Hide and Seek: A Rock Games Novel: Vol. 2 by Nicole S. Goodin (9)

“I swear to god, barbie girl, if you even try and feed me some bullshit line about this not happening again, I’m gonna be pissed...”

I’d been joking with the comment, I was so sure this was her way of giving in… but the way she froze sent chills through me.

I turned, ever so slowly, so I could see her face, hoping the entire time that I was reading her reaction wrong.

She shot me a sheepish look.

Oh hell no.

“Hannah, you can’t keep doing this to us,” I groaned as I scrubbed my hands over my face.

“Can’t we just admit that it was good and then go back to being friends? I really like what we’ve got going on and I don’t want to lose it,” she pleaded.

Good?” I plucked the word from her sentence and threw it back at her in outrage.

“Seriously?” she snapped, “that’s what you heard from all that?”

I shook my head; I was beyond exasperated with this.

“No, we damn well can’t, Hannah. I know that this isn’t ‘just sex’. I’ve had plenty of ‘just sex’ before and this isn’t that. It’s not even fuckin’ close.”

“How much is plenty?” She narrowed her eyes at me, her flaring jealously only enforcing the point I was trying to make.

“Seriously?” I repeated her own words back to her. “That’s what you heard from all that?”

I grabbed her and held her close.

I didn’t want to keep doing this, but I couldn’t lose her either.

She groaned in frustration. “Why is this so hard?” she whispered as she buried her face in my chest.

I pulled her in even tighter. “It’s not.” I ran my fingertips up and down the bare skin of her arm. “It just feels that way because you’re fighting a losing battle.”

“What’s that meant to mean?” she demanded.

“You know what it means, Hannah, you know where this is going.”

“It’s not going anywhere.” She pulled herself from my arms and sat up on the bed.

“You’re scared.”

“I am not scared.” She got to her feet and sat her hands on her hips dramatically.

She was exuding a pissed off energy that almost had me fooled… if it weren’t for the fear in her eyes.

This was her fight or flight moment, and I could tell that she was hell bent on choosing the latter.

I can’t lose her.

If she ran now, I was going to have a hell of a time getting her back.

There was only one thing for it.

I sighed. “I want you, Hannah, in any way I can get you, okay?” I reached for her hand and she let me take it. “If that means we just hang out, or we’re friends with benefits, or we’re together… I don’t care… I’ll take anything I can get when it comes to you.”

She breathed a sigh of relief, and I tugged on her hand until she was back on the bed next to me.

“Thank you,” she whispered. “I’m just not in a good place for a relationship right now…”

This wasn’t what I wanted. I didn’t want to have sex with her and not get to call her mine, but right now…this was all I could get.

We were spending more time with each other than anyone else, neither of us were seeing other people, and we were having the most mind-blowing sex I’d ever experienced.

It wasn’t entirely a bad deal.

For now.

“Just promise me that you’ll talk to me, okay? If you’re freaking out, you have to talk to me.”

She looked into my eyes for a moment, revealing the vulnerability there.

I kissed her forehead. “Okay?” I asked again.

She reached over and snagged the bag of lollies off the end of the bed. “Fine… now have some sugar and shut your trap.”

“Oh, baby, I’m already sweet enough,” I quipped, happy to fall back into our usual light banter.

“Oh you didn’t...” She laughed at me. “That might be your worst one yet.”

I shrugged and snatched the lollipop I knew she’d been saving out of the bag in her hands.

“Jasper, that’s not funny.” She gave me a death glare as I unwrapped it from its packet.

I watched her as I brought it up slowly to my mouth.

“Jasper…” she warned. “Don’t do it.”

I shoved it in my mouth at the same moment that I dodged the hands that came flying towards my face.

“You’re a dead man!” she shrieked.

I fended off her arms and legs as they came for me. “But I’m a dead man with a lollipop.” I chuckled.

“Ugh!!” she screamed as she threw her entire body in my direction.

I caught her and rolled her over so she was pinned under my weight.

“Mmmm this is a good lollipop.”

She thumped her fists against my chest.

“What’s the matter, BG?”

She didn’t reply, just grunted and groaned until she had an arm free enough to reach my face.

I had to give it to her, the girl knew how to persevere.

She got hold of the stick and pulled.

I couldn’t help but laugh at the look of utter determination on her face.

I bit half of it off as she tugged it from my mouth, putting the final nail in my coffin.

I crunched it up between my teeth as I grinned at her.

“I hate you.”

“It’s not all bad, baby, you still have half, and if it makes you feel better I’ll let you suck on my lollipop.”

“You put that thing anywhere near my mouth right now and I really can’t guarantee it’ll be coming back in one piece,” she hissed without missing a beat.

I burst into laughter.

I rolled off her and watched her pouting at her half-chewed treat.

“Oh god,” I wiped the tears from my eyes, “you really are crazy.”

“You’d do well to remember that, Lollipop.” She popped it into her mouth, looking every inch the sex kitten as she did it.

“What are you going to do about it, huh?”

She pushed herself up and swung her leg over so she was straddling me.

She seductively pulled the lollipop through her lips.

I could feel myself getting hard again, she was so damn sexy.

“You’re going to pay for this.”

I skimmed my hands up and down her bare sides.

Her eyes were fixed on mine and I could see nothing but desire in them.

I thrust up only a little with my hips, letting her know the reaction she was invoking in me.

She let out what I was learning was her signature breathy moan and pushed back against me.

“I think I’m ready to pay now.”
