Cross My Heart by S.N. Garza, Stephanie Nicole Garza (12)

Great. Why the hell did he have to find me here of all places? I knew this shit was all bogus anyway. Ethan was only do this because I won’t sleep with him. He was a good enough looking guy but he just wasn’t my type. Not that I knew what my type was, but he just didn’t do anything for me.

Unlike the sexy asshat in front of me. Jesus. He looked so completely sexy in the molded, faded blue jeans and the tight polo shirt he was sporting. And the tattoos…he had sleeves of them. Why is that so incredibly hot? Especially the way the muscles bunched underneath as he moved…yummy.

GAH! You’re in jail, sister. Stop thinking about him and the sexiness he represents. You can’t have him remember? You have plans and it doesn’t include him.

And the rage-filled expression on his face only made him look rougher…manlier…sexier. It made all my girl parts heat with desire.

“What the hell do you mean? Just because he won’t sleep with you, he’s going to hold you here? Is he the one that did that to your face?”

“My other charges were ‘resisting arrest’ and ‘threatening an officer’. Which are both not true. John would tell the truth about the first one. Ethan shoved him out of the way before he decided to take matters into his own hands. Literally.”

“He’s dead.”

“Threatening an officer? You’ll be in the cell next to me.”

“If only I could be so lucky. And no one would be able to find his body.”

“We are in a jail house, Gavin. We are being recorded, probably.”

“Look at my face, Evony.” When I did, he said, “Does it look like I give a fuck?”

And the thing is, I believed him. He looked serious enough. His eyes gave nothing away. Stony. Protective. And I didn’t want it.

Sighing heavily, I kept my gaze steady on his.

“Don’t worry about me, Gavin.” I couldn’t help the wariness creeping into my voice. I didn’t want him doing anything for me. I’d get out in a good seventy-two hours. Fucktard couldn’t keep me here any longer than that without justifiable cause. And God knows he’s probably bullying John to keep his mouth shut. Then Gavin said something that turned my world upside down.

“Wouldn’t be the first time I killed for you.”

He said that so low, I almost didn’t hear him. But my heart started to race just the same and my eyes widened at his confession.

“What did you just say?”

“Nothing. I’m going to get you out of here and then you are going to come back home with me.”

“I’m sorry? What do you mean, come back home with you? I live in the trailer next door. They all basically look the same, Gavin. And I heard what you said. That’s not possible.”

“No. Back to my home in Kansas, near the base. And I know you heard me. I just won’t go into it here.”

“HA! I don’t think so. I have work. I have things I have to do. I can’t just go on a mini-vacay with you. I barely know you. And get into it here? You just said it! I don’t even know what you’re talking about.”

“Evony, you know me. I haven’t changed. And it wouldn’t be a mini vacation, I can promise you that. And deep down, you know. The real reason I had to leave. But like I said. Here isn’t the time or place.”

“Well, I’ve changed and I don’t want to go anywhere with you or anyone else. I’m fine just where I am.”

“No you’re not, honey. You are definitely not fine where you are. You are drowning.”

Drowning? Why did he think he knew what was best for me? He always had a knack for that and when I was younger, I didn’t know better. But I’m a grown ass woman and I can take care of myself just fucking fine without him.

“You know what? You can take whatever lawyer friend you got and tell him to just forget it. I’d rather rot for the next seventy-two hours.”

I hung up the phone and got up, telling the guard, “We’re finished.”

“LIKE HELL WE ARE, EVONY!”

Don’t react. You’re stronger than this. Keep walking. But was I strong? Apparently not where Gavin was concerned.

Fuck. This wasn’t happening. Not right now. A tear—a fucking tear—slipped past my eye lid and down my cheek. I shoved my hand up, swiped away the offensive droplet and looked back to Gavin and found a concerned yet determined expression marring his face.

I mouthed, ‘You’re too late.’ Then turned and let the guard take me back to my cell.

Sitting there, I looked around and knew what I said was true. He was too late. Twelve years too late to save me. I laid down in the hard, lumpy bed and just as I closed my eyes to shut out the world and my recent predicament, I heard keys jingling.

“Wow. Two visitors in one day, Miss. Summers. Aren’t you popular?”

“Oh, Ethan, I love our intrigues together. Please don’t hesitate to just not come by and let the actual guard do their job.”

