The Librarian (The Rulers of Darkness MC Book 1) by Belle Winters (6)

Psycho

“Mr. Mercado, this is Ms. Fields, Addilyn’s teacher.” The voice on the other end of line said.

I tensed. “It’s me, is everything alright? Is she ok?” I asked.

“She is fine; I would just like it if you can meet with me today afterschool to discuss how your daughter is doing in school.” She said.

I frowned. “Ok.”

Her disgustingly cheery voice responded, “Great, thanks. I’ll see you later today.”

I stared down at the phone after she’d hung up and then turned my attention to Tank, my right hand. “I have to go to Addie’s school to meet with her teacher.” I told him.

He frowned. “Why?”

I shrugged. “Fuck if I know. This parenting shit can be such a mind fuck.”

“Are you going to meet the bitch?” he asked.

I glared at him after that stupid ass question. “The fuck do you think?”

He held his hands up. “Hey, I was just asking… You gonna call her momma to go with you?” he asked snickering.

The fuck. “Stop fucking with me before I go upside your fucking head.”

The bastard just laughs harder. “Why the fuck you mad at me? You’re the one doing this whole joint custody big happy family shit. I think it’s sweet.”

I grunted and pushed up from my chair harshly. “Eat dick.”  I muttered before stomping off.

I waited until I was back in my room before I dialed Siarra’s number. I was pissed off at her even though it wasn’t her fault that my men were stupid dicks. They learned about her from Addie and have been giving me hell about her ever since.

She answered the phone on the third ring. “Hello?”

“Will you be able to get off of work early?” I asked cutting to the chase.

“No one called out today, so I shouldn’t have an issue. Did you need me to pick up Addie?” she asked.

“Nah, her teacher called and said she wanted to meet with me after school. I want you to go too.”

No hesitation. “Ok, I’ll meet you there.” She confirmed, and I hung up.

This little woman is making me crazy. That smart-ass mouth with her comments, those big eyes of hers usually behind those geeky fucking glasses. I’m usually stuck somewhere between strangling her and fucking her into submission. Some days I’m afraid she’s gonna push me too fucking far and one of those are going to win out.

It wasn’t long before I found myself walking down the halls in Addie’s school towards her classroom. The place looked deserted, almost as if once 2:30 hit everyone ran out of the building.

I made my way to the end of the hall and rapped on the door once before letting myself in. Her teacher was moving about the classroom putting things away, and Addie was sitting in a seat in the front of the class coloring. I walked over to Addie and leaned back against the desk next to her as I looked over at her picture. She was making a dog.

Addie looked up. “Hi Sy.” She greeted me. Something was definitely wrong, she wasn’t her usual happy the day is over self.

“Hey Addie, what’s going on?” I asked.

Before she could answer her teacher appeared. She held out her hand, “It’s nice to meet you. I’m Ms. Fields.”

I took her hand in mine and gave it a firm shake as the door opened and closed. I looked up to Siarra coming into the room with a flushed face, she must’ve rushed here.

She was wearing a plain black shiny pair of sensible lace-up shoes, a loose pair of navy blue corduroys, an equally loose blue and white button up shirt – literally to the last button – and a pair of suspenders with I’m sure were actually holding up her pants. Her honey colored hair was piled up in a messy ponytail on top of head and her aqua blue eyes were hiding behind those damn huge plain black glasses. I couldn’t help but crack a small smile. Every time I see her outside of her pajamas at her place I can’t help but note every small detail of her outfits. She was such a fucking dork, but she was adorable.

She walked right over to where we were standing, and stopped to look over Addie’s shoulder to see the picture. I turned my attention back to Ms. Fields and she didn’t even seem to notice that Sia was there. She was practically eye fucking me, face flushed like she was getting wet at the thought, and two buttons from her shirt had magically become undone.

Siarra cleared her throat and I returned my attention to her. She was glaring, nose twitching… ah, my little librarian was pissed. She had the whole Samantha the witch thing with her nose when she was mad. I don’t even think she realized it.

The teacher must’ve been lost in thought because still… nothing. I usually don’t get bothered by female attention, it happens damn near every minute. I ain’t being conceited but that’s fact. I know how the fuck I look, the tat’s, the muscles… and shit yeah, I’m a little fucking cocky but I worked for the way I look. Not to mention I am who the fuck I am. The fucking Prez that everybody respects, people ain’t bold enough to fucking cross me. Except this little fucking heffa. Fucking surprising as hell because even for her curves the girl is fucking itty compared to me. I could snap her ass like a twig with no effort.

“Ms. Fields, this is Siarra.” I said getting her attention.

Her eyes snapped back up to meet mine and she slowly turned her attention to Siarra. Her expression immediately becoming bored then amused as she took her in. “Hi, I’m Addilyn’s teacher Ms. Fields. Who may you be?”

“I’m Siarra, a friend.” She said.

Ms. Fields practically sneered at her before turning her attention back to me. “What did you need to talk about?” I asked. I didn’t like how she was acting towards Sia and was ready to get the fuck out of here.

She cleared her throat and went to take her seat behind her desk and made a motion that I do the same. She began sorting through papers on her desk before folding her hands on her desk. “Mr. Mercado, I called you in – “She began and was cut-off.

“Mercado?” Sia said snickering.

I rolled my eyes. Barely anyone knew my actual name, but it was something I had to give to the school.  “Yes Siarra. You think Sabatini is any better?”

She gasped. “How do you know my last name, and as a matter of fact I think my last name is awesome thank you very much.”

I narrowed my eyes at her. “Stop being a child Sia.”

