Rock Solid Love (Hearts On Tour Book 2) by Nora Crystal (51)

The British Biker’s Baby

atmosphere was heavy in the dingy bar. Everyone within a hundred-mile radius had come for the meeting that was about to start. Trina could hear their nervous whispers coming from the main room from where she was standing on the stairs. Everyone knew that something big was going to happen. The rumours had been circulating for weeks.

“Are you ready?” Trina’s brother Dominic asked her.

. She was ready. She knew that she was ready, but that wasn’t stopping her nerves from making her body shake, just ever so slightly. “I think so,” she said and smiled nervously at her brother.

Trina looked up to Dominic -not just because he towered over her, but because he was the best brother that a girl could ask for. Sure, he wasn’t a clean cut, business suit wearing kind of guy, but his heart was big and he loved her immensely. Their parents had died in a car crash when Trina had been seven and Dominic had been twelve. From that day on, Dominic looked after Trina, as though he was her mother, father and brother all wrapped up into one.

“Then let’s do this,” he said, as he took his sister’s hand and led her down the stairs and into the main room of the bar. Their appearance quickly quietened the buzz of conversation and within minutes you could have heard a pin drop. “It’s good to see so many of you here,” Dominic said as he addressed the crowd. “As I’m sure a lot of you know there have been some pretty heavy rumours going around about our competition. They seem to think that they can move onto our territory and take our custom,” he went on and the crowd grumbled loudly in reaction. “The time has come for us to do something about it. I’ve been given a tip that the Snake Fangs are due a huge drop off in a couple of weeks. A drop off that that’s worth more than a million dollars, we’re going to hijack that drop off and make us some money.”

The crowd went wild.

“It’s not going to be easy though,” Trina picked up from where her brother had left off. “We’ve been given the date of the drop off, but not the location. If we’re going to find that out, then we’re going to need to send somebody in undercover. We’re going to need somebody that we can trust to work them from the inside and find out where this drop off is happening. Any volunteers?” She asked the crowd with a smirk. “No?” She asked when all the men in front of her were glancing nervously to the person next to them. “Well, it’s a good job that we’ve already got somebody willing to do it then.”

“Who?” Someone in the crowd called out.

“Me,” Trina said, as she pouted her big, red lips at the crowd. “I’ve discussed this with my brother. I’m going to get close to the leader of the Snake Fangs. His name is Rob and he’s the one person who will know the location of the drop off. I’m not going to lie to you guys this is going to be dangerous for me, so when I’ve got the location I’m going to be taking a fifty percent split of the money. The rest of it will be divided out between you all.”

The crowd started to call out in disagreement. “What makes you think that you are worth half of the money? I’ll go do it if I’m getting half a million for it,” a man with greasy ponytail and old leathers that did nothing to hide his gut said.

Trina glanced around the crowd and then settled her eyes on the man who had spoken out. She sharpened her gaze on him, until her eyes were barely slits and then she walked over with prolonged steps that only added to the intense atmosphere. She stopped at his table. She could already see small speckles of sweat starting to line his forehead. She slammed her hands down on the table, so that the whole thing shook and the noise rang out through the otherwise silent bar. “What did you say?” She asked him with a cold hard tone.

“I said I’d do it,” the man said quickly, but he didn’t sound half as cocky as he had the first time.

“That’s funny because I didn’t see you jumping up to volunteer when I asked,” Trina said with a harsh smirk on her face. “In fact, I remember you sitting next to your friend here silently. Do you know what that makes you?”

“No?”

“That makes you spineless. I can’t have someone without a spine working this job. It had to be done properly,” Trina said and then she dropped her hold of his eyes and walked back to the front of the room. “This plan isn’t up for discussion. When I get the location of the drop off you will all be alerted and you will all be expected to show up for the heist. Some of you may get hurt. Some of you may die,” she said as though their lives meant nothing to her. “The important thing to remember though is that any person who had aided the heist will receive a share of the money. If you are hurt or killed, then we will respect our agreement and send your share to your next of kin. Any questions?” Trina finished speaking and looked out at the crowd.

Trina waited for a long minute, before she nodded her head to indicate that the meeting was over. She turned her attention away from the full room and back to her brother who had been standing quietly by her side.

“You did well,” he said approvingly.

“Thanks bro, I aim to please,” she said smiling at him. “Are we all set for tonight?”

“Everything’s ready,” her brother nodded quickly. “We just need to get you into position and we’re good to go.”

******

Trina felt nervous as she put one delicate red heel in front of the other. She didn’t let it show on her face though. She couldn’t have the other boys, sensing the nerves that she was feeling. They had to think that she was invincible. They had to think that she could kill them all with just one look. She stopped outside of the rotting wood door and took a deep breath. This wasn’t their territory. They were playing with fire just being there.

