Tempting Perfection (Timeless Love Novel) by Kristin Mayer (13)

Chapter Eighteen

Sawyer

I lay splayed on Kurt’s chest, basking in the feeling of being in his arms again. Last night seemed like a dream. And true to his word, he hadn’t let go of me all night. In the light of day, there was something I wondered about. “Can I ask you a question?”

The muscles in Kurt’s chest tightened. Cautiously, he said, “Sure.”

Raising my head, I asked, “Why are you tense?”

“I don’t know. I guess I’m waiting for the other shoe to drop. You’re not the only one who’s afraid this is a dream.”

It was weird seeing the normally self-assured man I’d grown to care for afraid my feelings for him might not be real. I had so many questions.

“Can I ask why?” I sat up, pulling the sheet around me.

Kurt’s eyes dipped to my chest. “I like seeing your tits uncovered.”

“I’m sure you do. And maybe I’ll reward you after we talk.”

Shifting, Kurt popped his knuckles. “About why I don’t want to ever get married?”

“For starters.”

For a second, Kurt stared at the ceiling. Since I knew this was difficult for him, I waited for him to continue. “My dad took off when I was young. It nearly killed my mom. I found her trying to commit suicide multiple times. She thought her life wasn’t worth living without my fuckwad of a father.”

Wow. I had no idea. Hearing this shredded my heart, but I fought to keep the sympathy out of my eyes. That would only shut Kurt down. Knoah had never mentioned anything, and I wondered if she knew how bad it had been. “So, is your sperm donor still alive?”

“Yes. He reaches out every year on my birthday to try to make amends.”

I cringed; it was coming up again soon. Kurt’s birthday was in the beginning of April. Things were slowly making sense. “So, because your parents’ marriage fell apart and it affected your mom, you won’t ever marry?”

I saw the fear in Kurt’s eyes, so I was quick to clarify. “I’m not pushing. Hell, we’ve been together for like twelve hours. Marriage is for sure not on my list this morning. But if we’re going to give ourselves the best chance possible, I would like to understand. If it’s too soon, just tell me. I think it’ll be easier to navigate our relationship if we understand what we want and can find a middle ground.”

Kurt remained silent.

“For instance, I want to be in a committed relationship. But I don’t want kids.”

A little of the tension eased from Kurt’s face. “You don’t?”

“No, I don’t. No desire.”

He let out a tense breath. “Me, either.” Things eased between us considerably. “I’m an exact replica of the bastard. Our mannerisms, the way we talk, look, everything.”

“And you would never want to do what your sperm donor did to your mom.”

“Yes. Until you, I never even wanted a relationship.”

I smiled. “Well, then that makes you different in some way. You’re breaking the cycle by not getting married.”

From the way he watched me, I could tell my words shocked Kurt. Serious time was over—he could process my words at his own speed. I dropped the sheet. “So, I think it’s time you got your reward.”

“About fucking time.”

I giggled, and in a flash, Kurt was on me. His mouth latched on to my nipple while his hand trailed down my side. Oh, I could get used to waking up like this every morning. Even after all the sex last night, I still wanted more.

“Wakey! Wakey! I’m returning your dog child!”

Kurt groaned, dropping his forehead to mine. “Fucking Edge.”

I jutted out my lip. “You didn’t get your reward.”

At the door, our puppy whimpered. Kurt rolled off me and pulled on some jeans—sans boxers.

“Commando. I like it.” He finished buttoning his jeans. “I’ll get on some pajamas and meet you out there.”

“Sawyer…your ass and your tits are for my eyes only now. Don’t show them off in front of the guys, okay?” Oh man. I could see the fire in his eyes, and I liked it. And I got it. Some of my things might have been a bit inappropriate just to get a rise out of him.

I giggled. “Understood.” Lying on my back, I let my hands roam up my body to my nipples. “Ass and tits are for your eyes only.”

He took a deep breath and walked back over to the bed where he touched my clit with a feather-light stroke. My body arched at the touch, and my legs fell open. A finger dipped inside of me, and his mouth grazed my nipple. His teeth raked along the skin.

Yes.”

All too soon, he pulled back. “Now we can both be miserable until these assholes leave.”

I threw my head back and groaned. “You better make this up to me with multiple orgasms.”

“Promise.” Kurt walked to the door, still shirtless. I heard a bark. “George, you’re going to have to come with me until your mom is properly dressed.”

When the door closed, I covered my face, fighting the tension that was building up inside me. I definitely needed to get out there, get the guys gone, and have sex all day. I straightened the bed and picked up the clothes strewn on the floor. Kurt’s shoes were piled in the corner of the room. Quickly, I lined them up. Oh shit. My pajamas were in my bedroom, and I doubted streaking down the hall was the best idea.

I opened Kurt’s drawers and groaned. His clothes were haphazardly thrown in there. If he wanted me to stay the night back here, I would need to organize. The sight of his mess in the light of day nearly gave me hives. But for now, boxers and a T-shirt would have to do. They were a little big. I rolled over the boxers a few times to keep them from falling down.

In the hallway, George ran up to me. “Oh, I missed you, buddy.”

In front of Edge, Kurt gave me a kiss before whispering, “I think this may be worse than Victoria.”

Kurt likes me in his stuff.

“My clothes are in my room. I thought this was a better option than being naked.” I gave a sassy grin and then turned to Edge. “How did you end up with George last night?”

Edge looked tired. “I couldn’t sleep and saw Frank walking him earlier today. Figured I’d let you two lovebirds sleep in a bit. Then he fuckin’ pissed on my clothes.”

Suppressing a smile, I said, “Thanks for watching him. He only does that to people he likes.”

Behind Edge, the door opened, and Harlem and Sykes came in. Kurt looked agitated. I was agitated. My orgasm needed to happen sooner rather than later.

Kurt asked, “What is this? Social hour?”

Harlem looked from Kurt to me and then back to Kurt before grinning. “About fuckin’ time. We got the local papers. Seems like you made the gossip columns.”

“Shit. How bad?” The tension returned to Kurt as he waited for an answer. Gossip columns could be brutal at times.

Harlem tossed the papers to Kurt, who laid them out on the table. I was shocked at how big the pictures of us were. The most prominent one focused on Kurt kissing me intimately in the middle of the club. The sexual tension was tangible. He looked at me, waiting for my response. Being in the spotlight was not something I was used to or necessarily wanted. But this was part of his life.

“At least it’s a good picture.”

Kurt smiled. “It is.”

I snuggled George, who was getting heavy, and leaned closer to the pictures. “What do they say?”

“They want to know who you are and what you mean to me.”

Kurt looked at me, and I smiled. Pulling out his phone, he took a deep breath. Then he dialed. “Sandy, I want you to issue a statement. I’m in a committed relationship with Sawyer Wade.” He paused and listened. “Yes, I’m fine with you mentioning she’s my PA.” Kurt looked at me for confirmation, and I nodded. “Yes, within the hour.”

“Okay, so the dog child has been returned. I’ve seen the papers. I think that’s everything.”

Sykes pulled out a folded sheet of paper from his pocket. “According to our color-coded schedule for today, we’re supposed to meet regarding the promo this afternoon an hour before we take off.”

“Aww, you’re using my schedule.” The guys were adjusting to a schedule, and I loved it.

Kurt pointed to me. “This is your fault. And now, instead of doing what I want to do, I have to do this color-coded shit.”

The guys disguised laughs with coughs. I leaned up and kissed him. “I’m going to organize your room. Your reward will wait.”

“Thirty minutes. That’s it.”
