Resisting Temptation (Into You Book 2) by Sheena Binkley (42)

Troy

It has been three months since Reece has been gone and my life has slowly gone back to how it was before. Now, I don’t give a shit about things, and I’m okay with that. In fact, I even talked to some women. I haven’t slept with them, but at least I’m talking to them.

Who the hell I’m kidding. I’m fucking miserable; and talking to another woman is something that I don’t want to do, but I figured I have to so I can move on. I can’t be with Reece, so I might as well be with someone new.

I began to zone out, not caring what I was staring at as I thought about Reece being at Suds Dallas. She’s probably enjoying being back in Dallas, owning her own business. Even though Pamela said she’s not the owner, I’m sure she’s taking some part in the company since Vanessa and Mark are not present. They supposed to head down to Dallas soon, but from what I’d heard, Reece is holding down the store until they get there.

I was still staring at nothing when I heard someone calling my name. I suddenly came back to reality when I noticed Jamarcus staring at me.

“Are you okay?”

I shook my head and answered him. “Yeah, I’m cool. What’s up?”

“I was just checking on you, seeing if you’re cool.

“I am. Why wouldn’t I be?”

“Because today’s the grand opening of the Dallas store.”

“What does that have to do with me?”

“Will you stop with the ‘I don’t give a shit’ attitude. If you feel some type of way, then admit it.”

“I don’t. In fact, I’m happy for Reece. She got what she wanted.”

“She never wanted the store, Troy. She still wants you.”

I shot Jamarcus an evil glare and walked away.

“You can’t walk away from the truth, Troy!”

I was going through the door when Jamarcus was trying to catch up to me.

“Can you do some work, man?”

“I would say that to you, but I’m going to let that slide. You need to talk to Reece.”

“Why should I? I didn’t talk to her when she was here.”

“Yeah, because your stubborn ass didn’t want to. You let her slip away from you.”

“She did that to herself.”

“I get that she lied to you, but she didn’t lie about how she felt for you.”

“How do you know that?”

“Because I’d talked to her almost everyday. She misses you, but she’s also stubborn and doesn’t want to make the first move. Just by that, you two are perfect for each other.”

“I think it’s best if we just move on.”

“Do you really want that? Can you really say that you can live your life without her? Because honestly, she changed you into a better man. Even I saw that.”

I walked to the back near the tunnel to sit on the rock centerpiece. I knew that Jamarcus was right. I just didn’t want to admit it.

“I’m not going to deny that I miss her, but I don’t know if things would be the same.”

“It can be, if you’re willing to work things out.”

“I wouldn’t know where to start.”

“You could start by going down to Dallas to talk to her.”

“I can’t just leave the store unattended.”

Jamarcus gave me the side eye. “You have three other managers here that are capable of running the store.”

“I have four.”

“I left myself out of the equation, because I’m coming with you.”

“Seriously?”

“Someone has to keep you in line.”

“Mark and Vanessa are not going to approve this.”

“They did. It was their suggestion.”

“She might not want to see me. I was an ass to her.”

“I guess you’ll find out when you get there.”

“I have to pack…”

“Already done.” Pamela said as she approached us with my duffle bag.

“Wait, what the hell? How did you get in my house?”

“You left your keys in the office. I had to sneak out so you wouldn’t notice. And your alarm code is your birthday.”

“I should have you arrested for breaking and entering.”

“I’ll just say I had a key.”

“We did that to save time. Now, Vanessa bought us plane tickets for us to go.”

“We could drive.”

“It’ll only take an hour by plane. Now, are you ready? Our flight leaves in thirty minutes.”

“I still need to change my clothes. I can’t go in my uniform.”

“I don’t think Reece will mind. Besides, you’ll blend in with the store.” Pamela said.

Jamarcus folded his arms. “Now, can we please go. We have a flight to catch.”

I smiled. “Alright, let’s go.”

“Yes! Let’s go get your woman.” Jamarcus said as he headed to his car. I grabbed the duffle bag from Pamela and gave her a hug.

“Thank you,”

“Just go talk to her.”

I pulled away from her and nodded as I caught up with Jamarcus. Before getting into his car, I told Patrick and my other assistant manager, Kelly, to please hold down the fort while I’m gone. They nodded as I hopped into Jamarcus’ car.

“I can’t believe I’m doing this.”

“I can’t either, but I’m proud of you. You’re growing up, man.”

I smiled as I looked out the window. I really couldn’t believe that I was about to see Reece, but I’m glad that I was. I should have talked to her a long time ago. Because of our stubbornness, we wasted a lot of time that we could have been together. Now, I was anxious to see her and tell her how much of an ass I was and that I love her.

Before the day is over, Reece and I will be back together, which was something I was looking forward to.
