A.J stood there in the pouring rain, looking at Rae, as he held his breath. He knew that there was a real chance that she would tell him to just go to hell, and she would be within her rights to. Still, he had to try. He just couldn’t leave things how they were, nor could he fight the feelings he had for her, any longer.

“I know you told me to stay the hell away from you,” A.J began, knowing that he needed to say something. “And I promise you I will leave and never come back, once I have said what I have come here to say. Please just give me a chance to explain.”

“You hurt me,” Rae said, making no effort to close the distance between them and the heartache on her face almost finished A.J there and then. “You were supposed to be my friend.”

“I know,” A.J said as he slowly made his way down the steps to where she was standing. Even though she was soaked to the bone, she had never looked more beautiful than she did right at that moment. “And I know you have every reason to hate me.”

“I don’t hate you,” Rae sighed as tears glistened in her eyes and A.J hated that he had hurt her so much. “I wish I did, but I don’t.”

“You don’t?” A.J replied as he stepped closer to her so that he was now barely inches from her.

“No,” she replied as tears trickle down her face, getting lost on her rain-soaked skin.

“Please don’t cry,” A.J whispered as he took her face in his hands. “I don’t want to break your heart. I don’t want to do anything that will cause you one second of pain. I just want to make you happy.”

“I can’t feel about you the way I do,” she breathed out as she closed her eyes and leaned into his hand. “I don’t know how to deal with these feelings. I’ve tried to ignore them, but they are there, constantly. You are there in my head, no matter how much I fight it. You are all I can think about and it’s tearing me apart.”

“Then stop fighting it,” A.J whispered as he softly pressed his lips to hers. “I’m crazy about you, Rae.”

“But this is wrong,” Rae cried softly against A.J’s mouth, but A.J could feel her resolve fade as the longing they both felt became too much.

“Then why does it feel so right?” He sighed before he claimed her mouth once more. This time he wrapped her in his arms and pulled her closer to him.

The kiss was everything A.J imagined it would be. Her lips were soft and welcoming, and her body felt so good against his. How could this feeling ever be wrong?

Rae pulled back abruptly and stared up at A.J. He held his breath, unsure of what was going through her mind at that exact moment. Was she going to tell him to go?

Suddenly, without saying a word, she reached for his hand, then walked up the front steps of her apartment building, and led him inside.

Neither of them said a word as they made their way up the stairs, but there was no need. The electricity between them was so strong, it made A.J’s whole body tremble with desire. When they reached Rae’s apartment, he stood by the door and watched Rae as she walked into the living room and slipped off her wet jacket.

She turned around to face A.J, and he could feel his heart hammering in his chest. He knew that she was just as nervous as he was, but that only made him want her more.

For a moment it felt like they were both frozen in time, but then it was like something jolted them both, and they closed the distance to each other instantly, as their bodies collided with such urgency.

As they kissed, A.J lifted Rae, and she instinctively wrapped her legs around his body before he turned and slammed her against the wall.

She slowly lifted her head and looked down into his eyes.

“But what does that mean?” She asked, and A.J knew she was worried.

“I don’t know,” he replied honestly. “All I know is, I have never felt for anyone the way I feel about you. Nothing else even comes close. You are what my heart wants.”

“I want you too,” she smiled as she leaned forward and softly kissed his lips. “And I love you so much; it scares me.”

“I don’t want you ever to be afraid,” A.J whispered as he held her against his chest. “Never again.”

Rae didn’t respond, but she didn’t need to. A.J could feel her relax in his arms, and he knew for the first time since he had met her, that she was happy and contented.

“We should get out of these wet clothes,” A.J finally said as a sudden shiver ran up his spine. Rae reluctantly let go of A.J and climbed from the floor.

“I will get some towels,” she said as she gave him a shy smile before she turned and disappeared down the hallway at the far side of the living room.

A.J smiled to himself, as he too climbed from the floor, feeling for the first time in weeks that he knew exactly what he wanted with his life now. He wanted Rae.