“Now why would I do that? I’d be depriving myself of your,” he looked over my body like a sick voyeur and smiled, “beautifully put together self? I mean that suit just screams fashion.”

“Why? Because it’s a size too small? Bite me, you idiot. And I don’t want to see anybody.”

“Well, they aren’t giving me a choice. Get your ass up or I’ll make it get up.”

“You could try.”

He reached out for me when John appeared behind him. “Come on, Ethan. Stop harassing her.”

He opened the door and said, “Leave us, John.”

John knew I could take care of myself and he just rolled his eyes at me before walking away. We had been in the same year together in high school when I dropped out and he’d always been nice to me after I repeatedly told him I didn’t want or need his chivalry. Although that one time…no. I couldn’t think about that. That was tragic and misery just waiting to pull me under.

When he was out of sight, Ethan’s eyes looked evil and mean and licked his lips before bringing his hand over to grab his junk, giving it a good squeeze. He tried to see if I would react but I was a stripper. I was immune to lewd gestures and I kept a straight face; giving him a bored look.

Then his other hand came up in a peace sign and he flicked his tongue in and out. A plain as day invitation of him saying he’d eat me out.

Gag me. I scrunched my nose in disgust.

“Oh, Ethan, if only your dick was bigger than a cocktail weenie.”

A swift backhand to the same side of my bruised face made me see stars, but I didn’t let it deter me from spitting out a splash of blood back at his face and laughing like a loon.

“Stupid bitch.”

“Stupid bitch I may be but my pussy is one thing you’ll never have. You should clean up your face.”

I walked around him as John opened the door.

“Nice one, Evony.”

He winked before I followed him to an interview room. John stayed in one corner while I met with an older gentlemen.

“Ma’am? I am William Bask. I’m your defense attorney.”

“You’ve got to be kidding me. I told Gavin not to bother.”

“Yes, well, the arrangements have been made and you’ll be released within the hour.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I talked with the Captain of this station and he’s willing to release you. John Forrester swears on his badge that you didn’t resist arrest and in lieu of scaring you and you turning to defend yourself, he isn’t pressing charges on the other account. But Mr. Winters did tell me when he left you there were no bruises on your face. Could you tell me how you attained them?”

“No.”

“Are you sure? If Officer Womack did anything to you, you can press charges against him. Your face is awfully red right now. Did something happen?” His voice turned steely and I just rolled my eyes. Give me a break.

“Yes, I am sure. And it’s nothing.”

He looked at me with knowing eyes and then looked at John, who when I turned had turned his head to the side and nodded.

What the hell?

“I’m fine. I’ve had worse than a little fucked up face. It’s nothing.”

“There’s no going back from this if you don’t admit it.”

“There’s nothing to admit.” I turned to John and said, “Tattle tale. But thank you for what you said to your boss.”

“I only spoke the truth, Ev. And Mr. Winters did say you only were trying to get back what belonged to you and didn’t have his number to get your stuff. So, no worries.”

I nodded and looked back at Mr. Bask.

“What do I need to do?”

“Just get processed out and Gavin will be outside waiting for you.”

“Thank you. I’ll deal with him when I get outside. I appreciate you coming all this way from wherever you’re from.”

“Kansas. I’m his superior officer. But I’m also a defense attorney. Let me just say something before we depart, if you’ll let me.”

It took everything inside me to let him speak his peace. He was friends with Gavin and came at a drop of a hat to help him. To have friends like that must be really nice.

I nodded to let him know he could speak freely.

“That boy loves you. Always has and I’m sure always will. If you need to get help, let him help you. He wants nothing more than for you to be happy, Evony.”

“Help?” Something inside just snapped. I turned and slammed my hands down on the table, “HELP? Where the hell has he been for twelve years? HE COULD HAVE CALLED ME! Came home! He left me broken, confused and all the fuck alone. Happy won’t ever be in the cards for me. I don’t get a happily ever after, sir. That ship sailed when he left me out in those woods and left me behind. That little girl who only wanted to be loved, is long gone. In her place is a woman who doesn’t give a fuck.”

He sighed and shook his head. “I hope you’re wrong about that, miss.” Then he got up and left.

