Chapter 19

Kennedy

Now that Nico was back in my life again, I had a productive Sunday. I spent the day stocking up my kitchen with groceries again, I cleaned around the apartment and seemingly got my life back in order. I even went out for lunch with Ava in the afternoon.

She seemed delighted to see me.

“You have some color back in your cheeks again, Kenni!” she remarked as we ate. My appetite was back.

“I’ve been busy. I even got some work done early in the morning. I’ve been slacking in the office lately,” I told her. Ava smiled.

“I know I’ve been hard on you…regarding Nico. But if he’s shaping up and taking responsibility, then I don’t have any complaints. I just want you to be happy, honey,” Ava insisted. After Nico had left, I broke down and called Ava. I needed to fill her in on what was happening.

I nodded my head, smiling gleefully. I wasn’t expecting this either. I didn’t think that in a day my life would change so dramatically. Nico had really come through. I’d felt a connection with him the previous night. I’d seen in his eyes that he cared about me and not just because I was going to be the mother of his child.

“It’s not like I trust him completely,” I said to Ava, and she pursed her lips and looked at me sympathetically.

“And you shouldn’t, not yet,” she added.

“He’s disappeared on me, twice. He’ll have to do a lot more to win my trust in him, but for now, this will do,” I replied.

Ava sighed.

“Whatever his family is involved in…and you know I can’t discuss all that with you; Nico seems like a reasonable guy. From what you’ve told me, he really wants this baby. And with you. You’re lucky, not all women have it that way with a guy she barely knows,” she continued.

I knew she was right. I was feeling lucky indeed. Not only was Nico being sweet and thoughtful, he made me feel special. He was the guy who got away, but now I had him.

“I’m going to take it one day at a time,” I said and Ava nodded.

“He left last night and texted to say that we’ll see each other soon. I’m going to wait and see what he does next,” I added.

Ava got up from her chair and walked over to me. Within moments, we were hugging.

“What’s this for?” I asked her and she kissed my cheek.

“I’m just so happy for you! I’m going to be an auntie…you’re going to be a mommy. Everything is working out! We have to start thinking of names!” she was excited and giggling.

Since I found out about my pregnancy, now was when I was finally excited about it too. I didn’t know if I was ready yet, but slowly; I would get there.

A child was growing inside me.

When I returned to my apartment, to my surprise; I found Nico waiting for me outside my door.

“Nico!” I exclaimed, unable to hide the excitement from my voice as I rushed to him. I’d sensed that things had changed between us and I was hoping for the best. However, I wasn’t expecting to see him so soon.

He was casually dressed, freshly shaven and smelling great. He also had a bouquet of red roses in his hands and a bag full of groceries.

“Hello, Kennedy,” he said and when I got close to him, he leaned in to kiss me on my lips. For the first time, I was beginning to feel like we were actually a couple.

Blushing and smiling, I opened the door and we walked in.

“You didn’t have to…” I said, taking the flowers from him.

“Of course, I did. I wanted you to know I’ve been thinking about you all day,” Nico said, watching me as I placed the flowers in a vase.

“And what’s all that?” I asked, looking at the bag of groceries in his hand.

“Ingredients. For the dinner I’m going to cook for you. Although, be warned that you might not actually want to eat it,” he replied. We both laughed.

The air was light and cheerful between us. I was glad to see him and I knew he could tell.

“Here, let me take these to the kitchen,” I offered and I stepped forward to take the bag from him. Our hands brushed as we made the exchange and electric currents shot up my spine.

It was insane that he had this effect on me. Without even trying. My body was covered with goosebumps. Would there ever come a time when I had enough of him? It didn’t seem like it would. Nico was just full of surprises and each one of them left me breathless.

He followed me to the kitchen and I started unpacking the groceries on the counter.

“I hope I’m not intruding on your day. Sorry, I don’t know your schedule,” he said.

I turned to look at him and smiled.

“Nico, I want you here. You’re not intruding. I want you to be a part of our child’s life,” I told him.

He pushed his large hands into the pockets of his jeans and nodded his head.

“Kennedy, I know this is all very sudden, and I know I’ve acted like an asshole in the past,” he began. I shook my head and looked down at my feet. He didn’t need to apologize to me again. I’d forgiven him already.

“But I want you to know that I do feel connected with you. Even before you told me about the pregnancy. I missed you. I knew it was a mistake to start something casual with you. It could never have been casual between us,” he said.

I rushed towards him, leaving the groceries where they were.