She flicked her long brown curls over her shoulder and then pushed the door open. It flew with the force she’d put behind it and crashed into the wall. Everyone in the bar turned around to look at her. She put on a sultry smile, as she walked into the room with her hips swaying from side to side. No one stopped her from walking over to the bar. “I’ll have a cold one,” she said to the bartender who looked over at Rob with questioning eyes.

“Go ahead, you can serve her,” Rob said with a small nod, before he walked over to Trina and took her hand, before kissing it gently. “I hope you have a really good reason for being here,” he said softly, but that softness was tainted with a stern underlying warning.

Trina pulled her hand back from him and smirked. “You better believe it,” she said to him, as she lifted up her big, blue eyes so that she could look him right in the eye. “I want in,” she said when his eyes met hers.

Rob’s eyes changed as she spoke. She could see the moment of surprise followed by shock and then mistrust. “And why would a girl like you, do a thing like that? Don’t try to fool me princess, I know exactly who you are and exactly who your brother is.”

“Well, I’m glad that I won’t have to waste time with introductions, then,” Trina said quickly, as she held her own in the conversation. “As for my brother,” she said and she wrinkled her nose in disgust, “I’m done with him. I’m done with him club and I’m done being treated like a little girl,” she said in a dead serious tone.

Rob took in the dangerous edge that her eyes held. He could tell that there was something more to what was going on, but he couldn’t deny that having her on his side wouldn’t be a bad thing. “What happened with your brother?”

“He killed someone who meant a lot to me,” Trina said as she tried to perfectly replicate the emotion of hurt on her face.

Rob nodded. “Well, we all play dangerous games.”

The door to the bar swung open and Trina quickly looked around to see who had come in. “Dominic?” She asked with her eyes full of worry. “What are you doing here?”

“I’ve come to take you home-you stupid whore,” Dominic said as he took huge strides across the room to where she was standing. He grabbed ahold of her arm and started to pull her roughly out of the bar.

“I’m not going with you,” she said as she struggled to break free from his grip.

“You’ll do as I tell you,” Dominic said with such rage in his voice that for a moment Trina froze and stopped fighting.

“I don’t think the lady wants to go with you,” Rob said from behind them.

“I don’t think it matters what you think,” Dominic spat at Rob, before turning his attentions back to his sister.

“Well, seen as though you’re on my territory I’d say that it does matter what I think and I think she’s going to stay here,” Rob said calmly, but the atmosphere dropped with her words.

“You really want her?” Dominic said, as he dropped his hand from Trina’s arm. “Then take her,” he said, as he brought his hand up quickly and smashed it into the side of her face. “She’s no use to me anymore anyways,” he grumbled, before walking out back out of the door.

Trina could still feel small aftershocks of pain running through her cheek, as a hot burning sensation started to run across her skin. Dominic had hit her harder than she had expected, but she knew that he’d had to make it look real. She cupped her cheek in her hand, as though it might somehow soothe the pain, as she turned back around to Dominic who was still standing beside her.

“You’re going to need some ice for that,” he said, as he walked over and helped Trina back over to the bar.

“Listen, I need somewhere safe to stay. I’m not used to being on my own. If you can offer me some shelter, maybe some protection, then I’ll tell you anything you want to know about my brother’s club.”

“You don’t feel bad about betraying your brother?” Rob asked with suspicion in his eyes.

“He’s no brother of mine,” Trina said bitterly and with the aid of her still hurting face, she pulled a look, which she knew Rob believed.

“I’m sure we can arrange that then,” Rob said. He knew the deal was too good to pass down, even if he wasn’t sure whether he could trust her. What damage could she do anyway? It wasn’t like he was going to share the Snakes Fangs secrets in return.

“Thank you,” Trina said, as she smiled at him and ran her hand over the top of his. “It really means a lot to me.”

“Come on, we better get you cleaned up,” Rob said after a moment’s thought. He pushed himself up off of the barstool and held his hand out for Trina, so that she could do the same.

“Where are we going?” She asked him, as she tried to keep up with his quick pace.

“Back to mine, trust me, you don’t want to stay with any of the other guys,” he said casually, as he stopped in front of a black Harley motorcycle that was embellished with beautiful, well-polished chrome.

******

Rob’s place was much nicer than Trina had been expecting. He’d obviously spent a lot of money on it. The wallpaper looked like it was made of velvet. The warm creams and browns in the pattern matched with the big L shaped couch that was in the middle who the huge living space. He had floor to ceiling windows on one side of the room that gave a spectacular view of the city and from the feel of it heated flooring as well.

“Wow,” Trina said, because she couldn’t help herself. “This place is off the hook,” she continued, as her eyes glanced at the door, which she assumed led on to his room.

“It took a while, but it’s finally getting to look how I want it,” Rob said with a pleased look on his face. “I mean I know that we’re all expected to live in hovels and most of my guys do, but what can I say? I like to come home and feel comfortable.”

“Yeah, I get that,” Trina said as she nodded along to his words. “I mean me and my brother lived in a pit. I tried to keep it clean and whatever, but when you can only do so much.”