This bitch had the audacity to look over at me, wink, and stick her tongue out at me. I’m going to cut that shit out of her mouth when this is over. Ms. Fields cleared her throat and shot daggers at Siarra, “Do you mind if we continue?”

Sia’s eyes narrowed but she didn’t respond so Ms. Fields continued. “It would appear that Addie is having trouble keeping up and fitting in.”

I frowned. “What do you mean?”

She looked down at her desk and picked up a few papers and walked them over to me. I looked down at the tests in surprise to see that the scores were low and most of the answers wrong. Ms. Fields began talking again, “She’s struggling the most in reading and writing.”

I frowned and Siarra practically jumped out of her seat. “That can’t possibly be right.”

Ms. Fields frowned. “I’m sorry, but the test shows – “

“I don’t care what the test shows. She’s read numerous college level books, there’s no way that could be her worse subject. What do you have them reading?” she demanded.

Ms. Fields looked highly offended. “They’re reading “The ape that escaped by Billy Joe.”

Siarra’s eyes went wide and her mouth hung open. “You have got to be shitting me? No wonder she’s not doing well, that book is crap. What are you thinking? And you call yourself a teacher!”

Oh shit. I could only stare at her for a few seconds, had she just cursed? I should’ve seen this coming. Siarra had a tendency to lose her head when it came to Addie.

Ms. Fields hands flew to her hips. “Excuse me? I’m sorry friend but I don’t think it’s appropriate that you – “

Sia was on her in a second. “No, what I don’t think is appropriate is that fact that you have a teaching degree! Maybe if you stop imagining dry humping the parents then you would do a better job with the kids. Is she really doing bad or did you just want her daddy to show up?” She’d caught that too huh.

Fuck, I jumped out of my seat. Sia was steaming and she looked about ready to swing. I never saw her want to kill anyone else but me.  I wrapped an arm around her waist pulling her back into me. Christ, she was fucking tiny. Her head landing against my chest. She wasn’t even up to my chin.

“I think that you need to leave.” Ms. Fields directed at Sia.

She scoffed, and she tried to go back towards the teacher. And I thought I was a fucking hot head. “Easy tiger.” I said flattening my palm against her stomach securing her, so her back was flush against my front tightly. I turned my attention to the teacher. “She has every right to be here. She takes care of Addie too.”

Ms. Fields eyebrows flew up. “You’re seeing her?” she asked me.

Who the fuck? Did she just question me? “And that’s your business because?” my little fire ant answered.

Wait, she’s not my anything… get it together Psycho.

“Look, I think we’re a tad bit off topic here...” I began trying to defuse the situation. They both looked like they ready to throw down right then and there. “You wanted to discuss Addie’s work. But, there’s something not right about what you’re telling us. Reading can’t possibly be her worst subject – “

“She excels at it!” Sia chimed in.

I reached up and wrapped my free hand around her mouth and put gentle pressure on her stomach. She tried to speak but it came out muffled. “Alright you little hell cat, I think I’ve got this alright. Just stand here and look cute.” I began to remove my mouth and I heard her voice immediately, I covered it right back up. “Alright then, there’s no special privileges for you.” I teased her and turned back to the teacher. “Now, I have to agree. My daughter reads more than anything… there’s no way that her reading is horrible. Hell, she probably reads better than me.”

She crossed her arms. “Well I was going to suggest a tutor. I’m free at least three evenings a week and I wouldn’t mind helping my student.”

Sia growled behind my hand, and her hell no was unmistakable even through my hand. And I had to agree with her. It wasn’t ideal for a teacher to single out one student for extra help. Then with her fuck me eyes, and some of the things that Siarra accused it didn’t seem like a good idea. “I’ll hire a tutor. Thanks for the offer though.”

I turned towards Addie who was sitting there silently watching. To my surprise she looked like she was barely containing a laugh. The little shit was enjoying seeing Siarra ready to kick her teachers’ ass. “Addie, let’s go.”

She scooped up her bag and began walking towards the door. I released Sia and started behind Addie totally done with this whole shit storm when, “And another thing…” rang through the air.

I turned around to see Sia back to squaring off, ready to finish arguing her case. I scrubbed a hand down my face and walked back. Without a word I bent down – way down – and scooped her up tossing her over my shoulder. She began to fight and struggle with me and I slapped her hard on the ass. “Calm the fuck down woman and stop acting like I’m kidnapping you. I’m getting you the fuck outta here before you do something and end up getting my kid kicked out of school.”

She huffed. “Nobody is going to kick anybody out of anything.” She huffed again and I’m pretty certain that she crossed her arms. She’s probably wearing that adorable little pout.

I didn’t set her down until I was standing by the driver’s door of her car. As I suspected, she was pouting, arms crossed and glaring. That was fine by me. “I was handling things in there.” She finally said as I waited her out. She punctuated the statement with a stomp of her foot.

“Uh huh.” I answered absently. My gaze fixated on her suspenders. Upon closer inspection it looks like there were math equations on them.

She pushed my shoulder and I looked at her face. “HEY! Are you even listening to me?”

Honestly, I didn’t know she was even talking. “No. I was trying to figure out your math problems.” I said putting a finger underneath one of her suspender straps and snapping it.

“Hey!” she screeched. “Leave my suspenders,” her nose scrunched up and she used the tip of her finger to push those damn glasses back up her nose.

I sighed. “Go ahead home; I’ll be about thirty minutes behind you. I need to make a stop.”

She rolled her eyes and got into the car where Addie had already strapped herself up in the backseat. I didn’t wait for her; instead I went to my bike and rode off.
