Chapter 47

Jenny

Man, I feel like crap. If it wasn’t for the game today, I'd stay in bed. I have had these awful waves of nausea for the past two days. It comes and goes with me occasionally running to the bathroom. I feel tired and achy, but I haven’t seen my man in several days. Plus, we are telling my brother and best friend tonight. I don’t want to wait any longer. No more hiding. No more secrets.

We both deserve this and we want to share it with the people we care about the most. My only hope is that I don’t throw up in the middle of telling them.

I decide to lie down for a few minutes before I have to pack for the weekend. My eyes can’t stay open anymore and I’ve been fighting the idea of a nap. However, my body wins as I crawl under my covers and let sleep take over. An hour nap never hurt anyone and maybe this will get rid of whatever it is that’s been making me feel like shit.

My body jumps up in panic as I hear my ringtone going off. I clearly was in a deep sleep. Glancing over at it, I see Sam’s face on the screen. Reaching for it, I notice that I slept way more than an hour.

“Hey, Sam. I know I’m super late.” I begin to run around the room grabbing clothes to throw in a bag.

“It’s ok. I just wanted to make sure you were all right. I was worried. Quite frankly, between your brother and Jack, I felt the urge to smack them both. They were getting me all wound up. I had to check in and let them know you are all good.”

“I’m sorry. I know how they both can be. Please tell them I’m fine and on my way. I’ll be leaving in about ten minutes and should make the second half of the game.” Hanging up, I look at the scattered clothes I threw on the bed. I’m more of a mess today than usual.

Shrugging my shoulders, I throw the clothes in my bag and head into my bathroom. Grabbing my toiletries, I also reach for my tampons. I’m a few days late but I shrug it off. However, I can’t stop the little voice that screams you are like clockwork.

The drive into the city goes smoothly. Thankfully, the traffic is light today. I stamp down my inner voice with reasoning. First of all, we’ve been using condoms. Secondly, there’s no way in hell I’m pregnant. It’s just a virus.

Pulling into the lot, I try not to let my crazy thoughts get the better of me. Besides, Jack said he was feeling sick, too. So there you have it - a bug.

I scan the crowd and see Sam waving to me. She is sitting in the stands with a blanket covering her legs. Mark Twain was right when he said the coldest winter he ever spent was a summer in San Francisco. One minute you are in shorts, and then the fog rolls in and you are bundling up.

I snuggle in next to her and get the facts about the game. Apparently, the guys are playing great and we are up by two tries. Jack scored one and got his shorts ripped in the process.

I look out at the pitch and see him running around. A laugh escapes as I watch his bare ass exposed for everyone to see. My laugh tames into a sly grin knowing that I get to do naughty things later with it. In fact, a little spanking might be called for tonight.

“What are you thinking about, Jenny girl? Your face is red and that smirk is wicked.” Sam bumps into my shoulder, trying to get me to spill, but I’m keeping this one quiet. At least for now I am.

“Oh, well, you know me. I’m enjoying the view of these hot and sexy male specimens running around. You know I appreciate the male form.” My eyebrows rise up and down several times trying to stress my words. Hopefully, that will satisfy her.

She looks at me skeptically but accepts my answer. We both turn our attention to the game and celebrate the win with a loud cheer. It’s so great to see her so happy with my brother. They are a perfect match in every way. I love them both so much and can’t wait to have her as my sister-in-law. Let’s hope Ben doesn’t make me wait too long.

The rugby after party drink up is loud and animated. There are many beers being passed around and songs being sung. The atmosphere after a game is always jovial. Enemies on the field are now friends. It’s the rule. No matter what, you share a drink and laugh with the other team.

Jack makes his way over to the table we are sitting at. My eyes are physically drawn to him and his ripped shorts. The ass hasn’t changed yet. I may have to slip my hand in that tear as he sits down. Sadly, that sexy image disappears all too quick when I see her approach.

I watch stunned as her hands graze his ass and hold it there, giving it a pat and a pinch. Jack laughs and makes some mischievous comments about his ass. I seethe and can’t listen to this. I tell him off because the last thing I want to do right now is declare my love for him to my family.

Seriously, what is he thinking? After everything I told him, and how he hurt me, why would he play into this? My stomach starts to turn and I can feel the vomit creeping up. I make my way out of the table fast, excusing myself while trying to hide my anger. The look on Sam’s face tells me I’m not being that successful.

I barely make it out the door as my stomach makes its anger known. I lean over the barrel and let it all come out. I can hear a few rude comments about me not being able to hold my liquor. Assholes.

I regain my composure and make my way to my car. There’s no way I will let myself cry right now. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a young mom watching her son play on the playground. She’s encouraging him to climb up the ladder to the slide while she bounces her baby in her arms.

I smile at the sweet sight. It’s truly the little things that make my heart happy. I welcome the pleasant distraction. My hand opens my car door in sync with the loud sharp scream of her once quiet infant. He or she sounds super pissed. The irony isn’t wasted on me as the screeching matches my reality and it hits me like a ton of bricks.

My body shakes as I look up to see Jack approaching me. I mentally go through the past week as quickly as I can. The stomach upset, the headaches, the tiredness, and my boobs hurting like hell. Then watching the little baby? No way. I cannot be pregnant.

Is the universe fucking with me now?

The throw up is coming again, but it’s timed perfectly. It lands right on Jack’s sneakers and he deserves it. To say he’s shocked is an understatement, but he quickly goes into care mode. All my pissy thoughts are vanishing with the reality that I may be pregnant. Now what the hell do I do?

“Jenny, baby, are you ok? You're sick. Let’s get you back to my house so I can take care of you.” I simply nod as he walks me around to the passenger side of my car. He buckles me in before getting behind the wheel. He takes my hand in his and places a soft kiss on it. “Is there anything I can get you, baby?”

I nod slightly before speaking. My voice is hoarse from the irritation of being sick. I can feel the shock settling down and as calmly and surly as I can, I state what I need. “Jack, I could use some ginger ale, saltines, and a pregnancy test.”