He began to remove his wet clothes and smiled to himself as he thought about what she had said. She loved him too. If he was honest, he already knew she did, but hearing her say the words sounded so much better than he imagined they would.

As he pulled off his jeans and boxer shorts, he turned and found Rae standing in the doorway wearing just a satin dressing gown. He froze for a moment. He had never been completely naked in front of a woman before, and he felt a little self-conscious.

“I um…I can put your clothes in the dryer,” she said as her eyes raked over his entire body. “I…have a…a robe…”

She suddenly froze, and her eyes stopped at his bare chest, and a look of dread settled on her face.

“Oh God!” she exclaimed as a wave of panic seemed to hit her. “I don’t know if I can do this.”

“Rae, what is it? What’s wrong?” A.J asked as he followed her gaze to his chest. That’s when he saw the silver chain and cross that was hanging around his neck.

“You’re a priest,” she said as if she realised this for the very first time. “You took a vow, but you have broken it, because of me.”

Tears danced in her eyes as she stared at A.J, and he knew she was freaking out.

“Rae, it’s okay,” he said as he quickly closed the distance between them, ignoring the fact he was completely naked. “I know what I have done, and it’s what I want. I may be a priest, but I am still a man.”

He lifted her hand and pressed it to his chest, above his thumping heart.

“See,” he said with a cautious smile. “My heart beats just like yours; and right now, it’s beating for you. I know things are complicated; and honestly, I don’t know what the future holds. But I don’t care as long as I have you.”

She looked up at him, but A.J still didn’t know what she was thinking.

“I do have you, don’t I?” He whispered as he pressed his head against hers. “You are the only thing I want.”

“Yes,” she finally replied, after what seemed like an eternity. “Of course. I just don’t want you ever to hate me.”

“I could never hate you, Rae,” A.J breathed against her lips.

Slowly A.J reached down and pulled opened the belt of her dressing gown.

“You are even more beautiful than I ever imagined,” he whispered as he pushed the robe from her shoulders and it billowed down to the floor.

He slowly leaned forward and pressed his lips to the bare skin on her shoulder and instantly his body reacted, and once more his arousal sprung to life.

“I want to spend the night with you,” he breathed against her neck. “I want to wake up with you, and know that whatever else tomorrow brings, I will have you by my side.”

Rae didn’t reply. Instead, she reached down and once again took hold of A.J’s hand, and this time she led him back down the hallway to her bedroom.

As they both stood in the darkness of her room, Rae reached up and softly touched A.J’s face. A.J instinctively leaned into her touch and gently pressed his lips to her hand.

As he looked down into her eyes, he reached up and took hold of his chain and cross, then lifted them slowly over his head.

“These are just things, Rae,” he assured her as he leaned over and dropped them on her bedside locker. “I know you’re worried, but they are not all I am. I need you to believe that.”

“I do,” she replied and gave him a smile.

A.J leaned down and pressed his lips to hers once more, but this time he pressed himself against her as he took her in his arms.

Once more he was overcome with longing for this girl who had blown apart everything he believed about himself. He needed to hold her, needed to touch her. He longed to feel that connection with her once more.

Slowly they began to move until they reached her bed. A.J lay her down carefully before he climbed above her and settled between her legs.

There was so much he wanted to do to her, so many experiences he wanted to share with her. True he wasn’t a virgin, but he was not very experienced either. He still had so much to learn, and he wanted Rae to be the one to teach him.

Once again he made love to her, but this time it felt different. The frustration and urgency they had both felt earlier, had been replaced by longing and desire to know each other’s bodies completely.

A.J had never experienced such pleasure in his life before. To feel so completely at one with another human being was possibly the most intoxicating feeling in the world.

“I love you,” he gasped as he held her so close to him. “I will love you every second, for the rest of my life.”

A.J held Rae in his arms, as she drifted off to sleep, and he felt happy. He knew his life was about to spin out of control and part of him was scared. But lying there in the darkness, listening to the woman he loved softly breathing as her head rested on his chest; he knew that no matter what happened in the future, he could never feel any happier than he did right at that moment.
