Taking Laura (A Broken Heart Book 3) by Vi Carter (47)

LAURA

I think I have questioned most people in the facility about the attack on Craig. But no one saw anything. How could no one at all know nothing. There are camera’s everywhere and when I requested to see them, I was laughed at. So I went to Rose, she said they were looking into it. But that was two days ago, and Craig still hadn’t woken up. What if he never did? I pushed the fear away. He would. He had too.

“Come in.” Rose calls as I knock on her door. I open it and I can see she isn’t exactly thrilled to see me.

“I’m sorry Laura, but we still have no information. The camera’s where out the night Craig was attacked. I shouldn’t be telling you that.”

“Have you informed the police?”

“Yes.” The way Rose says it tells me she’s lying.

She stands now and moves towards me steering me out of her office.

“I was actually about to come get you. He’s awake.”

I don’t wait for Rose, I’m walking fast and then I’m running. I don’t slow until I reach the hospital door. I stop and try and catch my breath before entering. When I reach Craig’s bed his eyes are still closed, like they have been the last two days. My shoulders drop as I lower myself into the chair. With a heavy sigh I take Craig’s hand like I’ve done the last two days, it still feels as heavy as it had.

“I miss you.” I tell him before kissing his hand.

“I’d prefer those lips on my face.” I’m out of the chair leaning over him, he’s awake. His green eyes are open and clear.

“Hi.” I tell him wanting to touch his face, but the bruising has me pausing.

“What’s a guy got to do to get a kiss around here.” I laugh and kiss him as gently as possible, but Craig pulls me on top of him, and I kiss him deeply now. It’s weird not to feel his lip ring. Whoever hurt him ripped it out. The savage. The thought of his lips has me leaning out.

“What happened? Did you see who did this to you?” My eyes roam his face but he’s still smiling at me, his knuckles grazing my cheek.

“I love you.” The world tilts, and I can feel the pressure of the blood that rushes to my head before slamming back into my feet. He just said he loved me. For a moment I stare trying to comprehend what he’s saying.

“You remember how you use to give me the ‘fuck off’ eyes. You’re doing it again.” He doesn’t even sound offended, he’s still smiling.

I sit down on his bed and he has to scamper over to let me.

“You love me?” Why I’m questioning it, I’m not sure. But it’s Craig and I’m – Laura.

“Yes Laura Teller, I love you.”

I’m laughing now, to stop it I hold my fist to my lips. “Craig loves Laura?”

“Okay, Okay, what’s this now. The third grade.” His playful tone has me shaking my head.

“Laura loves Craig.” Now he goes still, no longer smiling.

“I love you Craig. I love everything about you.” He’s sitting up, his hands in my hair and our lips are touching gently, carefully but each kiss is so deep that I feel it in my soul.