“That’s how I feel too, Nico. It’s not just about the baby…I…I have feelings for you,” the words came gushing out of me. I didn’t plan on confessing this to him so soon. I couldn’t help myself now, he’d already shown me his cards.

Nico wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me to himself. I fell on his chest, looking up at him embarrassedly. His breath was hot as it fell on my face.

“You have no idea how happy I am to hear that,” he said before he kissed me.

I swung in his arms, shutting my eyes tightly so that I could feel every flutter of feeling in my body. Our lips merged and so did our bodies. Within moments of touching him, I could feel the wetness spreading between my legs. I wanted him.

I was breathless when Nico pulled himself away from me.

“I just have to have you all the time,” he growled, clutching my cheeks with both hands. I was nodding my head. That was how I felt about him too!

Nico smiled and I bit down on my lip.

“What about the cooking?” I asked and he grabbed my hand and tugged.

“It can wait,” he said.

He jerked me back to himself and kissed me again. With his body, he was gently pushing me backwards while he kissed me. My hands were all over him, pulling his shirt out of his jeans and fumbling with the zip.

He was kissing me like he was sucking on a delicious juicy fruit. My lips throbbed and so did my pussy between my legs.

Eventually, my hips grazed against the kitchen counter. He leaned me back as we kissed. His hands were traveling down my body, to the hem of my skirt. He tugged it down and my skirt fell to the floor.

“You’re going to be an amazing mother, Kennedy. I know it!” he exclaimed, kissing my throat and then nibbling at the neck of my blouse. I weaved my fingers in his hair, keeping him pinned to my breasts.

It was the most flattering thing he could have told me. Every worry was vanquished. Nico was happy about this baby.

He pulled up my blouse and threw it to the floor too. My breasts were in his hands. He cupped and squeezed them, while I thrusted my hips into him. I could feel his cock throbbing in his pants, I stroked myself against it. I needed to feel him inside me. I needed to feel possessed by his cock.

Nico pulled himself from me suddenly and then just as abruptly, he whipped me around. I could feel him pressed against my back while his hands explored my body. He was peeling my panties down my legs now. I was too hot, nearly sweating with desire.

How much longer was he going to keep me waiting?

“Nico! Please…” I whimpered and he kissed my shoulder softly.

“Whatever you want, my beautiful,” he whispered.

I could feel Nico taking off his jeans. The strength and roughness of his cock rubbed against my bare butt. I was clutching the kitchen counter tightly with both hands.

Nico lifted up my left leg slowly, placing my ankle on the counter now. My pussy was exposed to him and I thrust my butt out towards him. He grabbed both cheeks with his hands roughly.

I heard him grunt, just before his cock parted my folds and entered me.

I gasped from the thrust. His cock slid smoothly inside me and I cried out his name.

“Fuck, Kennedy! You are amazing!” he growled as he started pounding.

I felt the force of his cock inside me, sliding in and out. The tip stroked the deepest spot inside me. This angle was great. I could feel every inch of him, every little movement he made.

He was holding me tightly by my hips. He was using me to bury himself. In and out. His cock thrust into me and then slid out. He was pounding me like a machine.

I could barely keep standing. I knew I would come very quickly but I didn’t want it to end soon. It was an explosive feeling.

My nipples throbbed and ached while I leaned over the counter. I could feel the coldness of the top pressing into my chest. I had my eyes tightly shut and I moaned while he pounded me from behind.

Nico was muttering under his breath.

“So fucking tight”

“You are so beautiful”

He kept repeating the words and I knew he was on the edge too. Very soon, we were going to come together.

I didn’t have to move…I couldn’t move. Nico was doing all the work for us. His body was like a well-oiled machine. He knew how to thrust and pull, push and slip out with a quick motion. It was like he was never going to tire of doing this.

“Come for me!” I heard his command.

I squeezed my hand somehow between the counter and my legs and reached for my pussy. I could feel the fluid motion of his cock entering me now. I rubbed my swollen clit.

My juices were trickling down my thighs while he continued to thrust. I rubbed myself hard. If Nico wanted me to come, that’s what I was going to give him.

My fingers slipped in my juices while I stroked my throbbing clit. We were like animals. We couldn’t get enough of each other and didn’t care how much noise we were making.

Nico growled.

“Come for me!”

I exploded in my own hands and cried out, moaning. Nico quickened his force. I could hear the slap and squeaking of our bodies while he pounded his cock into me, making me sway and writhe.

My leg remained frozen on the counter top. He was clutching my butt hard and I knew he could see how violently I was coming.

