride, so hopefully Reece would like it.

“Are you going to change your clothes? I know you didn’t want her to see you like this.” Mark asked.

I shook my head. “I was going to, but I was wearing my uniform the day we met, so this is perfect for the occasion.”

With some help from Mark, I set up the intercom for my surprise and went back to the lobby as I waited for Jamarcus to convince Reece to come in. I glanced over at Nuicka who gave me the thumbs up. I texted her before landing, so she knew I was coming. I’m glad she didn’t give Reece a heads up, so this will be even more exciting.

I smiled at the two cashiers at the counter, who didn’t have a clue to what was going on. No one knew, but they would soon enough when Reece walks in.

My heart started racing as the door to the lobby opened and Reece walked in. Jamarcus and her parents weren’t too far behind as they stopped to see what was about to happen.

“Troy?”

“Hi, Reece.”

“What are you doing here?”

“I came to see you. Let me rephrase that; I came to get you back.”

Several customers stopped what they were doing to see what was going on. I didn’t care if I had an audience. I was there to get my girl back.

Reece rolled her eyes. “If you think you’re going to with that tired line, then you’re truly mistaken.” She said as she was trying to walk away. She went past me when I gently grabbed her waist.

“Troy…”

“Please hear me out. When I first met you, I thought you would be just like the other women that I was involved with. I just saw you as another woman to add to my list, but you were different. Damn, you’re different, and you knew that. You didn’t fall for my antics; instead, you were real with me, which was something that made me fall for you.

“You knew about my track record on love; you knew that I despised it and didn’t want any part of it, but I had to realize that it had to be the right woman for me to have that feeling again, and that woman is you…”

“Troy,”

“You made me believe in love again, Reece. You showed me how to love someone and to be loved. Reece, I love you.”

Reece’s eyes were filled with tears as I went behind the counter to pick up the intercom. I texted Mark, who was still in the office, to go ahead with my surprise. A second later and the song, “You” from Maze featuring Frankie Beverly was playing. I only knew about them from Jamarcus, and even Reece when she played a few songs from them, but this song really hit home for me because I can relate to the lyrics. Reece is that special someone for me, so I felt this song was fitting for the moment.

“Alright now,” Jamarcus said as he bobbed his head to the music.

Reece smiled as she listened to the lyrics. I didn’t know how she would take this, but she seemed to enjoy it.

Once the song was over, I smiled as Reece shook her head.

“I can’t believe you just did all of this.”

“I’ll do whatever I have to do to get you back into my life.”

Reece stared down at the ground before looking into my eyes. “Troy, I know I lied to you about this store, and I still feel bad about it, but I felt that you also had a hand in us breaking up.”

“I know that, and I’m owning up to it now. I was stupid for what I’ve done, and I’ll make it up to you till the day that I die. If I have to get on my knees and beg, I’ll do it. Anything for you to come back to me. We both made mistakes, but that’s what makes us human.”

“It does, doesn’t it.”

“If you need to take some time, then I’m fine with that, but I just wanted to get my thoughts off of my chest.”

Reece nodded. “Okay, no problem. I’m glad that you came, though.”

I stared at her, wondering why she was so nonchalant about this. I just poured my heart out to her, and it seemed like she didn’t care.

I was standing there looking crazy as Reece gave me a hug. I watched her go to the restroom, leaving me slightly confused.

What the hell just happened?

I couldn’t move, as I was still staring at the hallway, not sure how to process what just occurred. Jamarcus and Mark came over to me, wondering if I was okay as I turned to stare at them.

“I guess Reece needed some time to think.”

I watched as customers were giving us strange looks; I felt like shit. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy to get Reece back, but I thought we would have at least talked about what happened.

I was about to walk out of the door when I heard my name. I turned to see Reece coming to me as she put her arms around me.

“I love you too, Troy.”

We stood in the middle of the lobby, holding each other as if we were the only two there. She put a hand on the back of my neck and just looked at me.

“Did you think I was going to walk away without saying it?”

“I did,”

“You don’t know me that well, then.”

“What do you say? You want to give us a try again?”

Reece smiled. “I think that can be arranged.”

“I do have one request.”

She asked. “What’s that?”

“Will you become my wife?” I asked.

“Oh, my word!” I heard Nuicka exclaimed when I pulled out a red velvet ring box and got down on one knee. That was the other surprise I had, but I didn’t tell anyone about it, except Jamarcus. I had a second chance with Reece, so I wasn’t going to let that slip away from me.

While we were at the airport, I told Jamarcus I had to make a stop. He didn’t know the stop was to the closest jewelry store. I happened to find out Reece’s ring size while the two of us were lying next to each other and I was staring at the ring she was wearing. Hopefully she loves it.

I looked at her as she had her hands over her mouth. She was completely stunned and tears were streaming down her cheeks.

“I know this is unexpected and I’m sorry that I’m putting you on the spot, but I don’t want to go another day without us being together.”

“Yes, Troy.”

I glanced at her as she started to nod her head.

“Really?”

“Yes, I’ll marry you!”

I got up and quickly put the ring on her finger. I fumbled a bit and Reece started giggling. I pulled her in my arms again, whispering I love her as everyone in the lobby were either clapping or cheering for the two of us.

“I can get you another ring if you don’t like this one.”

“It’s perfect, Troy.”

As the cheering became louder, Reece came closer to me.

“I need to share some news of my own.”

“You already made me happy, Reece. What more could you possibly tell me?”

She smiled. “You’re going to be a father, Troy. I’m pregnant.”

Now it was my turn to be speechless, I had to lean on the counter. She gave me a concerned look, I had to take in what she’d just said.

“I’m going to be a father?”

She nodded. “I just found out two weeks ago. I know I should have told you sooner, but since we haven’t talked to each other and I…”

“It’s okay, mija. I still can’t believe I’m going to be a father.”

“Believe it, because it’s happening in seven months.”

I smiled. “Wow. Everything is happening so fast.”

“Are you okay with that?”

I nodded. “As long as it’s with you, then I’m perfectly fine. Are you?”

“Of course I am.”

I kissed her again, then announced that we’re having a baby. Everyone was shocked, especially Reece’s parents. As our family and friends were congratulating us on both the engagement and pregnancy, I couldn’t help but think about everything that has happened in the last few months. I didn’t think the woman that walked into Suds as the new office manager would turn my world upside down. At first, I was lost and didn’t know where my life was going, but when I met Reece, she changed me into a better person and made me believe in something that I’d lost sight of years ago.

Now, I’m happy that Vanessa brought Reece into my life. I don’t know where I would be without her. For that, I will always be grateful for.