“Do you want to sit down and I’ll get us some beer or something?” Rob said as he looked kind of awkwardly at Trina.

“Sure.” Trina watched as Rob walked off and then she turned her attention back to the view that was unmissable. She sat back on the big sofa and tried to think of a time that she’d been so comfortable. She couldn’t. She’d spent her whole life in dingy bars and damp infested apartments. Rob’s place was nothing like what she was used to. It even smelled fancy, although she couldn’t work out exactly what the smell was, money, perhaps?

“Here,” Rob said, as he walked back into the room and passed over a cold bottle to Trina. “So, you know I’ve got to ask. What actually happened between you and your brother? I know you told me that he’d killed someone you cared for, but we both know there is more to the story than just that.”

“You know --curiosity killed the cat,” Trina said playfully, but she could feel the danger flashing in her eyes, as she spoke.

“Well, then the cat was too easy to kill,” Rob said, as he leaned a little further towards her on the couch.

“I suppose you might be right,” Trina said with a little tilt of her head. “What do you want to know?”

“Well, why did your brother kill someone you cared about?”

Trina sighed and she let a sad look wash over her face. She’d got the story all ready. Trina practiced it a hundred times in front of the mirror, but this was the live show and she could feel butterflies starting to frantically flap their wings in her stomach. “He was jealous I think. I mean I’d been dating Sammy for a few months and things were getting real serious, you know? My brother didn’t like it. He liked his dinner being on the table when he got back home and he wasn’t getting it because I was always with Sammy. So, he shot him.”

“He killed him because he wanted his dinner on the table?” Rob asked with actual surprise in his eyes. “No wonder you wanted to get away from him. Your brother is a whack job.”

“Everybody in our club knows it,” she nodded, as though she agreed with what Rob had just called her brother. “They’re all just too afraid to elect someone else as their leader.”

“That’s messed up.” Rob shook his head. “So were you like in love with this Sammy then?” He asked her out of morbid curiosity. He couldn’t help himself. He couldn’t deny that Trina was a beautiful woman. Her body was slim, but curvy. Her breasts were big and perky. Her blue eyes sparkled with danger and her brown hair bounced as though it had a life of its own. She was in most respects the perfect woman and the fact that she’d been born into the hard world that they shared only made her more irresistible. Rob was after all only human and she would be staying in very close proximity to him until she ran out of use.

“I guess so; I mean I don’t really know. We were only together for a few months. I think I could have loved him. That’s what hurts the most. I could have loved this awesome, sweet guy who really cared about me, but then my brother took it all away. He forced me to stay by his side and I just couldn’t. I couldn’t be his slave anymore like everybody else; I had to get out of here.”

“What made you think that the Snake Fangs would be a good place to go?” He asked her because that was the question that was really troubling him. He could understand her wanting to get away from her brother. He could understand the fact that she needed to do it, as she’d done in secret, but he couldn’t understand why she chose to go to him. It didn’t make sense. Surely she knew that would anger her brother above anything else than she might have done.

“I’m a smart girl I guess,” Trina said with a little, casual shrug. “I knew that I had the information you want and this would be the safest place for me until that information dries out.”

The matter of fact way that she spoke made Rob flinch, he hadn’t considered the fact that she’d already worked out that he was keeping her around because she might be useful or that he might dispose of her when then that stopped being the case, but she had. “And what do you think will happen to you when it does dry out?” He asked her with his eyes fixed on hers.

“I think that you’ll try to get rid of me and then you’ll see just how useful I could have really been to you,” Trina said in a half whisper that came out sexy and deep.

******

A week had passed since Trina had moved in with Rob and she still hadn’t learned anything about the drop off. She was starting to get frustrated with it all. She’d shared with Rob. She’d told him almost everything that he’d wanted to know, but he still didn’t trust her and she was starting to feel unsure about whether he would, before the drop off was made.

Rob was allowing her into the Snake Fangs bar, though, and she’d done well with learning many small details about their operation that would come in handy once she was home. It felt strange to Trina that she would soon be going back to her brother, even though she had always known that it would end up that way.

There was still a strange feeling of dread that sat at the bottom of her stomach though, whenever she thought about saying goodbye to Rob and the new life she had created for herself. It wasn’t that she didn’t miss her brother. It was just that Rob was so much nicer to her and his place was so much nicer. He seemed to be living the life that Trina had always wanted and she had to remind herself that the heist would enable her to have all of what Rob had and more.

“Do you know where Rob is?” Trina asked one of the drunks who was sitting at the bar, slouched over his beer.

“He went that way,” the drunk said as he gestured down a long corridor that led off from the main bar.

“Thanks,” Trina said, as she pushed a few dollars over to him, so that he could get himself another. “Enjoy.”

