Interview with the author
Q: What is your favorite book in the series?
A: You know how mothers aren’t supposed to have a favorite child?
Similarly, authors aren’t supposed to have a favorite book — or so I’ve heard.
Well, I’d be a bad mother, because I absolutely have a favorite child — err, book. Guess that makes me a bad author!
My favorite book in the series is Demon Claws.
I like the book because we follow Krampus and Avery for eight books and there’s a lot of payoff. They are opposites that are not only attracted, but that complement each other. They’ve also got a lot of similarities. They both have strong personalities and like to matchmake.
Q: What character are you most like in the books?
A: I think I’m a lot like Avery. We both like baking, private offices, putting people to work, matchmaking, and getting Christmas stuff done neatly — and we go big, if you couldn’t tell from the fact that I’ve released twelve whole frikkin’ novellas in this series in a single month (and wrote them in under a year)!
I think my boyfriend is like Krampus because they’re both sassy, like Nietzsche, and are pretty mischievous!
However, our romance is not like theirs, because we got together very quickly after meeting, and definitely did not take as long as Krampus and Avery took to go on their first frikkin’ date! Maybe they’re alternate universe versions of us?
Q: What’s your favorite Christmas beverage?
A: I love homemade apple cider! Warning: if you have it at my house, you better love spices! What am I saying? You read The Twelve Mates of Christmas — of course you can handle the spice!
Q: What’s your favorite Christmas food?
A: I really like roasted chestnuts! I grew up on a chestnut farm, and we sometimes made roasted chestnuts. There’s nothing like farm-fresh (can nuts be fresh?) chestnuts, roasted over an open fire in your backyard. De-lish!
Q: What’s your favorite Christmas candy?
A: I love ribbon candy! It’s almost too beautiful to eat. That’s what I always think before I eat it.
Q: What’s your favorite Christmas cookie?
A: Sugar cookies with the big chunks of sugar sprinkles on top. I like the ones shaped like Christmas trees, because I can pretend I’m a beaver, eating a whole tree.
Q: What’s your favorite Christmas tradition?
A: Watching Christmas movies while eating candy. This year, I started doing that a few days before Halloween.
Q: Is Christmas your favorite holiday?
A: No. My favorite holiday is the day after Valentine’s Day when all the candy is on sale.
Q: Do you celebrate Christmas?
A: Kind of. I do a gift exchange with a few close people. I don’t get a tree. I don’t do a ton of Christmas activities.
Q: If you aren’t super into Christmas, why did you write a Christmas series?
A: To get off of The Naughty List, of course!
Real talk, a lot of readers have requested that I do a Christmas series for a while, and there are all kinds of books I write that I don’t have anything to do with. For example, I’ve never worked at a strip club. I’ve never even been to one (and I don’t say this as a point of pride), but, I still have the Bear Buns books. I’ve never run a hot sauce company or a matchmaking service, yet The Feminine Mesquite and Fated Mate Speed Date still exist.