I needed to get out of here. My eyes were burning. How long has it been since I cried? Like drug out, heart wrenching bawling? Since before he left. When his mother left, I didn’t cry. When I realized he really wasn't coming back, I didn't cry. Every single time my mother hit me with her fists, with vodka bottles, or kicked me until I thought I was dying—nope. My eyes might have tried, but I was able to steel myself against them. But now—I felt like my skin was about to combust.

“John. Thank you again.”

“Evony, I’m sorry this happened. After what—

“It's okay. No worries, John. You're a real gentleman.”

He opened the door and was leading me to the changing rooms so I can put my own clothes back on.

“And I think you're wrong too, by the way.” He said as he walked back to the door.

“Wrong about what?”

“You could be happy, if only you give yourself a chance.”

With sad eyes he made his leave from the room.

Great. Another person trying to give me advice.

I changed quickly, then started out towards the front. But of course, my thoughts of escaping by my lonesome was in vain. Gavin and his band of merry men were waiting for me.

“I told you—

“Oh shut up.” Then he wrapped me in his arms and his mouth descended just as a protest began spewing from my mouth. He tasted of coffee and mint. I kept my hands to my sides, not really knowing what to do with them.

He dominated and controlled the kiss, but I didn't mind. It made me feel intoxicated and I felt my stomach flutter and my pussy cream with arousal. He really knew how to kiss. The moan that escaped took me by surprise and my hands rose to grip the material of his polo.

Then with a will of their own, they skimmed over—oh mother Jesus—a muscular chest to broad, hard shoulders before I tightened my hold around his neck, bringing him closer.

With his hands on the small of my back, his fingers traced over the tattoo before stopping at my hips. He squeezed the soft flesh as he backed away.

I knew how I must have looked. Dazed and somewhat confused. Confused because no one has ever made me feel like this.

I shoved him away with a growl and looked at all the people surrounding us and the scene we made.

The lawyer and the man I recognized from twelve years were standing with small smiles on their faces and then I could feel eyes behind me. I turned to see John shaking his head and Ethan’s death stare.

I felt Gavin's lips next to my ear, “He keeps looking at you like that and I might have to find a grave for him.”

I chuckled at his cryptic remark, raised my hand and finger-waved Ethan who only gritted his teeth and fisted his hands by his side. I pulled out my phone once I got outside and called Teresa, the girl I was supposed to teach with today.

“I was so worried, Evony! Everything okay?”

“Yes. I was arrested just before I left to come to class.”

“ARRESTED!!! Oh my! But everything's okay now?”

“Yes. Sometimes it's good to know people in high places. I'm so sorry.”

“That's okay. You've never welched on any promises with me and I figured it would’ve had to’ve been bad for you not to be here.”

“Evony?”

I heard Gavin calling me and he was about ten feet away, talking to his friends when I held up my hand, telling him to give me a second.

“Teresa, lemme call you back. I've just run into another problem.”

“Good or bad?”

“I don't know yet.”

“Is it a man?”

“Why do you say that?”

“It's a man. Ride him and release him, girl.”

“You know what,” turning fully around, looking over Gavin's body, a smirk came over my face. When he looked back at me and crunched his eyes, I said, “I just might.”

“Oooh, girl! Have fun! Hey, you think you can come tomorrow? There’s a class I’d like you to show that hot, sexy routine to.”

“That sounds great. Laters, T.”

I disconnected and the man I recognized from before and the lawyer went their separate ways after shaking hands with Gavin.

Then with a confident swagger only men like him had, Gavin walked towards me. I swear that walk made me shiver.

“Need a ride?”

“Looks that way, Gavin. Where’re your buddies going?”

“Back to Kansas. They were able to delay their return.”

“You know I know him.”

“Know who?”

“The one that’s not a lawyer. Are they gay?”

“Jake? How do you know him? And yes. How could you tell?”

I turned and started walking towards the parking lot. Anyone could see his monster damn truck from anywhere.

“You can tell just by looking at them. The way they look at each other. And the one you called Jake? He was there when your mother found me.”

“Is that why you gave him a look of death?”

“Ha. If only. No. He heard everything your mother said to me and I guess he had no problem seeing me broken and beat down.”

“That’s one thing we need to talk about.”

“No, we really don’t, Gavin.”

“What my mother did to you is—

“What any mother would have done for her child when she truly loves them.”