She walked off from the bar and down into the corridor. It was nearly pitch black, although it was still daytime outside. She realized though that all the windows had been boarded up and the walls had been painted black, as though it wasn’t hard enough already to see. She stopped when she heard voices from behind a door and she knocked quickly, before walking in without waiting to be invited.

“What is she doing here?” A gruff voice asked from the back of the smoke filled room. “I’m not discussing this in front of her. You know how I feel about all of this. It’s dodgy Rob and you know it. Look at her. She’s honey dicking you.”

“Honey dicking me?” Rob asked, as his eyebrows lifted with surprised.

“Oh come on, a tall, beautiful woman walks into the bar.  She takes a quick slap and suddenly the leader of the Snake Fangs is offering her refuge. Like that wasn’t the plan all along,” the gruff voice said in an agitated way.

Trina looked at the guy and then back to Rob. Rob looked like he was thinking about what the guy had just said. She could see his brain processing the information and trying to work out whether it was right or not. She wasn’t sure what to do. The guy had gotten everything right. He’d explained the situation down to every last detail, but she couldn’t let the rest of them realize it.

“I’m sorry who even are you?” She snapped at him. She could feel every eye in the room turn to her in surprise, as her voice cut through the air with servility. “What? You think you can just accuse me of something and I’m not going to defend myself?” She asked the guy directly. “Dumbass,” she added before she turned her attention to Rob and Rob alone. “You don’t seriously believe this do you? Do you know what kind of risk I’m running sharing my brother’s secrets with you? Have you any idea how much I want to see my brother getting pulled away from that little imaginary throne he loves so much? If you’re not willing to trust me, then I’ll somewhere else. You’re not the only club who wants to see my brother get taken down.”

Rob was looking her in the eyes. He could tell that she meant it. He could tell that she was ready to walk out of the door and disappear. He couldn’t let that happen. His brain tried to reason with him that she still had information to give, but he knew that wasn’t the reason why. He knew that the real reason why he couldn’t watch her leave was because he needed her to stay, he needed her. “Take a seat,” he said, as he gestured for Trina to take her place at the table.

“Are you joking? Is this actually a joke?” the gruff voice said, as though he couldn’t believe what his eyes were showing to him.

Trina looked him over. She let her eyes examine every particle of his being. He was a typical middle aged, beer gutted bloke. His chin was covered with a dark brown beard that he’d trimmed into a point and his jacket had patches sewn all over it with delicate little stitches that must have been made by his mother or his wife maybe.

“This isn’t a joke Johnathan,” Rob said and his voice was cold.

Trina could tell from Rob’s reaction that he didn’t like his authority questioned and now that she was in his inner circle it wouldn’t be her problem, but theirs if they kicked up a fuss.

“We’ve got people in this club who have been with us for years that we don’t trust with the big stuff, but you want to bring in the rival’s sister after knowing her for a week? I’m sorry Rob if you can’t see the joke in that then you’re blind.”

“Does anybody else feel like this?” Rob asked the room. His question was met with nothing but silence, as every face fell anxious in the wake of their boss’ anger. “Good,” he continued, as he turned to look at Johnathan directly. “If you have a problem with this, then I suggest you drop out of the gig. I’ve told Trina to sit down and that means she’s in. I will not be questioned again.” Rob’s voice was the perfect balance between ice and sharp metal.

******

Trina had the information she needed. She’d had it since the day of the meeting, but she hadn’t told Dominic yet. She knew that when she did then all of it would be over. She knew that she’d have to say goodbye to Rob and the weird little dynamic that they shared together. She wasn’t ready. She kept trying to deny the reasoning to herself, but that didn’t matter because the result was still the same, she wasn’t ready to go.

She walked over to the small mirror that was balanced on a pile of books. Rob had asked for her to stay in with him. He’d mentioned something about cooking dinner and she couldn’t help, but wonder whether he was thinking about it, as a date.

She took in her reflection. She looked good. Her bright red lumps looked plump and ready for action. Her hair was shiny and she couldn’t see any strays frizzing about the place. Her skin was even looking a little better than it normally did, but she imagined that was down to the amazing shower that he’d had fitted that sent water cascading down her body like a waterfall.

The front door to the apartment opened and she smiled at herself in the mirror, before she took off out of her little room. Rob was already in the living area when she walked in. “Hey,” she said quickly, as she tried to control the urge to smile at him.

“Hey,” Rob said and his eyes met hers for a moment, before he dropped them quickly to the floor. “So, I thought since I kind of like you and I don’t want to see you get poisoned that I’d order in instead of cooking? I mean it’s probably for the best,” he said in a way that made Trina believe that he was feeling nervous over their plans.

“Sure, I’d rather not die,” she said and then she laughed at how serious Rob was looking over her comment. “It’s all gravy,” she said with a smile, before she took a seat on the couch. “Can I ask you something though?”

“Sure.”

“What is this? I mean like are you considering this a date?” She asked him as though it was no big deal, but she could feel her cheeks deceiving her cool composure as they started to burn.