My orgasm washed over me like waves, taking control of my entire body. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. All that mattered was how good this felt. How I didn’t want this moment to end. My toes curled in my shoes and I scratched my nails on the countertop as I came.

Nico didn’t stop thrusting. He was plowing into me with force and as soon as my first orgasm started to subside, I knew I was going to come again.

Nico didn’t show any signs of stopping either.

I had my cheek and breasts pressed down on the counter top. I felt him reach for my hair. He was winding my locks around a hand, so that he could position me the way he wanted to. He had me pinned to the counter and I loved it.

Within minutes, my second orgasm was building up.

“Nico, I’m going to come again,” I cried.

“Good girl,” I heard him growl and I released myself.

This time, he joined me.

I felt the jerk of his body as he erupted inside me. His pace became wilder and he was pounding into me without any control. I knew I was going to hurt after this was done. I’d never had sex like this before. Not even with Nico.

He came inside me. I could feel him filling me up with his cum. Our bodies were pressed together, moving together and releasing together too.

His grip on my hair loosened and as he reached the end of his orgasm, he finally released me.

I felt him stagger backwards, and his cock slipped out of me smoothly. There was a sudden emptiness inside me once his cock was gone from my body.

I whipped around to look at him and Nico wiped his mouth with the back of his hand.

“What the fuck have you done to me, Kennedy!” he grunted. He was glaring at me with heavy drooping eyelids. His shoulders were heaving.

I stared at him, nervous about what he was going to say next. I thought he wasn’t pleased. That I had pissed him off somehow.

But then he lunged at me, pulling me into his muscular strong arms again. Softly, he kissed the tip of my nose and then my lips.

“I’m not myself when I’m around you. It’s like I’m addicted to you or something,” he said and shook his head in disbelief.

I batted my eyelids with joy. He wasn’t pissed with me! He was just realizing how deep his feelings were.

Maybe he was falling in love with me too? Just like how I’d already fallen for him.

I threw my arms around his neck and he held me tightly. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d felt this happy.

“I’m starving. Are you?” he asked and I laughed.

“What are you going to cook me?” I said.

Nico shrugged his shoulders and released me from his arms.

“You’ll just have to wait and see. Maybe we’ll have to end up eating out,” he replied.

“I don’t know why you were worried. This is really good!” I exclaimed, as I tasted my first bite of the spaghetti and meatballs Nico had prepared.

We were sitting at my kitchen table, eating. Nico was wearing nothing but his jeans, while I’d put on a silk robe to cover my nakedness. Every time he looked at me, I blushed.

We’d spent the past hour in the kitchen together. I watched while Nico cooked. It was obvious that he wasn’t a regular cook but it seemed like he knew what he was doing.

“Thank you. It’s my mother’s recipe, passed down in our family for generations,” he informed me as he ate.

I was surprised to hear him admit it. This was the first time he was really talking about his family.

“Well, I’m sure she’ll be proud to hear you cooked her recipe tonight,” I told him.

Nico’s eyes darkened and he looked at his plate while he ate. There was a sudden silence between us and I was worried that I’d said something wrong. I didn’t want him to shut himself off to me again.

“My mother died when I was fifteen,” Nico revealed, in a low sullen voice.

“Oh, Nico…I’m so sorry to hear that. I didn’t know…” my voice trailed as my fork fell with a clank on the table. I wanted to reach out and stroke his hand but I wasn’t sure if he wanted me to.

“It’s okay. It was a long time ago and we don’t really talk about it,” he replied.

I knew I shouldn’t have asked him anything else, it was enough for the night. But curiosity got the better of me.

“Nico…I’m sorry for intruding, but I was wondering if it was really because of your granddad that you dropped out of high school?”

I was staring at him, searching his eyes for an answer. We’d had a lovely night till now. I was hoping that I wasn’t in the process of ruining the evening.

Nico breathed in deeply, like he was deciding whether to tell me the truth or not. Ava hadn’t told me much…she hadn’t exactly spelled it out for me but I could sense there was more to that story than what Nico told me.

He finally fixed his deep gray eyes on me and I gulped.

Did I want to hear what he was about to say?

“I’m sorry, Kennedy. I lied to you earlier. I couldn’t exactly be truthful because we didn’t know each other,” Nico replied.

I shook my head and smiled encouragingly at him.

“I understand. I’m not concerned about what you said earlier. I want to know the truth now,” I stated.

Nico dabbed the corners of his mouth with a paper napkin. It seemed like he was taking his time with it. This was a difficult conversation to have for him. I’d decided that whatever he was going to tell me, I would listen to it with an open mind. I trusted Nico now. I knew that he wouldn’t do or say anything to hurt me.