“She made me a promise, Evony.”

“Yeah, well, like mother, like son it seems.”

I refuse to get into this with him. I wasn’t going to. Just walk to the damn truck, Evony. Teresa’s advice forgotten. No way would I have sex with him when all he wants to do was talk about the past.

“I meant and kept my promises to you.”

“HA! Just open the damn door. Take me home.”

“You are being incredibly hard headed about this.”

“O’well. Want in one hand, manure in the other. Tell me which one will fill faster. Now let’s go.”

I smacked his passenger side door with emphasis. I wasn’t looking at him—I couldn’t or I’d probably break—I could feel him though as he got closer. I couldn’t help it when my eyes closed and his heat surrounded me.

“Evony. Look at me, honey.”

Nope. Not happening.

“Do I need to make you, baby? Because I will.”

I let out a laugh, but it was short lived when he yanked me around and caged me in. That killed my laughter and looked up into his dark chocolate eyes, full of heat and irritation was making me hot and slick with desire. Made me wonder what he was like in bed.

And like an idiot, my eyes roamed over his body, his t-shirt just tight enough to tell he was lean and sexy. One of his thighs found the cleft between my legs and holy Jesus, his thigh was hard and toned. I felt the bulge he was packing against my hip as he got closer. My tongue licked my lips in anticipation. His were pure temptation.

His whole body was. He looked like one hot, primal, alpha male. Maybe Teresa was right. I should just have sex with him. Even if it was just once.

“Don’t do that, baby.”

“Do what?”

“Wet those pretty lips and beg me to have a taste.”

“What if I wanted to?”

“Change of heart? And here I thought you wanted nothing to do with me.”

“I don’t. Not really. But you look…feel…so good.”

His body pressed closer to mine, his nose traced a path up my jaw and his warm breath tickled my ear.

“You feel just as amazing, Evony. Have you ever had a man, baby?”

“That’s really none of your business. Besides, it’s been twelve years, Gavin. I’m all woman, now. I’m not the same girl you knew.”

His tongue flicked out and it was like the shell of my ear became its own needy, desperate pressure point because a sharp tingle shot straight down my spine. I felt my panties getting soaked from what he was doing to me. I squeezed my legs, trying to control the moisture but with his thigh wedged there, I only compressed it and he rubbed his hard muscle against my clit. The hard friction between his denim and my thin as fuck leggings weren’t barrier enough to stop what he was doing to me. What was he doing? Sweet cheese and crackers my pussy felt like it was on the brink of something I’ve never felt before.

“Oh, God. Don’t stop. Feels so good.”

He body leaned all the way in, covering me. He had one hand still above my head but the other one skimmed over my curves on downward until I felt his pointer finger teasing the hem of my leggings, just above the hood of my vagina.

“Come for me. Right here, right now, Evony. Une juste peu de goût.”

“Fuck. Are you speaking French to me?”

“Donne le moi. Ma fille. Ma fille á jamais.”

“I don’t really know the language. I just think it’s pretty. I only took one year before I dropped out. Please be saying something pretty right now.”

“Depuis toujours. Si belle. Si magnifique. Si precieux. Le mien. Moi pour toujours.”

His words did me in as I felt my body explode. My skin sensitizing. His lips claimed mine in a hard, rough kiss that had me needy for more.

“Fuck. Oh, mother—oh lord, baby Jesus.”

He leaned closer still until his fingers had slipped beneath my panties and over the slick mound of my pussy where all my heat gathered.

“Gavin.”

“That’s it, baby. So sweet and so fine, Evony.”

I bit my lip as something came over me. Was that my first orgasm?

Yes. Yes it was.

Did I want more?

Fuck. Yes.

“Feel better, Evony?”

I couldn’t even speak. What the fuck was up with that crap? One small little orgasm leaves me speechless? How would it feel if there was more to that than just that?

“Je suis dans le petrin.”

“Oui, le mien. Vous êtes en sérieux problème.”

Fuck me. I understood that. I was in serious trouble. This was Gavin and he was my downfall before. If I took this further there would be a tie that would always be there between us. The only question remaining was…Am I ready to take it to the next level?

Looking at him and how hot, sinfully sexy he was…yes. I did want to go there.

And damn the consequences.