“Well, if you’d be alright with that,” Rob said, as his eyes met hers. He felt stupid for not making it clear to her before. He should have made sure that she knew it was date. What if she didn’t want a date and he’d just made everything awkward?

“Cool,” Trina said with a little nod that put all of Rob’s worries to shame.

Rob ordered the food and Trina brought a few beers from the fridge and then they both found themselves sitting on the couch, as they tried to find a way to break the awkward ice that had seemed to have developed between them.

“Are you nervous about the drop off?” Trina asked eventually, so that at least something had been said.

“No, not really,” Rob answered her quickly. He looked relieved that the silence had finally been broken. “I mean it’s a big job, but my men can handle it.”

A knock on the door played through the apartment and Rob went to answer the door. After Trina’s initial question the conversation started flowing and without realizing it, Trina was starting to have the best time. Rob was funny, sweet and impossibly hot. He didn’t look like he belonged to the world that he did. He looked like he belonged on a runway show. His abs were tight, his skin tanned and his hazel coloured eyes had the depth of melted chocolate.

Trina wasn’t sure who started it. They’d both had a few too many beers and the laughter had been loud. They kissed though. Rob’s hot little mouth pressed against her cherry red lips, as she slipped out her tongue and started to play with his. The kiss was packed with urgency though too. It was like from the moment it started they both knew that it couldn’t end there.

Trina’s hands were running all over Rob’s body. She was letting her fingers trace the line of his abs, until her fingers had sunk low onto his waistline. She could feel Rob’s hands, as they pulled off her shirt and then ran down her bare back as her breasts became exposed for him to see. He brought his hands round to them and cupped them for a moment. He let his fingers slide over her hardening nipples, until she was almost begging him to fuck her.

He let his hands fall to the line of her jeans and then he fumbled with the button until it popped open. He let his hand slide down into her panties, enjoying the hot, wet feeling that was covering his fingers. She slid his fingers into her and felt her back arch in satisfaction. He could feel her nails digging into his back, as he lowered his jeans and then thrust into her with such a hardness that she cried out. He was throbbing inside of her.

Trina rolled off Rob and onto her back, so that she could catch her breath. She’d had plenty of sex in her life. Sex was something she enjoyed doing, but she’d never had sex like that before. She’d never felt her body connect to a person the way it had with Rob’s. It had been like every movement he made had been perfectly aligned with her pleasure. It had been perfect and it had made leaving Rob ten times harder than it had seemed before it’d happened.

******

The drop off was only two days away and Trina was starting to feel the pressure. Her brother had been messaging her for days, but she hadn’t answered any of his texts. She knew that if she let any more time pass that her brother would start to grow suspicious, but even that thought couldn’t force her into sending the message that seemed impossible to write.

She had gone into this plan with a straight head. She was going to find out the location of the drop and then she was going to walk away with half of the money. It couldn’t have been any simpler, so how had she messed up so badly? How had she managed to fall for Rob? When had she let her defences down enough for that to happen? She didn’t know, but the one thing she did know with certainty was that she didn’t want to betray him.

She could feel the weight of her stress, as it sat on her shoulders. It was making her feel ill. She was waking up in the morning and spending half an hour next to the toilet. In a way she couldn’t wait for it all to end just so she could stop feeling so crappy. It didn’t occur to her, of course, that she might be pregnant, until she’d gone to the bar and saw the tampon machine in the bathroom. It was only then that she realized that her period had been due a few days before.

The realization almost crushed her. It made the impossible decision she had to make, so much harder than it had already been. She half wanted to just ignore the possibility until it either went away or didn’t, but she knew she couldn’t do that. She knew she needed to know for sure one way or another because if she was pregnant, then she wasn’t only, deceiving the man that she was pretty sure she loved, but also the father to her baby.

She’d grown up with her brother. Her brother had been everything to her and he’d taught her more than she could have ever hoped for, but her loyalty was wavering. She found the closest chemist and bought a pregnancy test. She made sure that it was well wrapped up in the brown paper bagged, before she stepped back out onto the sidewalk and then she headed for Rob’s place, so she could know for certain what was happening.

She sat with the stick between her legs and waited for the pee to come. She tried to push with all the force that she had, but it wasn’t coming out. She’d drunk a bottle of water a half an hour before to make sure that she would need to pee, but it hadn’t worked. Her nerves were on edge and because of that they’d put a blocker on her bladder. She sighed with relief when she finally felt the first drops of pee leave her and then she put the test on the white marble side, as she cleaned herself up.

She’d checked the packet before she’d gone into the room, but she couldn’t help but scan over the instructions again to make sure that she had everything right in her head. The test would take three minutes, before she could check the results. She paced the room willing the second hand on her watch to tick by quicker, as she waited.

