The Twelve Mates Of Christmas: The Complete Collection by Sable Sylvan (151)

Questions about Miss Claws

Q: Why did it take Pandora and Jack so long to finally date?

A: Pandora and Jack would only spend all of December together, because, during the rest of the year, Jack was at The South Pole, doing Ice Elemental Things. That means they were only ‘together’ for eleven full months total (the events of Dasher Claws, Dancer Claws, Prancer Claws, Vixen Claws, Comet Claws, Cupid Claws, Donner Claws, Blitzen Claws, Demon Claws, Daddy Claws, and Frosty Claws) before the events of Miss Claws.

They emailed and wrote to each other during the other eleven months of the year. They both kept journals. Jack gave Pandora a journal every year as a gift, a big, thick one, that would last the whole year. Because Jack gave Pandora her journals at the start of December, the journals started in December, rather than in January!

Eventually, they did read each other’s journals.

As you can tell from Pandora’s journal entries, she had a lot of reasons not to reveal her feelings to Jack…or at least, she thought she had a lot of good reasons. Both Pandora and Jack assumed a lot of things:

  1. That their fathers would be against them dating, because, like many, Pandora and Jack thought Santana and Boreas were enemies, rather than realizing that they were just two guys trying to do their jobs (Santana doing deliveries, Boreas maintaining the weather system)
  2. They assumed the other only ever saw them as a friend, and acted accordingly in real life, perpetuating the cycle
  3. They expected the other would be the one to admit their feelings, which is why it’s ironic that, during the flight from The South Pole to The North Pole, they both reveal their feelings at about the same time
  4. That magical beings weren’t meant to have fated mates because their fathers didn’t have fated mates. This is why Jack is The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come in Daddy Claws. He’s a representation of a future male magical being who could be inspired by Santana (and later, Boreas) and finally admit his feelings to Pandora

Pandora and Jack are eighteen in Dasher Claws and twenty-nine or thirty in Miss Claws, so they’ve done a lot of growing up — together — and a lot of maturing. They’ve seen a lot of romances happen — eleven big ones, in fact, and often, they played a hand in helping the couple get together!

Q: What’s the deal with all the journal entries?

A: They’re samples of the journal that Pandora kept over the years. Some of the journal entries show the events of previous books from Pandora’s perspective. For example, the entry from 2016 shows her side of her conversation with Befana and the dance she had with Jack.

Q: Is the jólabókaflóð a real thing?

A: Yes! Look up ‘Yule book flood’ for more information. This is not a Sable Sylvan invention in the least.

Q: Was Pandora’s book series The Twelve Mates of Christmas the same series as the Sable Sylvan The Twelve Mates of Christmas?

A: Yes! So you better make sure your friends and family read these books…!

Q: Pandora has to come up with an ending for her twelve-book series, The Twelve Mates of Christmas. What is that ending?

A: That ending is the actual ending of The Twelve Mates of Christmas — a wedding between her and Jack Frost, surrounded by their friends and family. Because her friends and family read the end of the books, they knew how she wanted her story to ‘end.’

Q: Why does Pandora visit a list of specific places during The Ride?

A: Those places are all places I featured in past books, often with characters from previous books. People have asked to hear about what happens after the epilogues of my books, so I thought this was a good way to show the readers how things worked out.

Q: Did the jólabókaflóð work and how?

A: The jólabókaflóð did work. People read the books and started to believe in the different kinds of magic featured in the books — Christmas magic, fire magic, demoncraft, and yes, ice magic. That’s what saved the ice elementals and ice magic. By saving ice magic, Pandora stopped Jack from melting, because ice magic was what powered him and kept him from melting.

Q: What would’ve happened if Pandora didn’t save ice magic?

A: Either Jack would’ve melted away into nothing, or, he would’ve been frozen for a thousand years. Who knows what things would’ve been like when he woke up?

Q: If Boreas knew ice magic was getting weak, why didn’t he tell anyone?

A: Hubris.

Q: If this is Pandora’s book, who hung the mistletoe?

A: The mistletoe in the car was hung by Befana.

The ice mistletoe was made by Jack.

The giant mistletoe from the wedding was made by Christmas elves out of real mistletoe and then hung magically by Krampus or Santana or Befana, or all three combined.
