31 Days to Go

I am so glad that I don’t have to work today. After the past five days, I look forward to resting and spending some time doing what I need to do. I plan to spend the day ordering the rest of the gems for the tables. I have chosen little pink and black scattering gems to add just the right amount of sparkle to the crisp, white linen tablecloths at the reception. Earlier, I ordered a nice baby pink cloth runner to go down the middle of each table to contrast all the other accessories, which are bright pink. For the centrepiece on each adult table, I have bought glass bowls to fill with water and star-shaped candles. The children’s tables will display bowls with fairy lights rather than candles for safety reasons. I fell in love with these decorations within minutes of seeing them featured in other wedding pictures.

Tonight, I am making a lovely meal for my fiancé Rich and me. I wanted to plan an intimate candlelight dinner for us before the stresses of the wedding hit. I am cooking all of Rich’s favourite foods, steak with mushrooms, chips and onion rings, and cheesecake for dessert. I don’t really like cheesecake, so he can have the entire thing for himself. I have placed a couple of bottles of his favourite beer in the fridge for when he gets home from work. I don’t like beer, and he doesn’t like wine. Cooking makes me happy, but I can’t bake. That’s where Megan comes in useful. I love her homemade cookies. I might see if she can make some for me.  I send her a quick text.

Hi Megan, any chance the next time you bake that you can make me some cookies? Luv ya XX

Megan has gone away to London for a few days with her boyfriend Mark. She is due back early tomorrow morning or late tonight, depending on what they planned to do today. They have gone to attend the christening of the son of one of Mark’s closest friends. That was yesterday. It’s the first time Megan will have met any of his colleagues. She wanted to make a good impression, so I spent hours dress shopping with her before we found an amazing, red halter neck maxi dress with little butterflies all over it. Megan looked gorgeous in it when she tried it on. We picked out a tie in the same shade of red for Mark so they would look like a real couple. I can’t wait to see some pictures from the event. I was hoping she would have sent a few last night, but I bet she got busy.

She is due to meet Mark’s family on her next visit. I know she is worried they will not like her. Megan has such a great personality; I don’t understand why she thinks they will dislike her. I believe she is more afraid of his family not accepting Lucy, her daughter. She met Mark’s sister, Mia, a few weeks ago when she came here for a visit. Mia agrees with me that Mark has been really good for Megan. He has looked after her as much as he can. He makes her happy, but I can tell she is worried that he is going to leave her one day.  At that thought, my mobile signals an incoming text from her.

Hi Jenny, I will do some when I get back. Miss ya. XX

I can’t help but laugh. I knew she would do it for me. She is such a gem. I want to find the perfect thank you gift for her for the wedding. It needs to be something extraordinary like her, more than just the necklace all my other bridesmaids will receive. Megan is special and I want her to know what she really means to me. I really don’t think I could make it through some days without her.

I grab my laptop from under the coffee table and log onto the internet. I take my pen and little purple notepad that contains the amounts of everything I need for the wedding.  The other week Mia sent me a link for gem stones. I plan to order them from the website. They will arrive within twenty-four hours of placing the order, which means I can pack them into my box as soon as I receive them. Yes, I’m an organised freak regarding all wedding plans. I have several clear plastic boxes labelled and filled with everything needed for each venue. I think Megan might be rubbing off on me.

I order the gems and then go into my search engine and type “maid of honour thank you gifts”. Let’s see what ideas pop up. I can’t pick just one because there are so many different choices. I know she will not be expecting anything and will probably tell me off for wasting money on her. I settle on a gift box to place lots of different gifts inside. That will be special to her because she loves keepsakes.  I order a key charm and a personalised pink, circle pendant engraved with the wedding date and her name. It looks perfect. As I continue searching, I order a wine glass and a black photo frame with little pink butterflies adorning the corners.  Of course, all these items receive personalised touches. I’ll add her necklace to the box as well and I may even find more items before the wedding.

That’s all done, so now I just have to purchase the survival kits for my bridal party. The survival kit is a black cotton bag embellished with gems that spell out their title in the wedding. It will contain everything each girl might need before or after the ceremony, over twenty different items, including the necklace, tissues and boob tape. The kit will also come fully stocked with condoms to prevent any ‘accidents’ from occurring, even though I think it would be something special if a little baby were conceived on my wedding night.  I even impressed myself and made some little name tags to tie to each bag.

Lucy is a bridesmaid for me, too. I have ordered her a baby gown that reads “Lucy is the Best Little Bridesmaid Ever”. I can’t wait to see her in it. I know she will not wear her little bridesmaid dress all day. The dress is white with a little pink band around the middle that ties into bow at the back. She will look adorable in it.

I glance towards the clock. I need to begin preparing dinner before my loving hubby-to-be gets home. It will not take me long though, since most of it’s pre-made and just needs to cook, but I do need to make the cheesecake.