It got to thirty seconds; before she could check to see what the test said when she was disturbed by a loud knocking at the front door. She glanced at the test and then to the bathroom door, as though she was torn between which one to give her attention to, but the knocking at the door persisted and the test couldn’t speak for itself, so she turned away from it and went to see who it was that obviously couldn’t wait a minute.

She opened the door with an annoyed look on her face over being disturbed. “Johnathan, what are you doing here?” She asked in distain, when she realized that it was the man who had stood against her at the meeting who was standing on the other side of Rob’s door.

“Oh, I’ve just found something out that’s really interesting,” Johnathan said in a taunting voice that made Trina’s stomach sink. “You see; I’ve never bought that little sob story you came here with. You know the one where you said your brother killed that little boyfriend of yours? So, well, I thought I’d do some digging.” The look in his eyes was one of glee and Trina could tell that whatever he had found wasn’t going to be good for her. “I went to see an old friend. He runs with your brother’s lot you see. We keep the friendship on the down low because, well, I’m sure you get it,” he continued, as enjoyed prolonging the big reveal. “And, well, you see my friend seems to be under the impression that you’ve been working undercover, that you didn’t in fact fall out with your brother at all, it was all just a little scheme, so that you could try and disrupt the drop off.”

“I’d like to see you prove it,” Trina said as she stared right into his eyes. She could tell from his gestures that he was trying to make her afraid, but she’d taken on much bigger, worse men than him and come out to tell the tale afterwards.

“I don’t need to prove it. I just need to make sure that Rob believes it,” he said with a nasty sneer.

******

Trina walked down the dark sidewalk quickly, checking behind her as she went. Johnathan had left the apartment nearly an hour ago and she was sure that he’d be with Rob at that very moment telling him everything. She’d had no other choice. She’d had to go. She took a quick turn off from the sidewalk and walked over to a poorly lit bar that didn’t look open.

She knew it was open, though. She’d already text her brother and asked him to meet her there. There had been no other option. She had to make sure that she was protected by somebody and Rob would be gunning for her once he realized the truth. The situation that she was in was tight and she could feel her back being pushed firmly against the wall.

“Brother,” she said as she threw her arms around his neck.

“Trina, I’ve been worried about you.”

“I’m sorry that I went so quiet. I had to make sure that nobody caught on to what was really happening.”

“I understand. Did you find out what we needed to know?” He asked Trina with eyes that were fixed onto her face, so that she couldn’t lie.

She thought about her answer. It was in this moment of pause that Dominic realized that something wasn’t right. “I did find out what we needed to know, but I’m unsure whether or not we should go through with our plan,” she said carefully, as she tried to push her brother away from the idea that they had created together.

“You want to walk away from half a million dollars?” He asked her. “I hope you have a mighty fine reason for that,” he continued, as he leaned over to his sister and waited for an explanation.

“He’s got a lot of men on this. I mean a lot more than we thought. It’s going to be dangerous and I think we’ll end up losing more men than walk out.”

“So?”

“Don’t you think it’s wrong to lead our club, the people who follow us no questions asked into a fight that we know we can’t win?”

“First of all Trina the only way we know we won’t win, is if we don’t try and secondly, my club doesn’t follow us, they follow me. You’re best remembering that,” he said with so much warning in his undertone that Trina actually found herself wondering what he might do if she didn’t.

“I was only telling you my opinion, you’re welcome to do as you see fit,” she said, as she shifted a little on the barstool she had sat down on.

“Good, well now that is sorted we should go back and tell the others the good news,” her brother said as he stood up and grabbed her roughly by the arm.

She winced under the tightness of his grasp, but she didn’t struggle away from it. Her brother was acting oddly and she always knew that meant trouble. They drove back in silence as the wind whipped through Trina’s hair and she watched the world pass her in a blur.

The bar hadn’t changed in the weeks she’d been gone. It was still dank and dirty. She walked into the room with her head held high, as the club members turned around to look at her. She could hear a small gust of whispers surrounding her, as she started to walk over to the bar, but she ignored them.

“I’m sure you all know where my sister has been these last few weeks. I’m pleased to tell you that she’s got the location of the drop off and we’ll be heading out there tomorrow night,” her brother said cheerfully to the rest of the room when he’d joined her at the bar.

The room became full of happy murmurs, as the club talked over the news. It was going to be the biggest heist they’d ever done. It was going to be worth more money than had ever run through their hands before. It was big.

“There is one little problem though,” Dominic said, when he’d grown tired of waiting for the room to quieten down. “You see, I think we have a traitor in our midst,” he continued, as he looked around the room at each who was sitting within it. “We all know that we can’t allow traitors to roll with us. We need trust if this club is ever going to work, don’t we?” He asked the room and was met with mumbles of agreeance. “Good,” he said when the rest of the room had agreed with him. “So, what are we going to do with you-sis?” He asked, as he turned to look at Trina with cold eyes.

“Me?” Trina almost choked on her words. “You think I’m a traitor?”

