But today she wants my help to organise a funeral.” I gave him a raised brow. “Yeah, I’ll do it. Help her, but she knows I won’t be there to attend it.”
Nodding, I asked, You want me to clear out?
He shook his head, his lips thinning. “No. You should be here when I tell her about us.”
I choked on the air I drew back too quickly into my lungs. My hands landed on the counter behind me while I coughed like a ninety-year-old smoker.
Jay patted my back a few times before he walked over and sat in front of Nevaeh, carefree, as fuckin’ if he hadn’t just blown my head off by tellin’ me he wanted to share with his mother, his bloody mother, about us.
