Chapter 19

Jenny

Later or more specifically ‘damn right later.’ He’s such an egomaniac and I love it. It makes me think that he uses that cockiness in the bedroom. The thought of being in a bed with him makes my body tingle with excitement. I’m at the point where I really need to get my head on straight because all I seem to do is think of Jack and sex.

It’s not a bad thing to have on your mind, but when other things need my attention, it becomes a huge distraction. It’s kind of like when I get lost in one of my stories. You get so wrapped up in what’s going to happen to the couple next that you can’t put the book down. Or you’re in the middle of a very hot and heavy sex scene and there’s no way in hell you’re turning off the light and going to bed.

Jack’s having that effect on me. My mind is all cloudy and hazy. Normally, I would welcome the disruption but I really do have to get some work done. Plus, Sam is arriving today and I want to get everything ready. Pushing Ben and Sam together should really be priority number one. Getting laid is number two. Yep. Putting myself on the back-burner again, it’s what I do.

I walk into the barn and head to the storage room. It’s time to take stock and check in with the local distributers. Supply is going up and with Ben wanting to expand the business, I need to look at our inventory and how much we can develop and produce. Sitting down at my desk, I try to rid the fuzziness plaguing my brain. I rub my temples and pinch the bridge of my nose. “Great. I haven’t even started work yet and my ADD has kicked in.”

I turn on the desk lamp and stare at the pile of invoices on my desk. I begin to sort them out, but I can’t stop my mind from going to that kiss. It was unlike any kiss I’ve ever experienced. Jack was right in not rushing it. He wanted it perfect and it truly was. My lips tingle when I remember him lightly biting them. My fingers touch them with the memory of his tongue licking them. His kiss was just like in the books I read.

It started slow and teasing then quickly moved to fevered and panting. It was incredible. The fact that he took the time to make it perfect can only mean he will be even more spectacular when we kick things up a notch. That’s all it takes for my thoughts to drift into naughty mode again. I really can’t help it. The idea of being with Jack after years of fantasizing has me dazed and starry eyed.

My heart rate increases and my stomach begins to ache. What was once a pleasurable reaction has soured. My anxious nerves kick in with the realization that something is really happening with us. No more pretend and I’m scared as hell.

For years I dreamed of him seeing me as more, but it never seemed to happen. I was always Ben’s little sister who followed him around and embarrassed myself with my silly attention seeking. I would do anything to get him to notice me. Usually, making a fool of myself to try and keep up with the boys.

Not anymore. It’s a strange and overwhelming feeling knowing that the person you have loved your whole life finally wants to be with you, too. I have Jack’s full attention and it feels crazy, but it’s the best kind of crazy. The kind you know you’re going to completely lose control of yourself, yet you welcome it. Want it. Desire it. Because for once in your life you want to let someone else take it.

Yes, Jack can take and have all of my crazy. It’s time to let everything go and embrace it all. Be each other’s crazy.

I feel like a giddy schoolgirl whose crush noticed her at last. He was my first love and I don’t think I’ve outgrown it. From that first moment I saw him in the backyard swinging from the tire swing, I just knew.

I was only seven, but when I saw his face and smile, it was like I received a brand new present. He was all sparkly, shiny, untouched and ready to be used. Jack is my present that I want to unwrap and enjoy. Spend hours playing and discovering each other.

A loud knock on the door startles me from my haze. “Come in!” I yell. Looking up, I see Ben walking in looking nervous. “Hey, Benny, you look stressed. What’s up?” He paces back and forth several times and rubs his hands through his hair. My eyes watch him curiously to try and figure out what’s going on with him. I have a feeling it’s about Sam but I can’t be positive. Either way I’m intrigued; Benny isn’t usually like this. In fact, he’s been so solemn for the past two years that, in a weird way, it’s nice to see him so reactive.

Getting up from my chair, I step in front of him to try and disrupt his thoughts. He comes to a full stop right before he slams into me. “Oh, shit. Sorry, Jenny. I didn’t see you there.”

“Clearly. What’s on your mind? And don’t tell me nothing because you almost ran me over.” Reaching up, I grab onto his hands and pull them off his head. His eyes look panicked and suddenly I feel worried that something bad has happened. “Benny, what is it? Is it Gramps? Tell me what’s got you so freaked out.”