“I think you could be and that’s close enough for me. You don’t think I didn’t know what you were getting into when you were with the Snake Fangs? You don’t think I know how much time you were spending with Rob? I know your loyalties are divided and I can’t let that continue.”

Trina looked at her brother right in the eye. If there was any man on earth that she feared, then it was him, but she wasn’t about to let that show. “You wrong brother,” she said as she tried to hold her voice steady.

“I really wish I was,” Dominic said, before he pulled his arm back and sent his fist flying into Trina’s face.

She felt pain. Red hot pain, as his fist struck against her cheek and then nothing. There was nothing, only blackness as she sank into a beautiful unconsciousness where nobody could reach her and nobody could touch her.

******

Trina woke up and looked around her. Her head was thumping with pain from where her brother had hit her and she felt dizzy. She tried to work out where she was, but there was nothing in the room that she recognized. There wasn’t really anything in the room at all. All she could see were four gray walls and the bed that she had been laid on.

She pushed herself up from the hard mattress and walked over to the door. She could hear the light rasp of someone breathing on the other side and she hit her fists against the solid wood in the hopes that whoever was on the other side would explain to her what was happening.

She stood back when the door opened. She recognized the man who was standing in front of her, but she didn’t know his name. He was the one who’d spoken up in the bar about her share. He was the one that she had slammed with her words and nothing else. He was the one who was standing in front of her with a dirty sneer spread across his cracked lips.

“You know, when I talked to my friend about you, I didn’t actually think you’d be stupid enough to come back here,” he said, as he walked into the room and closed the door behind him. “You see, he came to ask me about you because he didn’t believe your little story. Hardly surprising really because let’s face it, you really aren’t an actress are you.” He stopped speaking and reached over to Trina’s hair, so that he could brush it back behind her ear. “You sure are pretty though,” he said, as a wildness flashed into his eyes that spelled out trouble.

Trina looked behind him at the door, which he hadn’t locked. She had no chance of making a dash for it. She looked at the man standing in front of her. He was bigger than her, but his overhanging gut told her that his reaction speeds wouldn’t match up to hers. She waited for him to step closer. She waited until she could feel his slimy breath against the skin on her neck and then she pushed the palm of her hand hard into his nose, until she felt the thick rush of blood pouring out.

She dodged under his swipe, as he tried to stop her from getting to the door and then she ran. She still had no idea where she was. The hallway was dark and none of the doors looked like exits to the building. She reached the end of the hallway and her heart was hammering against her chest. She could barely breathe with anxiety, as she realized that footsteps were quickly approaching her. She had no other option than to go into the door closest to her. She pushed on the handle and found that it was unlocked to her relief.

She stepped into the brightly lit room and for a moment she couldn’t see anything. She felt as though she’d been temporally blinded just as she was desperate to see. She waited for the lights to stop burning her eyes and then she looked around the room she had just gone into. It was a storage room. She could tell from the towering shelving units that ran down the huge space.

“Where do you think you’re going?” Dominic called out from the other side of the room.

“What are you doing Dominic? This is crazy. I’m your sister. Have you gone mad?” Trina asked him in a desperate attempt to make him see what he was doing.

“You know at first I thought I’d gone mad. You know, when I saw you getting your dirty little rocks off with Rob, but then I realized that I should have known.”

“You should have known what?” Trina asked him with a confused look of hurt on her face.

“That you’d been the dirty little skank that you are. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Rob’s a good looking guy, I get why you did it, but then to betray your family? To betray you’re only living blood family for someone you met a few weeks ago? That’s something I don’t understand.”

“Of course you don’t,” Trina spat at him. “You don’t understand anything that isn’t about domination. That’s all you care about. You can give me every speech in the book about family, but you’re the one who sent your little sister into the heart of the enemy just to earn a quick buck. Your only reason for loving me is because I’m useful to you.”

“That’s not true.”

“Isn’t it? Because do you know what. The moment I stopped being useful, you called me a traitor and you hit me in the fucking face. That’s messed up brother, even by your standards.”

“I had to do that to get you here,” Dominic said quickly. “I’ve decided that I’m going to make this real easy on you, you see. Because I was thinking after I realized that your loyalty was with the pretty boy of things I could do to change that. You are my sister after all and regardless of what you might think, I do love you. And do you know what is it that I thought?” He asked with a self-appreciating look in his eyes.

“What did you think?” Trina asked him as she held his eyes with her own.

“I thought it would be really fun to get Rob out here. I thought we could have a little chat about everything that’s happened and about all of your lies. You know, clear the air. Because, I mean, let’s face it, he’s not going to want you after that. Is he?”

“You need to leave Rob out of this,” Trina said and she couldn’t hide the sadness from her face.

“Don’t start crying on me now,” Dominic mocked her cruelly. “You don’t need to worry about your precious Rob; I promise I’m not going to do anything to him,” Dominic said in a sly voice that implied that there was more to what he was saying than just the words that were coming out of his mouth.

