Mountain Man's Bride by Lauren Wood (52)

Chapter 14

Sherry

We rode back to his apartment in silence, but the trip wasn’t that long, so it wasn’t that torturous. I wanted to talk to Rex and ask him some questions, but he started getting weird when he saw me and now he was too focused on the road to do much else but drive. That was the impression that he was giving off anyways.

“Sorry Rex, I didn’t mean to trouble you. I just wanted to know.”

“You know what they say about curiosity Sherry. You really shouldn’t have come.”

“Why are you guys trying to hide it?”

“We don’t, just from you and his parents. You are the ones that he worries about. I don’t have anyone in my family that would care. Charlie doesn’t want our parents looking down on him. Compared to you, it is hard to live up to being a damn scientist. I don’t think they would be too proud to tell their friends at church what their son does. It is just better that none of you guys know. He made me promise that I would make sure it never got out. Now it is out and he is going to be pissed.”

“I told you that I am not going to say anything. It will be our little secret.”

“Can I trust you?”

I shook my head that he could and I sighed loudly. This was weird and I still wanted to ask more questions. I was just so curious how this all came to be. It seems like something that has a good story behind it.

“Yes you can trust me. I never ratted on you guys before. Even when you snuck in that one chick and she got drunk and puked all over the upstairs. I told mom and dad that it was my friend Cantress because she was sick. I can’t believe you would ask me that.”

“Well like you said, a lot has changed.”

“Not that much. I am still the same person that I have always been. I know that mom and dad wouldn’t get it, so I won’t say anything. Your secret is safe with me.”

He seemed to be a little relieved with my promise, but I had a feeling that it was because he remembered how much dirt I had on the two of them for many years. This wasn’t the first boneheaded thing that they had done. They had many schemes throughout the years and I had always kept m mouth shut, even when I shouldn’t have.

“Good, then I won’t worry about it. Did you find any bites for a job?”

It was then that I remembered the interview I was supposed to have in a few minutes. “Oh gosh. I totally forgot that I am supposed to be at the aquarium in ten minutes. Do you think you can take me real quick? I will get the job, but I have to show up. They were interested in the study my old professor was doing on sickened marine life.”

“Yeah, I guess. I will have to drive fast to get there on time.”

Rex was always a fast driver, so that was to be expected. I buckled my seatbelt and looked over at him. “Okay.”

He smiled at me in a way that made my heart flip flop and I wasn’t sure what to say to him. It was the same smile that I had treasured for a very long time and I loved that it was finally directed at me.

The interview went out without a hitch and I got the job. I had about a week to find somewhere to live in the city and I knew that was going to be hard, but I was excited to get to some real work. It was everything that I ever wanted and I was beaming as I got back out.

“You got it huh?”

I nodded my head and I told him that I felt like celebrating. “Do you want to go out for a drink and something to eat? I have left over money from this morning.”

He chuckled and ran a hand through his longish brown hair. “I really should be getting back. I was supposed to be in charge today.”

“Well it didn’t look like you had that much business on your mind. I mean you were banging some chick.”

“Stop saying that Sherry. It just isn’t right to hear that out of your mouth.”

“Fine, agree to dinner and I will stop saying it, even though it is true. You couldn’t have had that much to do.”

“I was clearing my head.”

I nodded again and tried not to giggle. I had to wonder what was on his mind so fiercely that caused him to fuck like that? When I had walked in, it was like he was trying to break the girl. She loved every minute of it, but with the size of cock that had appeared out of the redhead, it was a surprise that she had been able to stand afterwards.

“I think I need to clear my head as well. Never have tried that approach before though.”

He looked over at me and his dark eyes looked black to me all of a sudden. I shivered inside and wished that I hadn’t said that out loud. It was what I was thinking and what I would continue to think about. How could I think of anything else when I had witnessed such a sight? It was impossible. It was that simple.

Watching Rex go to town on the redhead was one of the hottest things I think I had ever witnessed. I was never going to be able to get that out of my head. It made me wish that I had something as hot with Dennis.