Ben steps away from me and begins his route again. “Gramps is fine. I’m just a bit nervous about today.”

“Nervous? Why?” My hands lift up as I shrug my shoulders. Letting out a light chuckle, he whips around to face me.

“Cut the shit, Jenny. You know why.” Ben walks back to me with his hands in his pockets. His anxiousness appears to have turned into annoyance. His body is standoffish and clearly not amused by my teasing tone.

Placing my finger on my lips and tapping it, I push a little more and feign ignorance. “No, I don’t know why. Is there something big on your mind?” I pause for effect before continuing, “Please tell me why. Oh, wait a minute. You’re picking Sam up today.” His body goes rigid and I know I have hit the nail on the head, so to speak. “That’s it. You’re picking up Sam today and you’re freaking out.”

Ben’s hands fly out of his pockets and he crosses them over his chest. The look on his face is priceless. It’s a combination of irritation and anger, and I love how much emotion he’s exhibiting. He’s been so closed off and distant, drowning in his pain. The fact that he’s feeling again just proves my point. He and Sam make a perfect match. “Yes, I’m picking up Sam today. You already know that.” His look is smug and I love it.

“Don’t worry about it. You’ll be fine. Sam’s awesome.” My eyes notice his face soften a bit. Clearly, he needs some comfort. “Look, I know it’s been a while since you’ve spent time with a girl, but Sam is one of a kind. She’s one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.” Ben’s arms uncross and he appears to be less stiff. “She’s been through a lot and all she really needs is a friend. So be that for her.” My hand touches his cheek and stays there. I look straight into his eyes to make my point. “Be her friend, Ben. The rest is easy. “

He seems pleased with my answer and offers a faint smile. “Thanks, Jenny. I owe you one.”

“Ahhhh, let's try that again. I think you owe me several.”

Ben pulls me in for a hug. “Put it on my tab.” I laugh as he walks toward the door. “Hey, is there anything that could help me with conversation? In case well, you know, we have nothing to talk about?” I’m walking toward my desk but his question gives me pause. My laughter overtakes me because if there is one thing I know for certain. Sam does not have any issue with talking.

“What’s so funny?” I really am trying to stop my giggling because I can see that he’s getting nervous again. Taking in a gulp of air, I try to steady my amusement.

“I’m sorry. I don’t want to worry you, not at all. It’s just funny because you have nothing to worry about. Sam is a talker and she’s an open book. In fact, there are times she says way too much.” I reach one hand up to blow him a kiss goodbye. “You and Sam will get along just fine. Trust me. Now get out of here before you’re late.” He gives me a quick wave before heading out the door.

“Oh boy. He’s in so much trouble with her.” My words fill up the empty space as I sit back down and attempt to work.

“Who’s in trouble? Is it me? I hope so because I like being punished.” My head whips up to find Jack entering the office. He looks even better than earlier, if that’s even possible. My body can only stare and respond without words. He must sense my desire for he gives me a head nod and that cocky boyish grin. “Come on, Jenny Bean, aren’t you going to tell me?”

Licking my lips and swallowing hard, I clear my throat as I anticipate what naughty words are going to come out of his mouth. “Tell you what?”

Jack cocks his head to the side before speaking. “Am I in trouble again? ‘Cause if I am, I don’t mind you putting me in time out.” His grin is devilish as he throws in a wink. He knows that’s all he has to do to make me smile.

“You are a bad boy, Jack Ryan.” He continues his slow path over to me and stops within a few feet of my body. It’s amazing, the pull I feel toward him. My heels dig into the floor in hopes of establishing some self-control.

“Me? A bad boy? Awwww, come on, Jenny. I only like being bad for you.” His finger reaches out and traces a line down the bridge of my nose and over my lips. He continues the line down past my chin and neck. He stops at my chest and holds his finger there. He doesn’t say a word. His finger just sits there, torturing me. I want it to continue its descent but he holds it steady. I decide that two can play this game. After all, this is what we do and we are so damn good at it.

My hand reaches up and takes hold of his finger. Slowly, I bring it up to my mouth and kiss the tip of it. My tongue pokes out to give it a wet lick before I open up and suck on it. As I take it out, I let my teeth graze over it and take a small nibble.

“Then be bad, Jack.” That’s all I have to say because I know he will be.