******

A sharp knock at the door sent chills running down Trina’s spine. She knew without even having to see that it was Rob standing on the other side of the door. Dominic stood up quickly from the small metal table that had been placed in the middle of the large storage room. He walked over to the door and opened it with a cruel smile on his face. “Well, if it isn’t Rob, why don’t you come in? You are after all my future brother in law right?”

Rob didn’t say anything. He didn’t even look at Dominic. His eyes glazed right over him and over to Trina who was still sitting at the table. Her eyes were fixed on him from across the room. She could tell from the look in his eyes that he knew about her lies. She could tell from the way that he was looking at her as though she was almost a stranger to him.

Rob and Dominic walked over to the table and took their seats. Trina watched, as Dominic eagerly glanced between her and Rob, as though he couldn’t wait for the show to start.

“I’m so sorry about all of this Rob,” Trina started and then stopped when her brother’s cruel laughter rang through the air.

“She isn’t sorry. She’s only sorry she’s been caught,” Dominic said snidely. “You see, that’s the thing about my sister. She likes to have everything her own way. Only life doesn’t always work out like that, does it?” He asked as he tilted his head and his eyes over to Trina. “I’m sure though you’re wondering why it is that I’ve asked you here today.”

“I can’t say that it hasn’t crossed my mind,” Rob said in a low voice that cut across the atmosphere that sat between them.

“Well, first of all -I want you to know that my little sister told me everything. She told me about the drop off location and I’ve got men there now.”

“That’s strange,” Rob said with a small frown, “Because my men are there now too and they haven’t reported any problems picking up the goods.”

Dominic’s eyes dashed over to his sister. Trina could feel the anger burning into her skin from them, as he refused to move his gaze off her. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, as she realized that her last deception had been uncovered.

“It seems that your sister might not have betrayed me in the way that you thought,” Rob said as he smirked over the table at Dominic.

“Is this true?” Dominic asked Trina was a voice soaked in hatred. “Have you lied to me? Have you sent our men to the wrong place? What in the hell is wrong with you girl?” He asked, as his voice steadily got higher and more menacing.

“I told you that the plan was over, but you didn’t listen. You gave me no choice brother.”

“How can you sit there and call me your brother when you have done this to us?” Dominic asked her as he looked at her in utter shock. “This can’t be happening. My own sister had betrayed me for some piece of dick. This is ridiculous.”

Trina let her eyes glance over to Rob, who was watching her intently. She tried to tell him how sorry she was without speaking, but she wasn’t sure whether he was getting the message. A loud slam on the table brought her attention back to her brother, as he lifted his hands and placed one of them in his pocket. Trina’s eyes opened with horror, as she realized that he was pulling out his gun.

“This just won’t do. I won’t have this. I won’t have my sister betray me like this,” he said as he shook his head. “Here,” he said, as he pushed it over to him. “Shoot him, or I will.”

Trina looked down at the gun, which he had pushed across the table. It was a black, matte finish hand pistol. She’d used one just like it a hundred times before and without even realizing it, she picked it up. It felt heavy in her hands and metal was cool against her skin, as she straightened it up.

“What are you waiting for? I told you to shoot him,” her brother exploded and she watched, as he reached into his other pocket.

In the space of three seconds everything happened. It was like time had slowed down, so that she was able to think clearly through the madness. She could see her brother’s hand reaching for his second gun. She could see the look of panic in Rob’s eyes, as he realized that he was the only person in the room without a gun in his hand.

She made the choice without even thinking. She knew in her heart there was only one thing to do. She turned the gun quickly, as time sped back up to its normal rate and then she pulled the trigger. For a moment all that she could think about was the booming crack of the explosion as the bullet left the gun, but then that thought was pushed far from her mind, as her eyes fell onto her brother who was lying in a pool of thick, red blood that was pooling out from his chest.

“I’m so sorry brother, but you made me choose,” Trina said, as she fell to her knees and took her brother’s hand in her own. “I love you,” she whispered to him, as she watched the last glimmer of life fall into the shadows of his unfocused eyes.

“Trina,” Rob said from behind her and she jumped.

She’d forgotten that he was there. “Rob,” she said, but then she stopped because deep sobs had started to roll from her chest and she could do nothing other than shake as they rolled out of her.

“Trina, I saw the test,” Rob said gently as he pulled her into his chest and held her tightly. “I know that you’re pregnant.”

“I’m pregnant?” Trina asked, as she stepped away from Rob, so that she could look up into her eyes. She’d forgotten about the test. She’d forgotten about being late on her period. There had just been so much going on. Her hand lifted up to her stomach and she held it there, as she realized what it meant. “Are you going to forgive me for what I did?” She asked Rob, as she suddenly realized that she might have to raise the baby on her own.

“Can I forgive you for ultimately betraying your brother for me? Yes, I think so,” he said softly, as he reached out and pulled her chin upwards, so that he could kiss her cherry red lips.