“The truth is that my granddad was sick and dying. But there wasn’t much any of us could have done to help him. He wasn’t the reason why I dropped out of high school,” Nico said.

I knew it wasn’t, and yet, it made my body stiffen to actually hear the words. I nodded my head. I was too afraid to ask him what the real reason was.

“I had to leave school because my father wanted to involve me in the family business. I’d always been involved in it, but he didn’t care much about an education. He needed me on the front lines. I’m his only son,” Nico explained.

I was staring at him with confused widened eyes.

“Front line? You make it sound like your business is some sort of war,” I laughed nervously, but Nico wasn’t even smiling. He was dead serious.

“It is. Something like that, anyway,” he replied.

My throat had gone dry. I couldn’t eat anymore.

My biggest fears regarding Nico were being revealed. I’d made a mistake. I shouldn’t have asked him anything. I didn’t want to know more.

“Okay, well, we don’t have to talk about it now,” I smiled weakly at him and rolled my fork in the spaghetti.

“Kennedy,” Nico said my name too sharply. I had no other choice but to look up at him.

“I need to get this out. You need to know everything before we move ahead,” he stated.

“No, I don’t, Nico. I’m happy right now. With you and with the baby. Everything about my life is good…I’m not going to ask you any more questions about your work,” I said.

My voice was sizzling. I was trying to convince him to stop talking, but Nico was on a roll.

“Kennedy, you need to know just how dangerous my line of work is. My family is…it’s…” he continued and I shook my head.

“Please, Nico, please just stop talking. Don’t ruin this for me!” I tried, but he wasn’t going to listen to me now.

“They’re not good people. My father is not a decent man. I don’t come from the same world as you. I’ve done a lot of things in my life that I’m not proud of,” Nico continued.

I stood up from my chair with a jerk and it fell back, crashing to the floor.

I swerved away from him, heading out to the living room. This couldn’t be happening. I wasn’t hearing this. The perfect little world I’d created for myself in my head was coming crashing down.

Nico followed me out to the living room, and he was trying to make a grab for me.

“Can we please just talk about something else?” I pleaded with him.

Nico caught me and pulled me to himself. He was forcing me to look up at him.

“I wished this wasn’t true either, Kennedy. But it is and you need to hear it. I’m not going to mislead you. I’m not going to make you do something you’re not prepared for,” Nico said. I could see he was trying to be calm but there was a sudden terror in his eyes.

“I’m prepared to be with you, Nico!” I squealed and he wrapped his arms tightly around me. He stroked my back, my hair…trying to calm me down.

“I know you are, Kennedy. I know you are,” he whispered.

I pulled myself away from him. There were tears brimming in my eyes. Was he trying to break up with me?

“I know. I know because Ava hinted at it. I can guess the kind of work your family is involved in,” I said.

Nico shook his head and closed his eyes. I stepped away from him and watched as he ran a hand through his hair.

“I don’t think you understand, Kennedy,” he murmured.

“Maybe I don’t! So, what? I’m not involved in your business. You don’t have to tell me anything about your work. Don’t you see that what we have here is perfect the way it is?” I cried.

Nico was staring at me with sullen eyes. It was almost like he was feeling sorry for me. I rushed towards him and took his hands in mine.

“This is fine. We are good…” I breathed hotly. Was I trying to convince him or myself?

Nico placed his hand lovingly on the back of my neck and drew my head towards his. He knocked our foreheads together.

“Right now, Kennedy, the best thing for us to do would be to leave town. You me and the baby. We could just disappear somewhere and start fresh,” he said, in a deep low voice. Like it was a secret.

I yanked myself away from him.

“Disappear? What are you talking about, Nico? I have my whole life here. I have a job and my friends and family. I can’t just up and go. And you don’t have to either!” I exclaimed.

Nico clenched his jaws and breathed in deeply. I rushed back towards him, throwing my arms around his neck.

“I know you’re worried about the baby. Ever since you found out about the pregnancy, you’ve been on edge. Nico, you don’t have to worry,” my voice had softened now and I kissed his chin tenderly.

He weaved his fingers in my hair and held me to himself.

“Kennedy…you don’t understand,” he tried but I shook my head.

“I do understand. You have complications at work, and sometimes that can be hard. But we are safe here, with you. We’re happy here and this is where our life is,” I told him.

I was searching his eyes keenly, until he had no choice but to nod his head.

I could finally breathe a sigh of relief. I wasn’t going to let anything break up the happy little life that we were building.
