Damaged Goods: A Single Dad & Nanny Romance by Rye Hart (40)

CHAPTER NINE - KAILEY

I laughed and leaned back in my chair, enjoying teasing the hell out of Logan. He was trying so hard to control himself and I was being straight evil, tempting him by walking around naked and talking about all things naughty. Truth be told, I was actually starting to feel more than just lust for this handsome, sexy cop sitting across the table from me. Who could blame me?

He was a widow, a momma’s boy who chased down the bad guys and protected the weak. What was there not to like? Not to mention he was one of the sexiest men I had ever been with and our sex had been out of this world. Just thinking about it made me wet and I had to remember I wasn’t wearing any panties. Nobody likes a mess on the kitchen chair.

I stood up from the table and leaned over, grabbing his plate. I shook my head and laughed. I could feel his eyes on me as I strutted across the room, swaying my hips more than usual to give him a show. I rinsed off the plates and bent over extra far to stick them in the dishwasher. I glanced back at him as he stared at my pussy, licking his lips and holding on to his massive erection. Every single part of me wanted to go over there, whip it out, and ride him in the kitchen chair, but I knew I needed to give him a little more time to wear down. Rejection was not on my list of things for the day and I wanted to keep it that way.

I pulled out the dishrag and sprayed the counter as he pulled his phone from his pocket, stroking his shaft through his sweatpants. Suddenly he sat up straight, “yes ma’am’-ing” whoever was on the phone.

He paced the room, listening intently. I waited for him to tell me what was going on. I was immediately nervous, glancing out the window in case the killer was outside. He hung up the phone and looked up at me, realizing I was still naked.

“That was the agent at the end of the driveway,” he said, grabbing my arm and walking me toward the stairs. “They just let another cop through that is coming with food replacements and other stuff for the house. Go. Get dressed.”

I jogged up the stairs and into my bedroom, closing the door behind me. I pulled out a pair of panties and a bra, glancing out the window as a cop car pulled up. A Latina female got out of the car, and Logan went out to meet her, smiling and helping her carry boxes and bags into the house. I pulled on my clothes and fixed my hair, making it look like I had been up for a while. I crossed the hall and brushed my teeth, spraying on some vanilla body spray before walking back downstairs. By the time I reached the bottom, Logan and the other officer were standing in the living room already talking about the case. They stopped their conversation and stared at me as I walked into the room.

“Hi,” I said sweetly, reaching out to shake the woman’s hand. “I’m Kailey.”

“Nice to meet you, Kailey, I’m Rebecca,” the officer replied with a strong grip on my hand.

She turned back to Logan and continued their conversation. I sat on the arm of the couch looking around the room, unsure of what to do with myself. I could feel the heat coming from my stomach and up my neck. I bit my lip as I looked up at Logan, thinking how hot it was that I almost got caught. Rebecca continued to blabber on about the precinct and some award ceremony. I smiled and caught Logan’s eyes as I pulled up my shirt and flashed him. His eyes widened, but darted right back to the officer.

“Uh, yeah,” he stuttered. “Those awards things are always a bore.”

He looked back at me as I shook with silent laughter, standing and perusing the movie shelf for the five hundredth time. I never had a guy in my life who I enjoyed messing with so much. The conversation between the two officers continued for another couple of minutes.

“Well,” Rebecca said, shaking Logan’s hand. “Be safe. I hope you guys can use the stuff I brought over. I’ll see you at the station, hopefully soon.”

“Yep,” Logan said as he watched Rebecca walk outside to her car. “And thanks again for the food!”

He stood in the doorway watching as she got comfortable in her car. I could hear the engine rev and the sound of tires rolling over the gravel as she drove down the driveway. He slowly closed the door and stood there for a minute, looking down at the floor. When he looked up, he no longer had that miserable but playful look on his face. In its place was an angry, determined expression I hadn’t seen before.

“You know I could get fired if anyone ever finds out,” he said angrily, moving to the living room entry way. “They would seriously bring me up on neglect charges and then fire me. I would lose my job, my pension, and before I know it, I would be chasing down shoplifters as the local mall cop. Not to mention, my negligence could get you killed!”

At first, I felt bad, but then a streak of anger flooded through me. He watched as my face changed from sheepish to livid very quickly. I threw the remote on the couch and stood up, clenching my fists and turning toward him.

“You know it takes two, asshole,” I shouted. “You wanted to fuck me just as much as I wanted you to, so don’t act like an innocent victim here.”

“Yeah, but the difference is,” he said, walking closer and pointing his finger at me. “I didn’t walk around with my dick flopped out, begging you to take it.”

“Oh, so now your lack of self-control is on me,” I said, throwing my hands in the air and laughing. “I am such an idiot. After this morning, I thought for a second that maybe we could actually be friends or something. Now I see I am nothing but a job to you, with the added benefit of a good fuck.”

I walked quickly past him, relieved that he didn’t stop me. I was so stupid. Playing my little games only led to me being the one who felt played. I stomped up the stairs and slammed my door, catching the small picture on the wall before it crashed to the ground. I took in a deep breath, feeling the sting of rejection in my chest. I hung the picture back where it was and walked over to the window, hearing the front door slam. Logan walked out in the yard, his face red and his hands clenched. He paced back and forth until finally, his muscles relaxed. His head turned upward toward my window and I jumped back, not wanting him to know I was watching. I stepped backward until my butt felt the bed behind me and I plopped down.

What was I thinking? I was so desperate to rid myself of my fears that I convinced myself Logan was some toy to play with. I knew at the beginning, when I was sitting on that couch, that I shouldn’t do it, but I gave in, feeling like I was free to do whatever I wanted just because I went through something traumatic. Then, after hearing his life story and sharing something really private about myself, I went and got my feelings hurt. I never did this. I never let men run my emotions; I saw firsthand what that could accomplish.

For the rest of the night, I stayed in my room, only going downstairs to grab food once I knew Logan was locked away in his room for the night. I shook my head as I sat in the dark eating a bowl of cereal. This day had started out fun and exciting, but it had changed so quickly. Suddenly I was left feeling like an idiot, and Logan was blaming me for his own bad decisions. At that moment, I couldn’t wait for this to be over. I wanted nothing more than to return to my old life and forget that any of this ever happened.
